The reality of the situation is that you can purchase thousands of credit card numbers with the exp. date and the 3 degit code for less than 20$. It would be far less productive to try to use the info gotten off of PSN because not all of the info is stored.

Now if your PSN nick is your place of birth, hostpital you were born and your social security number and your password is your mother's maiden name - then I'd be scared.

Yeah, I mean, it isn't hard to file a dispute with your bank over credit card fraud, but it's time consuming and irritating nonetheless (usually about a week to get a new card). I had a problem when monoprice got their credit card database stolen, it took nearly a month to get the money back.

Yo Feck, I read somewhere that Sony would not be sending any e-mails about this (specificaly because e-mail accounts were compromised) and to be wary of any e-mail that is supposedly from Sony... [IMG]

I haven't received any e-mail from Sony and from what I've been reading I don't expect to receive any official e-mail from Sony.

    Be careful Dude....

I stop supporting SONY ever since the Bayonetta and PSN account glitch I encounter with them(4 times!)....And removing features to a device I payed for......I never heard of any consumer device do such a thing. You pay what you get for, folks.

Yeah this sucks, my girlfriend loves Qriocity music. But whatever, /netflix still works, and I can concentrate on beating Yakuza 4. Maybe I'll actually finish Valkryia chronicles now. It's a good thing I didn't buy Socom 4 on launch day , or I wouldn't be taking this half as well as I am.

@M. Po, if you don't see the email from Sony check your junk mail box. Most of the time email providers send most mass e-mails there automatically.

@guillotine thanx, it was in my spam box [IMG]

I don't know how many people R gonna trust the PSN after this [IMG]

MayB ppl will get online, but the idea of givin up cred c info is probably a thing of the past. Which prolly means that
unless the DLC is free it won't be downloaded as much. I can imagine a lot more focus being put on single player options now [IMG]

And Sony's prolly gonna lose a percentage of their installed base after this.

This whole thing could indirectly affect XBL [IMG] Once word gets out to mom and dad, they may turn off the money for both the PS3 and the Xbox online [IMG]

I hope I'm just being overly pessimistic, but this could be a big blow against online gaming in general [IMG]

The thing that pisses me off the most, is that most people blame Sony.
Honestly, if you wish to run Linux, than you: a) don't need PS3 for that b) don't need PS3 for that.

Ok, so Sony decided to remove the "Other-OS" support, then someone hacks PS3, then someone hacks PSN. There is no possibility to be 100% sure, that those are related. If they are, that is a silly reason to attack an online service like PSN. If it's not, then how is Sony being attacked their own fault?

Their only fault is in not having top notch security. Who is to say, they didn't have amazing PSN security, but some freaking genius simply got through it. Who is to say, that it wasn't the other way around. Well... no one.

If you want to blame someone, at least blame Sony AND the hackers. Don't put them in a positive light. They are no heroes. They only managed to get almost 100 milion people angry. Pfff, that's no feat.

People rightfully blame Sony. I mean they are the ones responsible for their own online security, which, from what I have read, was horrible.

This is all 110% Sony's fault. They removed Intstall other OS feature, they removed DVD RW support , all to be miserly and wring every last cent they can from gamers. As if making their system impossible to play pirated games will bring them more prospective customers.
If people want to play pirated games on their PS3 let them. There are so few sources of torrents for PS3 games, it will take them weeks to download one game. In that same time I will have bought, beaten, and sold 3 games.

Removing the "install Other OS feature" Antagonized hackers, which led to the GeoHOT fiasco, which in turn led to this PS3 shutdown. This whole PSN shutdown and reboot will cause more direct losses than any theoretical losses they might have suffered from game piracy.

I just want to play my new Socom. I've played through it and beaten it on Hard (now there's fucking elite to complete...I wish shooters would let me choose the hardest difficulty from the offset).

The single player was fucking dreadful, it had lackluster cutscenes which I skipped every time because it tries to be "dramatic" when in actual fact it is just cringey. Oh, and your team mates are inbred.

I've still got Socom 1, Socom 2, Socom 3, Socom: CA. I even have that waste of a bluray disk known as Confrontation.

    WHEN CAN I PLAY MULTIPLAYER!?
