Yeah, the first DOA was the best. Hope they put more effort into the fighting engine for DOA 4. 2 and 3 got boring real quick.

I'm just curious about something re SC2. I've heard some characters don't have an attack that's fast enough to take advantage of the window that's created by GI, is this true? If it is, does this affect character balance?

Nope, every character can do damage if the opponent doesn't react properly after a GI (i.e., if they just hold G after being GI'ed).

The thing is that there is a 2G bug to it that changes the post-GI games. Basically, if you time 2G correctly (which has a smaller window than either GI, but doesn't carry the -40 frames for whiffing a GI) that will essentially let you block high/mid attacks while in a post-GI or GC (guard crush) state. Both states are similar in that the only reaction possible during those frames should be a GI, but this 2G bug negates that risk. 2G does lose to throws and lows and its window is pretty small (4-5 frames would be my guess) but it changes post GI in a stupid way.

"...well aware of the power of step. It's not unstopable, though, thanks to a usefull button labelled 'A'. All sarcasm aside, though, step is far from broken. It's powerful."

Hmm? what is this? Step-guard hasn't been mentioned yet? heck, with SS [G] you can dodge nearly all attacks, and block the rest.

    Ignore me.

Yeah. I have yet to play the DOA series, so I don't know anything about it... my apologies/thanks for clearing that up.

Step guard is far from unstoppable. The key is to anticipate step, and then use an A attack accordingy. Hit them out of the step, before they have a chance to guard.

hmmm, I doubt its Tekken 4. the whole idea of using poking to step up the big moves is frustrating. Steve Fox and Jin Kazama are the kings of poking, so they pretty much dominate. especially Jin. his 1,2 and the Laser Scraper are borderline broken. the 1,2 is fast, has good range, powerful, and gives you lots of space. the laser scraper is a juggle starter, powerful and can be charged to change the timing. /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I don't play SC2 really. but from my little experience, Cervantes rules the arcades. Necrid is totally broken on the console version and turtling is used to set up your big moves/combos. oh, and thinking button mashers can do fine unless they play an experienced player.

I don't play Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance or DOA.

    VF4Evo is the best/most balanced..but isn't that obvious?

regarding Soul Calibur 2's balance.. form your own opinion:

Anyways SC2 is a great game. b4k4 i recognize you from the SC forums (i go by 1k-1k over there). I don't know why i post more at that forum..i like VF way better than SC.

I just got DOA2H for my PS2 (i like to be familiar with as many fighting game series as i can) and was really impressed considering how old it is. Way better than any of the Tekken games.. still not on par with VF (obviously). Ever since i've had a lot more respect for the DOA series..but why the hell couldn't they have released DOA3 for PS2 ?? stupid XBox.

Speaking of which..anyone play DOAXBV? This game has novelty value (hot babes) but once you get over the boobs it's just.. addictive! Fuck that game i've gotten too good and can't stop playing. Need more money for better bathing suits.. Must see Leifang in a thong..

I didn't even know Balance EXISTED in fighting games untill vf4! Tekken was FAIRLY balanced, but still vf4 takes it home.

i second Gove. i never liked fighting games because they required no particular strategy in my POV and im a strategy kind of guy. until VF, i didnt know there was an actual balance to fighting games. In tekken, id pick Lee (since that's my name lol). All i needed to do was [2][K][K][K][K] (or something like that) and hed do a cheap move that would beat all my friends who OWN the game. sure they could dodge it by sidestepping but they dont know of that strategy since theres no tutorial that tells u about it lol. and since they dont kno about recovery time and frames, theyd try some powerful move that takes forever to execute and id beat them to the punch lol.

i also noticed in tekken how unbalanced some of the characters were. i think some of them focused on throws but its so hard to pull of throws in that game that it becomes pointless to ever use that character. (correct me if im wrong, i might be talking about another game =S)

i never even thaught about balance untill i found this
website. ive always played fighters and just liked to
find a character that i liked or whatever.

but yes there is balance issues in fighters.
    v4e is probably the best.

theres always a button masher character in every one...

Tekken 4 is pretty balanced exept for JIn. But some Tournaments are starting to not allow Jin players in because it gets booring.
