Is Axel going to Jimmy Van M? I'll go pimp it w/ Axel in his MR2 if he goes.

Hmmm......nice thread. Shame I missed this one when it started several months ago. I'm a huge house/techno lover and have been hitting clubs for the last 5 years.

For me I've noticed a steady decline in new/fresh vibe in the house and techno scene. Could this be me getting older and becoming nostalgic about the past? Possibly, but I'd like to think my personal taste has something to say. At the moment House nights tend to be hit-or-miss, even in London.

Anyway, on the off chance that anyone cares, these are my fav acts:

    European progressive house:

    Dave Seaman
    Nick Warren
    Sander Kleinenberg
    Danny Howells
    Desyn Masiello
    Anthony Pappa

    US/Latino house:

    Joeski
    Onionz
    DJ Q
    Roger Sanchez
    Peace Division
    Masters at Work

    Techno:

    Dave Clark
    Carl Cox

Most of these folk are still producing music and spinning at clubs around the globe, but only a few seem to consistently produce innovative sets. Out of the above I'd ear-mark Nick Warren, Anthony Pappa, Carl Cox and Desyn Masiello as guys that seem to be able to really surprise you on the night.

I also love Goa or Psychadelic trance. This music used to be big in the UK during the late 90s but has since vanished from clubs altogether. Goa is typified by a deep pounding 140bmp baseline, with spacy, creepy sounds layed on top. To truly hear the best Goa trance you have to travel to India which is host to the most incredible outdoor full-moon parties. Me and my girl try to head there for New Year and Christmas each year. For anyone into this ind of music I'd recommend making the trip to the sub-continent, you won't regret it.

I hear Japan is huge for Goa trance at the moment. Do any of the Japan residents have any specific info?

slightly off-topic (and an old thread) but what do you guys think of happy hardcore? i've been listening a lot of it lately molly mush, valerie sparks, emisari etc. And GP why i have to agree that ko kimura and the like aren't pushing the envelope, they do put on a set that gets the masses dancing which makes for a fun time at the club. i guess i broke down and stopped being exculsive in terms of which events i went too, cause the bottom line is if ya wanna party every weekend you end up pandering to the lowest common denominiator. /versus/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I went through a phase of being into happy hardcore about 7 years ago. A mate used to spin the stuff in his bedroom. Totally crazy high-energy sets. It all got a bit cheesy when producers started making happy-harcore renditions of populor film music - I remember the Terminator theme tune being a low point.

Good to see the scene is still active, although the last piece of HH I listened to was probably Notradame from Rideg Racer on Playstation /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Just heard Danny Howells psin live last wednesday. He's so old school with the one ear piece headphone and he gets into it. His live sets are way better than his global underground sets. This thread was cool until certain people wanted to steal the other people's thunder in which type of music is good and which type isn't good. Mainly by telling off newbies what is actually good and what is not by switching genres and such. cough cough gaishou cough.

As far as happy hardcore, it's not the music that I don't get into. It's the stereotypical crowd/scene. Well, in my area that is.

Next live dj to come to Orlando. Paul Oakenfold again. Yay.

Danny is great, but needs a decent 5 hour set to really impress. He spins every few months at a club called Progression in Edinburgh, but generally only has 2-3 hours on the decks - not enough time to really develop a set. I used to love his warm-ups for John Digweed at Bedrock - his style of sexy spacy funky house was totally fresh at the time.

Oh, and if you don't like Danny's GU work, I strongly suggest you try his Nitelife Report series (there's 3 altogether). Superb stuff.

I didn't say I didn't like his GU work. I said his live stuff is better than his produced stuff. Yeah, he usually kicks ass with a longer set. But in central florida. Sets usually last only three hours due to the time frame. Miss the old dys when I would go to England and such. Dave Seaman is the only person I haven't heard live more than once on your list. He hardly comes down to central florida. Boohoo! haha. Thanks for your suggestion on Danny H.
