SMB! Nice post. I'll add to what you wrote about balance in life:

VF is addictive, everybody on this site knows this. I use to have problems taking care of some priorities bc I allowed VF to become a priority. It isn't. VF is a pastime (at least for me it is). I can call VF a bunch of things, a hobby, a leisure activity, etc. but the last thing I wanted to do was to take care of a "game" before "business". But, sadly, I have done it.
So here's a few tips I learned to keep myself from getting sucked into the time-consuming vortex that is VF:
1. Disconnect your online capability. This will help you if you just want to jump on sometimes and practice a little and/or play some Quest mode. If you're online, chances are that you will get sucked into going into ranked or player mode.

2. Disconnect your system and put it away. This is for those that can't just play a little bit of Quest or Dojo without getting sucked in for hours.

3. Put to-do-things in your car. That way before you get home from work, whatever it is that you have to take care of is already waiting in your car and you don't go home and say "I'll just play a little bit and then go take care of what I need to later."

Lastly, try to find other rewarding and gratifying activities that you can stand out in. Like sports, socializing, exercise or even school. Try to keep in mind that the gratifying experience that you can get from VF can be found in other things too.

I've learned that releasing an insanely epic update to your game can be a bad thing. Especially when you don't let people play it, dangling it in front of their faces like a carrot.

Just wanted to clear this up a bit. Don't know what the exact disadvantage was, prolly 4 or so and not all the way down to 6. But say it'-6 and i'm out of practice a lil rusty so it takes me 3 frames to recognize and react, but i'm lazy so i waste an additional 3 by casually entering my throw rather than being precise, then all the lag has to be is 1 from for your throw to beat mine. And i know there are situations in the same game where the lag is effecting you too. Prolly more so than me even considering you are more diligent with with fuzzy and defensive techniques. And who knows, maybe the 1 frame lag wouldn't be there if i wasn't listening to a podcast on my computer while i play. Maybe it was never there. Maybe it took my 5 frames to recognize and 3 to try and punish. IDK. So don't take it personally.
My only real point was, that it is discouraging when this stuff happens online. I've often argued that the perception of what a laggy match does to your game is what can ruin it for many people. The truth is no one really knows where the lag is affecting them for certain. But not knowing whether your TE was just not quite right or whether it was the lag is a frustration all itself. Anyhow, sorry i used u for an example.

not knowing if something is lag or your inputs is a huge deal when you're still working on your basics. That is the major reason I stopped playing vf online for months. Just so I could get a feel for where stuff is at and know it's me not the lag.

Too many ignores could make my VFDC look like this, though.

I'd never ignore you, of course. Actually, I don't have ANYONE on ignore.
