Actually I would say James and Henry are just as dorky or "human-like" than Harry was in SH.

James is a pretty useless husband who doesn't really care much for his wife until she was taken ill. He's useless with firearms and gets out of breath after running only a little. Just as Harry Mason and completely opposed to the "superhumans" of RE who can run for hours and may never miss a shot.

Henry is much the same. He's a writer by trade (I think?) yet he's a nobody, a guy who cut himself off from others around him. He's not even spoken to Eileen properly before after 2 years of moving in and they're next door neightbours.

Only when he becomes unable to escape from his apartment does he realise they way he has become and he simply longs to escape from the apartment and experience the outside world again. These themes are common to Walter Sullivan as well, Henry and Walter are flipsides of one another.

In SH1 you could run forever without running out of breath, they added the slowdown running in SH2. I do really like 2 loads, but I still can't get passed the Pyramid Head thing in the hospital where you have to save Maria on hard, game still rules, even if it is generally 'too easy' for some, still love the atmosphere of it (as I do with all SH's).

i just comppleted silent hill 2 again, i was on the last level in the hotel, stupid me i saved the game after he watches the video of maria, I only just found out i could of got the book of crimson ceremony so i can get the rebirth ending in the hotel, now i gotta play through the whole stupid thing again, i love the game but ive completed it 4 times now on hard or extreme.

For me 4 was the worst hate it , i hate the idea of back tracking though levels you have already been through already, also the limited space in inventory was awful, like instead of holding 60+ammo clips all in one go, you could only hold like 10 at a time, thus taking up more room in yr limited inventory holder. So guns are pointless in the game.

Also the ghosts, wot a pain in the ass, do they damage you just by being near you??? and lastly looking out for eileen was a pain, its hard for her not to get damaged, and then to reach the final boss only to find out the more damaged she is, the quicker she feels like croaking it. I wasnt a happy bunny playing this

Could you tell me how you got passed the bit at the end of the hospital where pyramid head is chasing you down the corridor and you have to save Maria (on hard/extreme). I can only do it on Normal, just keep getting poked to death (oher) on that bit? Cheers in advance.

    Re: Silent Hill 4

Well, strictly speaking you're not backtracking thru "exactly" the same levels as you're going from one point to another in a way you couldn't in the first place. It also shows how all the realms are connected in Walter's head, due to the staircase that leads from each realm downwards, deeper into his subconcious.

And by the time of the second run thru or so, you can get each realm done really quickly.

The emphasis was never on guns in SH4 anyway...besides there are only 2 guns in the standard game (no shotgun or rifle) but loads of melee weapons which pretty much tells you you're going to rely on melee weapons as opposed to hording bullets and shotting things.

The ghosts aren't neccesarily a problem as long as you use a sword of obediance at the right time and know when to run.

I'll admit Eileen can be annoying at times but I enjoyed the story so much I could look past this shortfall.

If I remember rightly there's meant to be a glitch in the world with the snooker table (can't remember which exactly) where you push Eileen into a corner and when you get to the other side of the fence she can 'walk' through it, and you don't have to get any of the items for that section. I think it's just a programming error and it's in a FAQ on Gamefaqs.

The first time I seen the spirit's in the first person section it scared the shit out of me and I love the atmosphere in the game, I could watch someone play a SH game right through and not get bored. POPCORN TIME! LOL.

Yes, there is a well known glitch in Building World 2nd Time wherby you can make Eileen teleport from one end of the level to another (near the bottom of the lifts) pretty much meaning you can run through the level very easily.

Random tip, if you pick up the shabby doll from Walter and place it in your box you'll get the crying baby ghosts above the box. If you don't put it in the box or don't pick it up it'll never happen!

That was really creepy to have that happen. I figured that out the 1st time playing through when I said to myself ".... those look like the doll I picked up - WAIT..."

is this the really narrow corrider where theres only enough room for one person to run through??????,if so you just run away from pyramid head and try to reach the elevater, donbt worry about maria just keep running away from him,
i need to play through 4 again, i got the chainsaw but its so crappy, i think i should attempt ti run away from enemies rather then kill them. i prefer 3 myself, i liked the idea of it being a sequel to 1, its nice to see how the survivrs from thew first game carry on with there lives. and progress rather then them being in limbo for eternity. 3 is definately my fave. But sexy beam sux don't you agree????.

what is the best way to avoid eileen getting damaged??, i know not to equip her with the BS whip thing so she wont get involved in battles, realyl freaked me out when she started going into fits and hitting herself,
the doll thing, do i need to pick it up or can it be left alone??
Also ive heard of this glitch where u can recover eileens wounds with a holy candle in the cut scene with the umbilical cord?? have u tried that???

I've gotta say I agree with you Chris. SH4 had by far the best storyline, and the atmosphere was amazing. I liked the way in which you never actaully go to sleep, but everytime you come back through the hole, you wake up, and then at the end, you can go through the hole into your room in the alternate world, and then back through it to wake up in your room in the real world. It gives a very strong sense of dimished reality, and you never really know which part is a dream, which part is real or what the hell is going on.

Also, I personally prefer the idea of making use of Melee weapons, because in a real life situation, not only are most people inept when it comes to using guns, but they wouldn't even own one. Also, it makes the game more realistic because you aren't constantly finding boxes of ammo dotted about the streets and various levels, and you don't keep stumbling across different weapons, all increasing in power as you progress. In a real situation, you would probably only have something like a golf club, a cricket bat or, if you are lucky, some sort of sword.

