Also LOL@ Gernburgs defending yet another flavor of the month game. Why do you guys go through this? I understand if you have been playing the game for months and then say stuff like this but why defend it so hard when you're not absolutely sure that you will be playing it 3-6 months from now?
I'm going to play it before I give my final opinion on the actual gameplay but from what I've seen, I've been there done that for the past 10-15 years.

No, Capcom, not this time. You can only rewrap the same crap in a prettier package so many times before I say "wait... wtf is this?!"

If you can't see the "been there, done that" feeling with this game then you prob just didn't grow up playing SF.
If you're a young buck and this is your first SF: enjoy /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

woah I'm not defending it so hard, i just like the look of it and want to play it, fed up with all the other shit on my shelf, is that so bad?

I played a lot of SFII in my younger days, but only up to SSF2 the new challengers.

I think Tony's post was more aimed at n00bbergs, no need to worry MP /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I'm with Tony on this one. I've gotten older and so have my taste in games. Street fighter 4 isn't a bad game but its the same game that we been playing for decades. Sure I like VF but I'm not bias I tell it like it is. What if VF5 went back to how it was in VF2 with no tech rolling, 100 foot jumps and same damage this is basically how I feel with SF4. I understand that the parrying system could of been over powered but when you have a SF game with no airblock, one super, no super jumps and other techniques that's been axed out in favor for simplicity then you have a SF game that gets boring quick. Hadoken!! Hadoken!! yes you jumped SHORYUKEN!! sure its satisfying connecting the old tired set up but it was more satisfying 15 years ago

I've only had SFIV for a couple days but I like it so far. However I pretty much settled for this because it seems Blazblue will never be released on XBox 360 and I was in the mood for some 2D action.

This thread has been actually useful for me. I'm on the fence whether to get SF4 or not.

I will try it out first when i get the chance. I won't play it competitively so I'm in no rush to get it but I will probably get it down the line.

I bought the game and I LIKE IT!.

havent played sf2 in YEARS and I like the new 3d gfx. sure its the same shit, but i was expecting that! (wtf didnt you guys saw all the youtube clips?!? and still ccomplaining that they have the same moves?! and STILL bought the game?!! wth)

i think this game will appeal to SF2 -CASUAL- players (which i am), not for the tourney hardcore.

also, STHD...what were people expecting? supposedly this game is hailed as the most hardcore in the series, then here comes the console version with a fresh new paint job, and people regret buying it???! was it the paint job? or was it the gameplay? cause...WTF its exacly the same! theres an option to make it JUSt like the original (gameplay wise) so what exacly is the hate on this version? im confused.

p.s. anyone in new york wanna trade the viper figurine that comes with xbox for RYU that come with ps3?

disclaimer: the above has been MY opinion, read it again if confused. and for people that are cursing the opinions of others in this thread...ask yourself this question: would you say that in front of his/her face in some future gatherings? with the same feeling? w/o the whole "i was just kidding" defense? if you answer yes, then you have my respect.

It's an aight game. My first experience with SF was pretty much STHD, I played the original ST like 3 times before that but to be honest I really liked STHD. No matter how dated the gameplay may be. And without the experience I don't see the problems on the gameplay side.

SF4 on the other hand is just okay, but I think once I get used to it more I'll like it better. I guess not having a lot of SF experience makes the game fresher to me and I'm okay with that. I do get annoyed at the general low dmg. That was one of the things I realy dug in ST/STHD, high dmg games are fun.

just a noob question.. but I can't dash in and throw after I knock someone down right? lol.... I am still thinking vf style.

I put in some more time, I like being able to play it on the arcade mode till someone joins in. Feels like the arcades in the old days till someone comes in and wants to challenge you.

I have been playing Chun Li and Vega. But I think I will learn all the new characters. Someone mentioned it.. it's a new game, there are new characters. I think I'll start with that. Maybe it will make me want to play it more.

Why exactly did Capcom drop all of Street Fighter 3s cast? It seems 3 was a step in the right direction as far as giving new characters and moves to players with the whole cast overhaul thing.

I'd kill to be able to play Dudley or Q or Elena again.

there is no throw invulnerability in SF4 after being knocked down. You can dash up and throw.

BTW much respect to viper players. That execution is sick.

Answer to your question is sales, 3 and Alpha series didn't do well at all. Going back to the cast and mechanics of the most popular SF is like insta-cash.

Dudley and Q /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

I didn't know you get either one or the other? damn i was under the impression you get both with collectors edition. Luckily for me when you preorder the collectors edition you get a chun li model as well which is exclusive to Game stores.

But seriously that sucks about the Ryu model, he does look pretty lame, looks like he's throwing an invisible sandwich

as for 3rd strike characters... Ive never touched third strike, but Ive always liked the look of Dudley, Mokoto and Q

No one plays the original one on that game. Just the remix, and that's not the same. And besides, I don't enjoy ST's philosophy anymore so thta made it even worse.

If you guys want the Ryu figure I got you can have it I hate Ken, Ryu, and Akuma I would melt it down or something like that but since money is hard to come by nowaday I would be willing to part with it for a very reasonable price. I would actually want the Viper figure though.

Now that I played the game myself I really like it, the Focus Attacks are easy to pick up quickly and make for a nice touch to the old school feel to the game. the Challenge mode reminds me of the day when I began play VF4evo and began to learn to play game from scratch, R needs a training mode simular to it if the game comes out that is. The continual challenges while I play arcade is good but there are many times I want to just play arcade straight through and avoid all the noob ken and ryus etc only doing basic SF2 move only to get hit out of the air or thrown all the time.

Overall the game very solid and my training with chun li is coming hard and it will be a considerable challenge to get decent with her. Look me up if you guys play the PS3 version and beat up on my scrubby chun li some.

Not gonna claim I'm a huge SF head, but I played SF in the arcade when it was 2 buttons. . .

Even though there are throwbacks, I think this game is more than "been there, done that." Capcom did a good job of using universal techniques to ensure that players always have an option, unlike sfII lockdowns, and so far it seems to be better balanced than sfIII.

My feelings on SF4: I don't think I like it very much most of the time, and other times I love it.

What I don't like about it is opponents who just run away constantly, throw fireballs, uppercut when you get close blah blah blah. I have accepted this practice as a part of street fighter. I also know there are ways to beat it, and I know many of those techniques. But the honest fact is, these "tournament strats" just aren't fun for me.

I also don't find much fun with the moment-to-moment gameplay. I think its the defense that really bugs me. You're only option is to simply block most attacks. With the addition of the focus attacks, I really thought this would change, but it doesn't. Theres simply nothing you can do when someone grounds you, then stands over you with crouching light punch until you get up. You can block it, but they'll end the combo with a fireball and you're now too far to do anything about it. So you simply take chip damage every time you fall down. There seems to be no better wakeup option (unless your character has a shoryuken). Again, this is something I've come to accept as part of the street fighter series, but I just don't find it much fun.

However, there are times when the game is absolutely thrilling. Comboing into ultras, for example. Or dodging an ultra thats coming at you by the skin of your nose. Thats good stuff. But most of the time, I'm not really enjoying myself playing the game.

But I'm not giving up on it yet. Perhaps theres something I'm missing, some part of the game that is really fun. I haven't played the game to its full depth yet, so we'll see if my opinion changes then.
