Well, you can only gather a few things from the trailor directly, most of it is extrapolated from that and the history of the developers.

Firstly, because its from heavenly sword creators Ninja Theory the MAIN fear is that the mechanics of the game are going to be like heavenly sword, which were generic, and filled with QTEs. average gameplay wouldn't be so bad but this is DEVIL MAY CRY. the FATHER OF ALL ACTION GAMES. god of war, ninja gaiden, all these hit series based there designs off of devil may cry 1, and they wouldn't have existed otherwise. GoW people mention it explicitly in there interviews if you want some data.

Then theres dmc3 which is still the best action game of all time, mechanics wise, at least before bayonetta. Bayonetta though STILL features basic dial-in-combos and isn't very free form, which is where dmc3 really shines. DMC3 is creative, you make w/e combo you want, and most of the moves are all balanced out so no one move is so powerful there is no reason to use something else and there are no useless moves either. This makes it so its not only okay but, imperitive to switch up what you use and be creative with your actions because the style gauge penalizes for using the same moves over and over again (button mashing). You really have to play a few action games and then play dmc3 to really see how superior it is. The only games close are ninja gaiden, and bayonetta, which feature better enemies, but IMO less deep gameplay, with NG gaiden being COMPLETELY DIAL IN COMBO, and more about surviving not having creative fun.
There are even style CONTESTS held for dmc3 because of how great and creative the combos can get, and they are very fun to watch.

anyway, so the point is your taking THE FATHER AND KING of all action games, and giving it to ninja theory(NT) to develop dmc5(DmC). From interviews they even imply that they think heavenly sword game play is great. This basically sends the message that they don't really care about having a superior game mechanics engine, instead they probably want to DUMB IT DOWN just so casuals and newbies are more willing to by the game. Thats the first MAJOR ISSUE with the game, that the gameplay will probably suck. Since the weapon in the trailer actually is VERY SIMILAR to the changing sword of heavenly sword we can guess that the gameplay will also probably be more like lame heavenly sword gameplay, instead of amazing dmc3 gameplay. Which is hella depressing. For a fan of the game, its like tasting THE MOST DELICIOUS DRINK OF ALL TIME, and then finding out they are going to stop making it and instead replace it with regular coke. Its messed up, we want more amazing gameplay not bullshit dumbed down dial-in-combo and QTE messes.

Then theres the story. Now HS(heavenly sword) did present its story decently, and it was atleast somewhat interesting. I expect this story to be pretty good, and if it was another game I would find it interesting, BUT ITS DANTE THEY ARE FUCKING WITH HERE! They are taking Dante, and turning him into a very lame character for very shitty reasons. The main charm of dante is that he is just REDICULOUS, completely UNREALISTIC, and it makes sense that he would have a crazy personality since hes near immortal (at least in CG, in gameplay DMC3 is known as one of the hardest games out there you die in like 2 hits). Anyway thing is the director has TERRIBLE TASTE in characters, heres a interview that just sounds rediculously silly:

I could talk about how stupid it is to make a video game character realistic in his look forever. its like having batman look not like batman, or even a crazy ninja like he did for parts of begins, but instead a random guy in a hoody and jeans, does that sound right? Hell no it sounds retarded and another good quote to express how bad this guys philosophy in making characters is taken from a guy in IGN forum :
"I think what bothers me is that the new design is just too realistic. It's easy to associate this type of fashion with a particular personality - a douche bag personality - and it really taints the whole concept"

GOD ITS ALL SO BAD, youth of today ARE RETARDED MAN! They have the WORST TASTE ANY GENERATION EVER HAD, why? because more emphasis is being put on appealing to younger ages, and "casuals", or people who don't no shit and will think anything is good cause they just havent seen enough movies heard enough music, played enough games etc, basically casuals= newbies who don't know good from bad yet. Anyway, YOUTH OF TODAY MAN, were all screwed if thats what this dante is based on. Also the smoking is JUST SO GOD DAMN TRY HARD, his ENTIRE CHARACTER is just TRYING SO DAMN HARD TO BE GENERICALLY COOL ITS TERRIBLE, atleast dmc3 dante wasn't trying to be cool, he was just trying ot be absolutely CRAZY and thats what we loved about him (although he was def a lil TOO immature at times, dmc1 dante had the best badassness and maturity level out of practically any character).