I think three was the worst of the lot, having weak characters, relatively unoriginal/unimpressive monsters, and the whole environment seemed 'overdone' to me, everything was bloodied up or dripping with random crap, it was all too much and after about 20 mins of the game, the atmosphere loses it's effect.

I think the best feature that Silent Hill 2 offered wasn't so much the visual stimulus, but rather the audible ones. The sounds created in that game have such a huge impact (especially the static noise that the radio makes when the enemies are about). Plenty of times you can hear a noise in that game and it can make you freeze up to try and identify it's origin, even though it doesn't usually have one (the garden/courtyard in the prison is a good example(the bit where you put the three placards into the holes, undeneath the three nooses), because it is a large, open area and you can't really see anything. There aren't any dangers there but the sound effects used make it sound like something is creeping up behind you).
The noises that Conehead makes are effective too, the scraping of his sword along the floor, or the long droning siren noise that lets you know he is around really adds to the ambiance...

silent hill 4 was a novel enough idea. i liked the concept of the main protagonist being trapped in his room and that being used as a hub to explore the rest of the game.....however, it didnt take long to tire of the constant trips back to the room EVERY time you saved.

as for the room itself, the only interesting thing you could do in it was perve on the bint next door or watch the janitor constantly clean the corridors. untimately pointless.

    Gho:
Normally when I try to run to the elevator (on hard) she always dies b4 I reach it, I guess I'll just have to keep trying, just doesn't seem to work for me.

Set a roman candle on the floor and push eileen into it and she will cured slightly, I think you can rinse another one to competey heal her.

SH1 is still my fave, crap graphics and all LOL, but am replaying 2 and have forgot how good the atmosphere is, I think the combat sucks balls in it, but agree with Ev2 about the sound's and ambiences, really good.

SH3 is really good as well, although much more of a popcorn style game and there is LOADS of extra difficulty's to unlock, and costumes etc, and you have to love 'SEXY BEAM!' LOL. And the lightsaber, even though it sucks balls (along with the chainsaw in all SH's, it's always been a crap weapon in all SH's).

Sudden Death: LOL I've been so busy with work and it's been hard trying to find people to come see it with me as everyone else is busy with uni exams and whatnot etc...

    MAXIMUM: Actually there is quite a bit you can do in the Room itself;

    1. For the first half of the story it'll replenish your health just going back...so save all those health packs etc for the 2nd half of the game as this stops then.

    2. If you look out your peephole you'll see bloody handprints on the wall. These represent the 21 sacraments (kilings) that Walter is trying to perform. Each time someone is killed another handprint is added. Eileen is supoosed to be the 20th victim and Henry the 21st.

    3. Also you can see Walter looking into your room sometimes thru the peephole, as well as Richard, Sunderland (James' dad!) and Eileen doing stuff.

    4. If you look out the window, you can see the others who live in the apartment. When you meet Richard in the Building World, if you look into his room via the window you'll see him collapsed on the table in his room "asleep". After he dies his body will disappear.

    5. Using the radio you'll hear random reports of strange things that one of the makers of the game has been doing.

    6. Looking at the photos in the room will produce comments that link to all previous SH games.

    7. Coolest thing, in the VERY begining of the game, you're not playing as Henry but you're playing as Joseph Schreiber, the guy who lived there before Henry. You're seeing how the hauntings of Room 302 began thru the eyes of Joseph.

    8. If you keep inspecting the toilet, you'll eventually be told there is something in there. If you try get Henry to pull it out, he won't. Neither would Heather in SH3. Only James has put his hand down a toilet to get an item. This is a nod towards an ancient Japanese ghost story about the haunting of a toilet.

Ade: I think you mean Holy Candle, lol Roman Candle is the old term for Roman Cancel in GG.

G-ho: Eileen starts freaking out because she's getting possessed by Walter. Solely being around her is good for her. If you leave her alone for a while in a section by herself she'll start getting really unwell. The more possessed she is, the more battered and bruised she'll look. She'll also start saying some really weird stuff (which is a sign that Walter is speaking thru her).

When Walter is sat in the Apartment and places the Old Shabby Doll down, you can just leave it, don't pick it up. If you do pick it up and leave it in the item box the baby ghosts will appear. There is a rumour that if you have it with you in the final battle it weakens Walter but I've not really tested it out.

just finished sh4, not really that hard if you know where ur going, i decided to leave eileen alone by herself alot, she eventually got really bloody but i did the candle thing, amd it worked, very well.i got 2 endings so far, save eillen and her death.
next time i play im gonna leave the room possesed s o i can get the other 2 endings. But i only managed 8 star ranking. What facters affect your ranking??????.

about sh 2, you can shoot pyramid head to slow him down briefly, theres a corner you go past with a wired window, shot him through there, will slow him down a bit???.

To get the best Star ranking (ten big stars) you must:

    Do the game on Hard.
    Finish in under 2 hours.
Kill over 150 enemies (this includes leaches for easy numbers)
    Read all 52 memos.

Cheers G-ho, will try THAT SH2 bit later tonight.

Chris, I still haven't seen it, let me know if you wanna go AMEC or Printworks over the weekend to see it together.

I've only seen the best and worst SH4 endings, not the imbetween. I was pissed off there was no UFO ending in SH4, we WAS ROBBED!

Do you mean AMC Great Northern, near Bar 38 and over the road from Branigans? (i.e. next to Teasers)

If so it's good with me, I can meet you near the Sainsbury's Local or something and we can walk around from there. Need to check times tho.

    Would sat afternoon/evening be good?

Just checked, it's on at 2.15, then 4.50, then 7.20 this sat, you want to go?
