Ill have to agree with fodose, MMA is a limited form of "competition" with RULES to provide entertainment. The reasons monks and some other martial arts arent in MMA is that they're meant to disable or kill, not to cause people to tap out. It wouldnt be good for the industry monetarily if some crazy ass aikido user reverses a jab and pops the guys shoulder 15 seconds into the match. Im not saying itll always happen, but the possibility is there. UFC, K-1 and other leagues is a business, and fighters are paid to stay in the ring as long as possible to entertain fans their source of income.

I dont know how many times i gotta mention this guy, but if MAS OYAMA, entered UFC, id be bored to shit. If Mas Oyama punched you, he broke your ribs, if you tried to block that punch, he broke your arms. He could chop bullhorns with his barehands, his fists had that much destructive power. Throw him in UFC and matches will last under a minute guarenteed.

I cant see how people put the main styles in MMA on a pedestal, entertaining yes, a supreme martial art, sure with a referee and some rules.

My basic argument still holds. Not to mention, most of the styles you mentioned do no form of full contact sparring. Its like memorizing numbers in VF but never playing. Its one thing to go through the motions, its an entirly new thing when someoen is trying to kick your head off, choke you out, or break your arm. People are not applying those moves "just" to make you tap, but you tap because you don't want that thing destroyed.
Mass Oyama's style of Kyoshenken karate is awesome...its a limited full contact and with ground training, many of their fighters do very well in NHB competitions.
You may train in theory, but I fight in practice.

Shadowdean, your posts are becoming more and more goonish.

There must be a better outlet for your roid rage.

Try devoting a few hours each week to Buddhist meditation on, say, the concept of infinity or the true meaning of compassion or something. This might do wonders as far as making you seem less like a walking testicle.

    awesome stuff..
i still love MMA for entertainment,, just hate the ufc watered down version (but i still watch).

some of my conclusions of MMA world:

Bob sapp - very cool and scary ,, not a fun fighter to watch
    Venerlei - damn,, scary
    gracies/shamrocks - dead
Kevin Randelman- has this guy won any real fights? he's a greta example of a wrestler that does not evolve his game; lots of power, but i only see him as someones stepping stone
kazushi sakuraba - i still love him

UFC vs Prid e - pride still has less rules than UFC and seems a little more brutal now. UFC is trying to stay a sport. screw that.

    One definition of sport:
"The difference of purpose is what characterises sport, combined with the notion of individual (or team) skill or prowess".

This is probably going to sound blasphemous in this thread, but I doubt that any of the martial artist named here have the hand speed and cordination to beat a champion boxer.

My logic is simple. Champion boxers make several million dollars per fight. If these people had ability sufficient to beat them, they would. There are only three reasons a person passes up a chance to make $5 million.

    1) He can't get the job done.
    2) He can make more money elsewhere with the same effort.
    3) Religious conviction.

Now you do know that any emotion is uncalm, right? And violence stems from things like hatred, anger, fear, frustration etc.

Back on topic: been searching high and low to find some demonstration of this again.

I'm just going to throw out a hypothetical competition called the International Boot to the Balls Tournament, wherein the object is for two fighters to kick each other in the testicles until one is left standing for a prize of, say, $10 million. Punches of any kind, grappling, high kicks, and indeed anything other than a specialized, straight kick to the crotch is strictly against the rules.

Now imagine how a champion boxer would fare in such a tournament, connect the dismal result back to your original premise, think on how/whether this even reflects on the boxer's ability as a fighter, and see whether your logic still holds up.

Most boxers who are pros do not do that well at Vale TUdo unless they train how to stop a take down. In the first UFC, the guy was a professional boxer...after seeing the violence before, he was like fuck this and took a dive.
Antonion Rodregio Nogeuira recently won the south american HW boxing championships in Brazil BTW.
MMA - gotta be good at everything,

My violence stems from a love of fucking humanity, wtf are you talking about?!?!?! Fear leads to anger, anger leads to groin shots, groin shots lead to me doing the mexican fucking hat dance on your head!

Maybe you mean it but frustration at the reults so far shouldn't make you angry. Which you simply are *sighs*

was merely referring to the entertainment value that either one holds for me. not trying to say one is a sport or rules makes it more of a sport - dont care about that - shoot i love watching college wrestling.
    pure entertainment value.
