Manji, I think you are aware of games like UFC 2010 and FNR4

Both of these games have fighters that look very realistic, in fact both games aim for as much realism as is possible on this generation of consoles.

I don't think the Uncanny Valley will be a problem. Especially given the multi-million dollar success of the UFC fighting games [IMG]

Almost. It was rumored that a new hardware unit for arcades called the Rinnedge (?), or something like that, would be used for VF5FS. That however is not the case, 5FS will be on Linberg hardware just like the other revisions.

The graphics already been touched up, the character models and animation is the best of any 3D fighter to date. The only fighting game that comes close in the level of detail that VF offers is DOA4, and that's in the stage department not models. AM2 always been the pioneers when it came 3D modeling, audio and animation in the Biz.

That might mean that the one lindbergh cabinet in Helsinki could be updated to VF5FS... Damn that would be nostalgic if it would be the only chance to play it!

No it's not. Especially in the animations.

Don't get me wrong, FS has the best animations in the series to date. But compared to the other 3D fighters, it's still a little lacking, even though it can now hold itself up against them.

This. The graphics in vf5/R/FS are not as good as the ones in soulcalibur 4. Despite being a far superior game/series VF does not even come close to looking as good. VF is way too glossy and shiny(most characters look like they are wearing a layer of vaseline).

    Tekken, DOA, SC...

    Mainly those.

And I'm strictly talking about the animations here.

    ...fuck!

anyway, i really don't care if it will have the best graphics or not. all i care is if we are all able to play it. It's about damn time to play a new version of VF5. this will bring about new players and make the community grow. that's all that matters.

All those games you just listed are horrible in terms of animation, Tekken for gods sake have animations from the middle 90's still in it. They are much to twitchy and jerky for them to look good.

I have to agree. I've always hated the "new car" look. Seems to turn off a lot of people too or at the very least I've heard the complaint a lot.

Please. A lot of the improvements FS can do, Tekken already done on Tekken 5. Believable juggling? Done. Centre of gravity issues? Fixed.

The 3 fighting games I mentioned also best VF in the throw animations dept. especially. That doesn't mean however that VF's throws are shit (now), it just means they've still got a (shorter) way to go.

In terms of animation, I'd say SC4 is the best overall. But I don't count it in the same light as the other fighters since it doesn't have as many hit reactions, throws and weapons based fighting is a bit easier to convey effectively.

Tekken's new animations as of T6 are better than anything out there, but it's such a hodge-podge of new and old the the whole can look bad at times. DOA looks great with it's throws, reversals and hit stuns, but the striking itself look like marionette puppets devoid of actual physiological weight or accuracy. Virtua Fighter comes up second in every category as of R/FS, but the whole is more consistenly pleasing than the other ones.

On SC IV, you at least have an argument. SC IV's built in characters and stages are at least equal to VF 5 and depending on your taste one could make an argument that they are better. Sometimes I look at SC IV and feel that they are better and then somedays I look at VF5 and say theirs are better.

But Tekken 6, R U Kidding me, they still have edge detection, and clippling problems, All the girl's hand's R way to big [IMG] What's up wit dat? Asuka hand's r huge [IMG] some body parts that should be rounded are square! OMG and Yoshimitsu it hard to even tell what U R looking at. Compare Yoshimitsu in SC IV with Tekken and it should be clear.

    Doa C'mon maaann...

You might have a point on SC IV, but leave Tekken 6 and DOA out.. [IMG]

But the Character model's in UFC 2010 beat VF and SC IV in terms of realism. But in terms of artistic beauty, SC IV wins.

Spilled coffee on your shirt this morning?

Also, there is a noticeable difference between 1080p and 720p. Although I hear you'll need something a bit more current than a standard def TV to see.

I was actually going to argue against changing VF5's graphics, but after trying my hardest... I just can't do it! VF5:FS would sell a ton more copies if it looked more flashy like SCIV, DOA4, or Tekken 6. I may want VF to stay the way it is, but if Sega expects to sell millions of copies they have to find a way lower common denominator than the one they're currently using.

Fact: If Sega made VF5:FS look like SCIV, gave it gameplay more similar to SF4, and threw in a bunch of flashy super moves, they would sell at least 2 million copies.

Our objective now is clear. We must prevent Sega from figuring this out at all costs.

Because of of this has soooo much to do with the animation [IMG]
There is a lot they can do. they reanimated a lot of moves for R version B. All sega have to do is continue the process. The more they redo the better things will look.

    R U mad?

Sega's just figured out that they can add as much flash as they want without sacrificing the system's depth. And actually sell copies if they use a clever marketing campaign.

Actually, the tessellation of each geometric model (the number of triangles/quads it has to make it rounded/square) will typically influence the quality of the animation.

A 4 by 4 grid (of 16 quads); used to represent a handkerchief that is dropped on to a sphere will struggle to provide the same quality of cloth animation as the same handkerchief represented by 256 quads.