The powers that be are really trying to make me give up playing games because all the games I really like are seriously being fucked with.

While I hate Sega at the moment, I can only hope and pray they don't screw up Phantasy Star Online 2.

movies are bad lately, u have bad stories like avatar which just leave a TERRIBLE taste in your brain, like while watching avatar I was like cool, this is fun, then the ending hits, and afterwards your like wait... that movie was complete and utter bullshit it got built up into seeming different, cool, then just ends in the MOST GENERIC ENDING EVER. a "hollywood" bullshit happy ending. god I hate hollywood.

then we have books like twilight (and movies) being very popular.
the crap R&B and pop is terribly generic and dull, I'm even taking a music class right now about pop and basically lately the songs are getting MORE AND MORE simpler, more TONED DOWN.

everything is getting toned down AND IT SUCKS!

and now.. devil may cry, is trying to become god of war. with the heads going "MAKE IT WESTERN" and then hiring developers who make shit gameplay... sigh...

oh and lastly, you have VF being incredibly unpopular even though it is THE BEST FIGHTER PERIOD. the most balanced, the most deep, the PERFECT speed, everything is god damn perfect in this game gameplay wise. Ya a story would be nice, and random dojo features, but the core fighting gameplay IS GOD DAMN THE BEST, and yet NO ONE PLAYS IT!
it wouldn't matter if no one played it except this means NO LOCAL RANDOM TOURNAMENTS, NO OFFLINE PLAY,

At first I thought you would be just another kid to bitch about new DMC without any reason.
I noticed, however, that you actually know what you are talking about in this subject. DMC3 shows in a great way how cool Dante is. It also had awesome gameplay and didn't bore me for even one moment.

Heavenly Sword on the other hand is IMO one of the worst action games I have played on my PS3 so far. Absolutely devastating It felt like an unfinished product, something that should be worked on for another year. It was terrible gameplay wise, it was OK story wise, and not so bad presentation wise - All in all... not even OK.

Before judging the studio, I would like to check out Enslaved first. If this game turns out to be as crap as HS was, then I will simply assume they didn't learn a thing and therefore lose all hope for DMC ever being a good game.

I didn't bitch about the new Dante's look, I thought I can get used to it, since it's only a trailer, a lot can change.
This douche smokes and is a symbol of emo-shit though! I can't take it. It's disgusting. It's not 80/90 for people to have such haircuts and for smoking to be considered cool. Fuck that off!

So yes, like you, I do not have high hopes for DMC. They need to live up to very high expectations, and as of now they fail considerably.

well, I think using caps in certain parts helps highlight important things.
its the same as bolding a section, underlining, highlighting it, and I feel like it makes it easier to understand what the person is REALLY trying to say. holding shift is also alot easier then bolding stuff too.

 

Unfortunately you chose to put emphasis on something wrong because DMC is certainly not the "FATHER OF ALL ACTION GAMES". In fact it's not even the pioneer of the walk-around-kick-and-shoot-stuff subgenre of action games so you came out looking like an idiot.

My advice: next time take your finger off the shift button when you try to present your opinion as facts. If you get something wrong other readers won't be hard on you and might actually proceed to read the rest of your arguments. Maybe find your post useful in the end, despite a couple of inevitable flaws. Maybe you won't get banned from the IGN forums next time

@ Tony, That is my favorite fight scene as well. There are actually several fight sequences between Jackie and Benny. Depending on which version of this movie you watch you'll find that the score during the fight is different. (I prefer this one)
