I heard that this game is twice as long as the second one, wich took me 9 hours to beat, but since you change character between play not at the begining I don't see a reason why it would shorten the game.

I want you to know I've changed my stance on this game and I seriously want it. I tried it the other day at my local import shop and it really is cool. Plus I hear the opening cinema kicks all kinds of ass.

Famistu wave had a really nice preview of it too. I'm just not sure if I should import or wait until May?

Onimusha 3 is actually much much better than I expected. It is easily the best action game of the year, more than Ninja Gaiden. The 'time travel' story gives it a cinematic feel, if you liked movies such as The Returner, you'll like onimusha 3's story alot. The gameplay is top notch and very challenging. The gfx and the cinemas in the game are ridiculously amazing. It's hard to believe it is a playstation 2 game. Even though Ninja Gaiden looks better and sharper, it's undeniable that Oni3 is still graphically impressive. The puzzles in the game are also a step above the usual stuff, it's quite varied. I would highly recommend this game if only for the intro movie, which is one of the most impressive CG work I've seen whether in films or games. Nothing even comes close.

Is it really a step above the previous 2?

The 1st was simple and very short, it had nice atmosphere and music but wasn't at all an ambitious game. The 2nd added stronger RPG elements but then ditched most of em early on, it just turned into endless hack and slash. This made it feel too much like DMC which would be ok but for the fact that the combat and movement was inferior and the fixed camera just made things worse.

I know the backgrounds are 3d with a moving camera now but what have they done to upgrade the gameplay?

Gameplay wise, the core moveset of samanosuke stays true to the previous games. The game introduces a whole new layer of gameplay, but I'll leave that for you to discover. The difference here in onimusha 3 though, is the higher difficulty and AI combat abilities. You simply will not be able to progress without a thorough understanding of the combat flow. Even minor enemies will be able to kill you if you don't use all of the moves and techniques. You will get penalized for blocking, it is really only a last minute move to fall back on, you can not base your attacks from block. The game requires you to master movement and countering (which is really hard to do well in this game). The boss fight will really test your skills. As for comparison to DMC, there isn't as much special moves in Onimusha, but that reflects more truly to the samurai root of the game.

Dammit Srider, if you were trying to get me all hyped up and excited about the game, you have thoroughly succeeded! You deserve a little commission from Capcom. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif
