PS3 Slim=PS3 Price Drop. PS3 299$

How about the bitstream? I hope the PS3 Slim can support it, otherwise, old PS3 only can decode to LPCM.

 

Dude, is the same system. The only difference is that the "Phat" PS3 has the option to install Linux, while the Slim one took that feature away.

 

So is this coming slim PS3 exactly the same as old one except the Linux installation? I thought it will be the upgrated one for the audio aspect. It looks like SONY still keep PS3 and regular BDP apart on the marketing. Haha~ that's SONY!!

 

The removal of linux makes no sense to me at all. Even if they don't want to support the feature anymore, they could at least leave the ability to install it in for those of us that like to tinker.

The $299 price point does look pretty attractive though. There aren't a lot of games I want that are PS3 exclusive, but I think I would use it mainly as a Blu-ray player.

Just wondering if the slim ps3 have 2 usb slots like the 20, 40, and 80 gb models and have full backward compatability like the 60gb? i think i'll keep my refurbished 60gb sorry cozby . PS I dont know how to install linux OS and where to get it

 

They said it has the same feature set as the current PS3 model so doubt it will have backwards compatability.
