Going back some years now but I think the one with Azel on it was the one that had Disc 1 of Panzer Dragoon Saga on the cover, wish I didn't throw all my copies out :(

More Azel for you Feck, so you can reminisce. Luckily, I learned my lesson after dumping all my G.I. Joe and Transformer toys when I was a kid, and trading in my Genesis and entire games library for my Saturn.

This one holds a special place in my heart:

My first issue of Computer and Video Games, maybe my all-time favorite video game magazine. The writing was off-the wall. The British humor always brought a smile to my face :) I particularly looked forward to reading Ed Lomas's articles- himself a Sega fan. I used to always had to stop by the local Borders store every couple days (now defunct) to make sure I got myself one of the few $10 copies they had. The British mags always put a dent in the pocket, but it was worth it.

While I have never bought one, I always saw the Sega Saturn Magazine covers in C&VG and thought the simplicity made them the best looking.

    Here's the covers Feck...

    More DOA with Tina

More Candy... or Honey if you're in the USA... or is it the other way around?

And the chick who starred in easily one of my top 5 games. PANZER SAGA seriously needs an HD release.

BTW, THESE IMAGES BORROWED FROM "OUT-OF-PRINT" ARCHIVE THAT HAS A TON OF HIGH QUALITY SCANS OF A LOT OF UK MAGAZINES... THEY ARE PROVIDING THESE TO THE PUBLIC, FREE OF CHARGE, AND NOT EVEN ASKING FOR DONATIONS. TO THEM, A BIG THANKS.

OK, my first EGM... it had a review of Thunder Force III, which may be why I bought the damn game. Surprisingly, or perhaps unsurprisingly, the scores were 9, 9, 8, 7... Shushi-X gave it a 7, go figure.

Some Dural action. This came out during the whole VF3 shebang where all the Video Game industry were falling over themselves over the Power VR powered "lifelike" game. Had to get all the mags with a VF3 related cover at the time.

Tips and Tricks had a cover for the DC release.

One of my most favorite and cherished games. Please Suzuki, do the right thing, and relieve the agony of not knowing... I just want closure!!!!! Make it into a book, maybe a Dungeon and Dragons type game, but I just want to know... what happens to Fangmei!!!

Next Generation is the video game magazine for the mature gamer and printed some material of the British Edge Magazine. This pic used on the cover can also be found in the CG disc for saturn. One of my all time favorite covers of a favorite mag.

OMG YOU HAVE IT! I keep digging in my old storage hoping to find that I did not throw away that issue of Next Generation!

Next Generation was one of my favorite gaming magazines because I felt it took itself seriously as a journal for gamers--I felt this way, even as a kid! I always thought Next Generation was basically the American arm of Edge Magazine. In fact, my love of Edge Magazine (which I have no problem importing from the UK but at least US stores now sell it and I subscribe to it digitally now), stems from my appreciation of Next Generation and Edge Magazine being the closest thing to NG!

Next Generation was reborn temporarily as a website, not surprisingly run by Edge (it's now just Edge) and it was good to read the articles there again.

I actually intended to write a post about NG/Edge here, but I'm glad you have done the honors and with the scans of the covers that I have been hoping for!

    CHEERS!

LOL, I was digging for mine too. I was planning of putting that cover on the first post of this thread, but just couldn't find it. I was getting all depressed thinking I lost it.

Next Generation always had more substance to the writing, definitely. Yeah, if you look at the font used for the titles of on the magazines, you can see they share the same font.

I was gonna post in the "how VF influenced the PS1" thread, to just reference Next Generation magazines, cause they chronicled the whole Saturn vs PS1 and the transition from that "32-bit" generation to the next without bias. Lots of meaningful interviews with the most influential people in the industry.

BTW, maybe you should scan the Yu Suzuki article/interview and OCR it into a post here :p

If I had a scanner (I think it fell in the black hole), I would have scanned the covers. :( Looking online as we speak :)

OK, I just got finished with the scans, and included other pieces written related to Sega and Virtua Fighter. The PDF is OCR'd, but it has heavy compression to make the file size as small as possible, while still being readable.

There are other interesting articles like the viability of online gaming, and the battle of optical disc format of the day- MMCD (Multimedia CD) and SD (Super Density CD)- which would eventually produce the DVD format we know today (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD).

It brings me back just to how great and insightful Next Generation was. We have the internet today, and it's refreshing to see how consuming media have changed so fast.

Thanks so much, Catch! I am preparing for a flight to Thailand tomorrow, so going to load the PDF into my iPad!

And Next Generation was a great periodical, I still miss it! Edge is good though and is the mother publication, but Next Generation struck the right balance for me.
