PS3 Price WTF!!!!

Im not buying a PS3 for movies. God knows the playback capabilities especially if you compare it with those of the PS2 DVD player. Im buying it for games, but I am forced to get the 600 version because of the HDMI capabilities.

I still dont believe that online play with Sony will be free. I heard empty promises from Sony before (1Sku, dual HDMI, etc.). Maybe Sony's service will be free, but you may have to pay a monthly fee to the developer such as EA.

Yea, I know what you mean, PS2 didn't have the most stellar playback ability but it was a functional player. It brought many households into the DVD generation.

I'd be one to buy a PS3 as a dual function game/movie player, because if Blue-ray catches on (and it looks more and more like it will), I'll have an option. Xbox 360 doesn't have that option, you have to pay more money for a HD-DVD player. So essentially, the two systems will end up costing about the same.

Basically, it's a gamble. Do you bet that Blue-ray will catch on? Then PS3 is your best option. Do you bet HD-DVD will catch on? Then get a stand alone player, or wait for the hd-dvd peripheral for your Xbox.

And I'm confused on your comment about buying the 600 dollar version because of HDMI. If you're strictly going to use it for games, than it doesn't matter now, does it? That encryption is specifically built for movies, if I'm not mistaken. It's not going to downgrade your game signal, as far as I know. Let me know if I'm wrong.

I personally think it's great if Sony's service is free. Again, I don't see enough value in normal Xbox live to want to pay for it. I'd much rather pay for one game that I enjoy. PS2 game's online modes have a history of being free (SOCOM, MGS3, etc.). The only thing that isn't free is the MMORPG model. With Xbox Live I have to pay money to play a shooter online, where I can just do that on my PC for free. Doesn't make much sense to me. I guess it's just my perspective as a PC gamer.

looking at the price of a cabinet,, PS3 + HDTV + VF5 + 2 Hori Sticks (u know they will make them) seems to be a cheaper altenative,,,

i ran straight towards the vf5 machine, i dont think i can play VF with a Wii-mote /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

 

It's Blu-ray, not Blue-Ray, not Blu-Ray. And if you can afford a 1080p TV, that extra 100$ won't be a problem for ya. The point is simple the extra 100$ from the PS3 won't buy you anything essential. The base model will do just fine for DVDs and gaming. Get it in your head.

used games is a huge monster contraversy in Japan. if they do this, it's in response to the Japanese market. US market isn't nearly as crazy.

$499 for a ps3 is minor, my 1st dvd player (sonys dvp-7000) was $1000 on dvds launch...

people need to remember that vf5 is not a launch game fro ps3....

spring 2007 could mean may 2007, some 6 months after the launch of the ps3, and most likly to of been reduced by then

Here's the deal: I don't recollect any of it as you're quite famous for just the opposite. I'm guessing a good 10 months of nearly-unwavering positive posts before my initial perceptions change when someone says "Shadowdean."
