So, what are this vids saying about usage of characters? If I count right, then we saw:

    JA 19
    KA 12
    AK 7
    LA 6
    WO 6
    AO 5
    EI 5
    LE 5
    LI 4
    PA 4
    SH 4
    BL 3
    VA 3
    GO 2
    SA 2
    BR 1
    JE 0

... I think there's no need of any comment

an awful lot of Jacky's but he's cool in VF5. Same with Kage and Akira. I think Brad and Sarah need more showings though, I forgot his name but one Brad player made him look simply unstoppable. Same with another Sarah player I don't know the name off, he showed off Sarah as if it was a Jackie Chan fight with a kicking expert i.e Who am I end fight.

Anyway, it's nice to see Haijin again even though he lost. He's one of my fave jacky players.

I'm a little bit surprised by the lack of Jeffry players...this makes me want to play him more!

This looks like the site that will broadcast the Ote5 finals live. After talking to Ogi, it seems that you must register, and you must have a Japanese IP address?

Does anyone if there's any hope for us outside of Japan to watch the finals?

Srider says you only need a japanese IP for downloading the license - but you can navigate, register and watch the actual feed with any IP. Someone just needs to register and test it with a anonymous Japanese proxy - although downloading the license may go around proxies (I heard it's ActiveX, not a separate file).

You need a Japaneses zip code to register. Other than that, you need a Japanese IP to receive the license to watch the DRM protected streaming contents. I won't go into detail here since it involves legal issues, but it is possible to watch Gyao streams from outside Japan. I guess come hang out where the VF players are at before it starts and one of us will most likely be there to help out.

Just make sure you can watch DRM protected streams, otherwise that's another set of troubleshooting.

Unicorn thanks for compiling those numbers--they are very compelling indeed. I finally got around to watching some of those clips and I have to admit I was getting sick and tired of seeing Jacky and Kage matches. Counting up to the 25 regionals so far on Raging Silver's site (thanks so much for hosting those clips!!!) and for semi-final appearances only, I have:

    22: Jacky
    21:
    20:
    19:
    18:
    17:
    16:
    15:
    14:
    13:
    12: Kage* (+2)
    11:
    10:
    09:
    08:
    07: Akira, Wolf* (+1)
    06:
05: Aoi, Eileen, Lei Fei, Vanessa (+1)
04: Lau* (+3), Lion, Pai, Shun
    03: El Blaze, Sarah
    02: Goh
    01: Brad
    00: Jeffry

Is this the emerging tier list? I realize that Jacky and Kage are inherently popular, but so is Akira and his 7 appearances is in line with the other characters. I hope in Version A Sega took some time to bring those two characters down a notch. If not Version A, then maybe Version B.

Going just by what I know though I am pretty surprised that Kage is still up there. He seems to be weaker with the nerfed TFT, SE, chop, and [K]+[G], but maybe his new stance and [3_][P] damage potential are really that good.

I'm also surprised that Jeffry is once again rock bottom. With three really good throws I expected the big guy to be at least in the middle of the pack.

Anyway as the results stand above if a Jacky or Kage does not win OT5 then it should be considered an upset!

    * (Parenthesis) indicates double counting that was incorporated. For example, while 14 Kages made the semis actually only 12 distinct players made it--Koedo and Felix appear twice each in the semis. Similarly there are only 5 distinct Vanessa players instead of 6 as Kurita appears twice. Same for Wolf with Kumichou Wolf twice. Incredibly, Honolulu made the semis four times as Lau, so really there were only 4 Lau players that made it. Sadly for Honolulu, he only won once in the final four.

    This is probably more clear;

    Otenami5 Final
IIIIIIII Kag (8 ) [27.6%] F.arrow, Burimum, Senningiri, GakuranKage, NidaimeSanjuAkira, Howl, Koedo
IIIIIII Jac (7) [24.1%] Shindo, Furaibo, YoroshikoJ, Maruo, Anaguma, Kaesaru, ¤noHikaru
IIII Pai (4) [13.8%] Yanaga, Kusuriyasan, Shizuru, Takarazuka
III Lio (3) [10.3%] Suguru, Chibita, Food
II Lau (2) [6.9%] NahaTower, KingJoe
    I Aki (1) [3.4%] Tetsujin
    I Aoi (1) [3.4%] Atan
    I Eil (1) [3.4%] Gourgeous
    I Lei (1) [3.4%] Saitentaisei
    I Wol (1) [3.4%] Chacha

    (From the swe site)

Btw, character useage has never been = Tier. That's why people get surprised when tierlists come out and see stuff like Pai at the top in Evo and how high Aoi is in FT. Brad and Vanessa are probably, from all I've heard, very top in VF5 but not a single one in the final so far and we've all seen what a good Jeff can do.

Edit; Just got word from Jeneric that the last winner today was a Wolf player. Jeneric gave up his slot in the tourney to Kurita who arrived late / when it was full =P

Is someone going to record the entire stream?
