Running Peacock and Valentine. I like being able to choose your custom assist. I got some Peacock resets with Valentine's command grab as an assist.

I've played demo for a while, nothing special for me. I'm surprised the reputation is very positive although this game was only launched 24 hrs ago.

That's because the game's been featured at several FG events over the last year. Lots of people got to play it in advance, including myself. It has an amazing amount of polish for a DLC title. I truly hope the series can continue.

Oh, I got it. That makes much more sense now. [IMG]
Yeah, I think digital download is a really good idea such as FS. Affordable price can make it popular.

I think what can kill it for some people are the fans. A lot of "This is going to save fighting games!!1!" non-sense and what not. Game was waaaay over-hyped, but that's bound to happen with anything. I was on the fence about this game but decided to pick it up after playing the demo. I can see where this game is going too, but it's cool having a new IP, and the presentation is top-notch.

I'm actually approaching this game with the mind-set of VF, and it makes it not as daunting as I used to see 2d-fighters. However after practicing combos for an hour, I really wanted to get back to practicing situations in VF, to prep up for FS.

I mean, it's cute and all, and I'm sure I'll give it a shot, just to feel like I'm supporting the concept of new fighting IPs. I don't expect to get particularly into it, though. I'm more or less where Femto seems to be, mentally speaking.

Yeah, I'm of the conclusion that I still prefer KOF for my 2d fighting, even if it's KOFXIII (it's no 98, but it's still very good).

This game did a lot of stuff right though, so I don't feel bad supporting it.

I don't like the look of it, not played it though. Might play okay. I don't feel comfortable playing as little girls in fighting games at the best of times anyway. A game full of them seems...odd.

Whatever though, to each their own and all that.

I'll likely give it a go at some point.

Played this for a little bit the other day. Feels very responsive and looks pretty in comparison to anything Capcom has put out. My favorite character right now is Peacock and Double. I love odd characters.

    I suck at dial-a-combo fighters... :'(

Well, I'm not really good at ANY type of fighters, but I'm especially bad at these.

I'm disappointed in Skullgirls because the way I understood it, SG was supposed to have good tutorials to teach how to play and there were supposed to be other under-the-hood things to make the game easier for those who are new to the genre.
Sadly, I found the tutorials very lackluster, and I was left completely helpless.
Plus the "character guides" are nothing but movelists. No general guidance on what you should be trying to do with the character... But I suppose that everyone kinda plays the same.
I played around 10 matches online, I lost them all. I didn't just lose...I got completely butchered. Each time. By different people.

It made me realize that all 2D fighters are the same. If you played one before, you can play any other in exactly the same way. The transition is seamless.

Not only are combos crazy fast, the inputs are also pretty hard. It seems there's not much mind game, and hit checking doesn't even matter all that much, so you kinda just repeat the same sequence mindlessly like a robot until it finally works for some reason. At least that's how I understand it.
I guess I'll never appreciate 2D games, SG made it official.

The tutorials in game do a great job explaining the system engine and general 2D fighter gameplay.

I'll admit that its terrible that the game doesn't have a command list for any of the characters at this time. They are aware of it and have stated they hope to add it in a patch in the future.

If you want character rundowns the best place to checkout is the SRK Skullgirls wiki page

LOL! You couldn't be more wrong.

To me it sounds like you played this game for 20 minutes. What do you expect to learn in that short of time?![IMG]

If you have this type of mentality when FS comes out you are going to be DESTROYED facing people online![IMG]

Not completely, but somewhat agree, but with some differences of refinements and mechanics. I got tired of similar 2d fighting games that had a cliche obedience to the fighting games of Capcom or with a combination of the Sammy (Arc Systems?) fundamental templates.

I feel that the genre should return to being it's own course of diversity, instead of focusing on past popular/semi-popular titles as amounting to just being mostly copies.

I've changed my mind this game is pretty balln'. Valentine all the way. It feels fresh.

The tutorials don't help as much as they could. How exactly am I supposed to mount my offense? There's a tutorial that shows you how to defend against low stuff and a slooooow and obvious jumping attack that gives you a whole hour to react to it. It also makes you defend against Parasoul's overhead kick, which seems to be very unique because other characters don't seem to have non-jumping overheads.
So to me it looks like you need to keep jumping around and begin your strings the same way regardless of what happens and hope that the opponent somehow failed. Or you need to perform a crossup, which was never talked about in the tutorial.

I don't mind the lack of move lists in the game. What I meant is you get a movelist that they dare call a "guide" but no explanation is given, and some crucial information about some moves is not even included. (Painwheel's LVL3. Luckily I found the info ...somewhere... after digging for a while.)
I don't consider this to be a serious flaw of the game. It's just a personal disappointment because in my eyes it was perceived as the game that was meant to introduce new players to 2D fighting games.
I don't have that mentality in VF... When I get a beatdown, I often can't figure out why it's happening, but I usually stay for a while and try anyway.

Besides, high level VF is so goddamn amazing to watch. And I feel like I can understand a good part of what is going on.
But in 2D fighters? I notice people jumping around, and their combos work and I don't understand why. Then I try the game myself, get stuck in the corner and I can't get away. I don't even know when I even can get away.
Compare with VF, you're on the ground, you got kicked, and the other player is standing there rolling his thumbs. It seems like it's your cue to get up.
It also helps that the system pages here are immensely useful.

I indeed did not spend much time in Skullgirls, but I don't even know where to begin. Sure, the obvious part is to learn a 50 hits bnb combo, but I don't even understand how I'm supposed to apply it. Unless crossups is all there is to it.
But then again surely there's a little more to crossups than a plain "jump around and hope it does a crossup." ... But again, no info about that, and it seems to work the same way in every 2D fighters, so those who played other 2D fighters just do what they've always been doing.

I didn't expect anyone to actually agree, even if just partially. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who sees it that way.

I get the feeling that Valentine, Filia, and Parasoul are going to be the 3 most played characters. This'll evolve hopefully with the game though.

Obviously Plume you sound like you did'nt start out from a 2-D background.. When you feel like you can';t start a offense Use your defense.. thats the first rule.I haven';t seen not instant overhead like traps so far. No matter how slow a typical mix may seem in this game.. its still a mix up if its making you aware of it..This Game is a throw back to great days of tradition 2-D fighters and it should be supported. I like it very much and my daughters loves the cartoonish aspect of the characters. I wrote it off at first but there is fun to be had in this game until FS drops.

Yeah that's the case. I dabbled in some 2D fighters before but I never "got" it, I only understand how to play 3D fighters. I'm not blaming SG in any way though and I hope the game will do well.
Maybe I was just reading too much into it when they were enthusiastic while talking about tutorials, new players and ease of input in their videos.
