Just purchased the magazine yesterday. The articles are not anti-obama. I think the cartoon was meant to be satirical.

I think the New Yorker is trying to sell magazines!

The American people deserve whoever we vote for. If we are so simple minded that we will let the cartoon dictate our vote, then
we deserve whatever happens as a result.

The news media (especially cable) have degenerated into glorified
talk shows. They have a lot of hours to fill during the course of a day. There is no real reporting goin on. Just people showing up to work reading whatever is on AP and then filling their eight hour(or how ever many hour) shift with their mostly uninformed opinions and editorials.

I do believe that the next President of the US will have a dramatic affect on the global economy, the global ecology,
international relations, the prospects of education, universal health care, and the future position of the U.S.

If we elect John McCain because of ignorance, racism, fear, then
we deserve everything that will happen as a result of his presidency.

The cartoon and the New Yorker is not the problem. The problem
is that you cannot have a healthy democracy when the citizens are ignorant, uninformed, and uneducated.

If the ignorant, and uneducated prevail, then ultimately humanity won't survive (and in all honesty it shouldn't[/size]) Klatu Gort Niktu

If this country is already at the mercy of ignorant, racist, religous fundamentalist zealots then the New Yorker cartoon won't really have that much of an impact. There is all of the B.S talk
    about values, morals, what about:

Reason, Logic, problem solving skills, critical thinking, informed analysis, knowledge-based planning /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

Regardless to who is elected with a congress that is bought and owned by Corporate interests the U.S. is still in deep doo.
The congress can ultimately veto the President. The congress can
prevent judges from sitting on the bench. If the congress doesn't send up legislation that will be good on behalf of the average citizen then there won't be any legislation that will be good on behalf of the average citizen.

Nope that cartoon serves as just another distraction from what the real problems in America are:

Corporate oligopolies and oligarchies paid for and supported by
willfully ignorant, racist, and uneducated Americans.

4 more years of Bush! Lets put this puppy out of its misery /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

You are aware that the people contesting the image on the magazine are in fact supporters of Obama. So who is simple minded here?

I could tell you were a supporter. Its just several statements are presented in a manner that point fingers at the other party in regard to being racist, uneducated etc etc. Thats why i made the statement. However if you were intending to talk to both parties then I understand what you were saying and would ultimately agree on several points.

The simple people are the ones influenced by the type of media that portrays Obama just as that cartoon suggests...

"Ahh knew he wuz an Ayyrab! His wife's a terrist, too. See? Looky at this here Noo Yawker magzine. Dey spell it out for yeh. FOX has been sayin' it all long so t'ain't like this is news."

The New Yorker magazine is not targeted at the people who would believe the cover art portrayal. It's aimed at those tired of seeing Obama and his wife slammed left and right. The artist got it right except that there needed to be some dead fetuses in the drawing, too.

    Seriously, Masterpo's post is spot-on.

Those statements above were done to obviously sway the argument towards Obamas favor. Rather then mention the fact that the pendulum sways both ways.

It needs to be said that the supporters and the non supporters of that particular image need to know WHY they are doing it. If its because of what that image portrays alone then they are simply doing the same thing. It was more then obvious that you wanted the reader to see that the supporter of the image due to their belief that it was racism was simply a uneducated fool voting for McCain.

This is exactly why I made the statement I did. Supporting it for that reason is absolutely no different for not supporting it for the SAME reason.

Thats all I was getting at.

    Words of thought, guys:

Democracy demands hypocrisy. For obvious reasons. If you can see them.

McCain would continue Bush's economic policies that do NOT work.

Our economy begins to falter each time a Repubican is President.

    Herbert Hoover - Great Depression
    Dwight Eisenhower - 1957 Recession
    Richard Nixon - 1971 Recession
Gerald Ford - stagflation began in 1973
Ronald Reagan - "Black Monday," Oct. 19, 1987
    George H. W. Bush - 1991 Recession
George W. Bush - largest federal deficit ever!

    We deserve a change.
Let's get the Republicans out of the White House.

Electoral Vote>Popular Vote. Plain and simple, P.O.W homeboy gets in, my trip to Kowloon City, Hong Kong might come earlier then expected. The way things are going right now, all this country needs is a new drug to get people hook(Like crack in the 80's)And is a WRAP! Inner city's in the 70's & 80's were not peachy back then.
