Haijin...is he the Jacky player in KSII that lost to Ohsu in the first round?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, that's him. He seems really strong against Akira's though. Probably one of the best Jackys I've seen.

I really wanted to see Mukki get to the finals, but Minami is just too strong. He really showed why he was the best last night.

I have all the movies Myke` posted captured and indexed incase you really suck with streambox. I'll be on IRC from like 4:00 EST till like midnight EST incase anyone wants these. I can send a zip of all of them.

The first batch of 16 movies is 150 mb, all indexed .asf files in a zip.

why, after all this time, has Sega decided to change the format of the AM2 media NOW?

I've always been able to watch the Sega media, right up to last week, but suddenly I'm getting only sound with no picture (same as BT and Act Clips), which means they've encoded to WMV9.

    this really sucks

Great tournament last night. Had a blast watching it with my friends. We got tons of new ideas for the next fsb also. It's going to be kick ass. I loved how the trophies were bigger than the guys who won them. The two wolf players should have won thier matches respectively. The shun player was a total disspointment. Me and Namflow could have done better. Shou's sarah player (You) had some exciting matches. The only dude who didn't wear a jacket/sweatshirt, who used Lion, he kicked some ass. I couldn't believe he ate beatknuckle/semi-circular kick at the end to lose the round. Some other highlights....

*I am guessing.. they had some kind of trivia thing after the first round was over.

*some disappointments were not seeing Shinz or moonsuk play in the tourney.

*Kyasao looked like he was sleeping half the time. or wanting to go smoke

*Heruru took a long ass bathroom break

*The dude with the red vf4 vest.. I bet he doesn't get girls with that thing. lol

*they had a cleaning crew in between the fights to wipe the monitors and the control sticks and such. That's hardcore. Also I loved how the top players have to stand up there and talk a bit before the match starts. And how the announcer says ready go before you can press start. All great ideas for the next fsb.

You arn't kidding, that shun play left something to be desired... maybe he was nervous, but wtf... he kept on going for db+p, what was he thinking?!?! like "oh boy i'll win if only i get a major counter db+p"... sheesh... and he whiffed a dodge attack when akira was rising and like 20 feet away...

i wish shun and some of the non akira/kage/lau players had better showings... though i am mad happy my boy jacky won!

Yeah, true. But overall the tournament was very exciting. lots of intense matches. It seems the Japanese just have so much fun but keep it very intense at the same time. If you know what I mean.

It would have been awesome to see some Brad and Aoi players make it. Just to spice things up a bit.

i am sure the shun player was nervous

he is totally different to all the times i have seen him at the BT tourneys

Talk abt nerves, mumu dance could have killed minami with a BC ...he had him..but nerves got the better of mumu...>.<

    OK what the hell...

1st round Yoro vs Tsuchikumo, Tsuchikumo whiffs a throw, and Yoro gets mC [2_][3][P], [2]+[P], [K]+[G][P][P].

I THOUGHT that combo was Aoi only when I saw Yoro do it, and I can't get it to work on Pai. Is there some sort of trick or delay or something I'm missing? Or is this a *gasp* difference between the Arcade and PS2 versions?

After 20 mins of trying I got it off thrice on my ps2, open stance, 70 pts. But I couldn't figure out why it misses most of the time.. It felt like you should somehow inch Kage forward before the low punch, but how is that accomplished, I don't know.

kinda of topic but this is something i really appreciate about the japanese players. they make so many combos look so darn easy. like the combo you mentioned, i also thought was aoi only, till i saw yoro do it. similarly i thought some of chibitas combo variations after [2_],[6]+[P]+[G] looked pretty easy to do......till i tried to do them myself. in particular i was referring to combos like [2_],[6]+[P]+[G], [6],[6], [2]+[P], [P], [K],[K]|[3_]+[P],[P]. it looks easy when you see chibita do it but when i tried to do it myself i couldn't get it even once in the first 40/50 tries. became slightly easier after awhile but its still really hard imo. you need to time the [2]+[P] and [P] really well.

kind of makes you wonder how many other combos are possible which we haven't even attempted due to their difficulty. i know for certain shun has combos like this which are initially much harder and unreliable at a certain number of dps but become easier and more reliable as you get a few more drinks.

regarding the rest of the tourney, i missed the live show, but i DLed and saw most of the first round vids. some really good matches there. the kage player from the sarah/kage matchup must have wanted to commit suicide after his match!

agree on the shun player tho. probably pressure that got to him evidenced by that dodge attack tactic. anyway i hope that characters other then kage/akira/lau/jacky start dominating the japanese scene. i'm getting bored of watching these four characters dominate everywhere.

GLC is right, what's needed is the mwv9 codecs, which are not available for macintosh. While the 9 codec is available for older versions of Windows WMP, and WMP is available for the mac, MS hasn't bothered to make a newer version of the player for mac, or 9 codecs for the current version.

But, what REALLY sucks is that Sega decided to change to the 9 codec just in time for these post-tourney OTNHK3 clips.

For Pai, you need a 1-frame delay between the [2][P] and the [K]+[G], so the timing is really tight which is why this is a difficult combo. It also works against Vanessa (delay is a little more relaxed) and Brad (no delay at all, just like Aoi).

The fact that Yoro breaks this out under tournament conditions, opening match, against Tsuchikumo of all people, is further testament to his skill.

    Re: Obscure Combos

That timing situation kind of reminds me of a lion [4][3][P] combo vs kage (others as well)

    [4][3]+[P], [2]+[P], [4][4]+[K], *[P]+[K] (buffered)

*this will rarely hit and I suspect it is due to a strict timing... the combo isn't even documented with buffered [P]+[K], but I find it amusing how it will hit odd occasions. I've tried it in both stances and it seems to have open stance written all over it, but anyone with more info on this please share.

    Re: Obscure Combos

The only time I can pull off that combo against Kage regularly is when their back is near the wall, and I'm in open stance. It'll come out everytime there. In the middle of the arena, or in closed stance, I don't think I've ever done it. I'll practice with it though.

Everytime I've seen a combo that sometimes seems to come out, and sometimes it doesn't, it always comes down to whether a walls nearby, or you got to delay your attack, or buffer in a dash - something you got to be precise with. Those are the 3 main things that usually explain to me why a certain combo seems to not work everytime. Lion has a ton of these type of "precise" combos. It's enough to hurt your brain trying to remember them all. /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
