It's not like 3S went away you know....I played over 100 matches today online with Q and SAIII Ryu. Last weekend I had a few people over to my house and we had my 3S arcade machine on free play for some casuals. TheShend constantly uploads all of the latest 3S matches from Japan as do dozens of other YouTube/Nico/Zoome channels. 3S is going to be at SBO again this year (every year since 2003).

Just because Super Street Fighter Snore is coming out doesn't mean that the communities for ST or 3S have disappeared.

Damn son! And you invite no one from the NYCVF Crew? That's fucked up homie. Rodney invites people and he had no TV! We still got down playing VF5 mathematics! VF5 on paper>VF5 on 360.

    Wait, what? [IMG] "weakness"?

Aren't games, being entertainment, meant to be accessible "for all people"? What's wrong with system being simple and intuitive... "Here are the controls, now beat the other guy" is the challenge here, not at spending hours practicing some obscure, quirky game mechanic. Would chess be improved if you were supposed to use a crane machine to move the pieces instead of relying on strategy to win?

For whatever it's worth, the newest system seems to be working out just fine - people are buying, arcades are occupied 24/7 and the system is deep enough to keep the pros happy too. I'm sold [IMG]

Hakan is as ridiculous as I expected, Im less likely to get involved with SSF4 because of this. Whether he is a joke character who is not supposed to fare well is irrelevant, Ive never liked the idea of 'joke characters' in the first place. Maybe because 2d games and street fighter in particular doesnt allow room for creativity in the use of the characters.

    I think you're right.

I totally agree, joke characters shouldn't have place in SSF4, seeing as up to SF4 the series has always prouded itself on its dead-serious setting and...

...oh. [IMG] Maybe it's just not a series suited to all people's tastes after all, nothing bad with that of course!

So there is an interview with one of Capcom's special advisers, and he said this about the skill of their QA guys:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Let me just say, for anyone that doesn't know this, the people at Capcom QA are killer. People are like, "Capcom QA didn't even know about this." Capcom QA knows about almost everything. Not absolutely everything because a million great players playing together will discover things that QA didn't know about. But the QA guys are no joke.

This guy Raoh, who is a Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike player, made a name for himself on the competitive circuit and did very well in Japan. He did very well in EVO here in America. He used to work at Capcom QA and wasn't even in the top 20 players on the QA team.

The QA guys don't enter tournaments so that's why they don't have reputations on the street, but they are unbelievably good at the game. If there was a tournament of all of Capcom QA against players around the world - I don't know how many top players would survive to the finals against the QA guys. It would be a bloodbath.</div></div>

    Rest of the interview:

Do you guys think this is true? Do the really good players get taken out of the tournament scene to work on the games?

All the time, that's why you never see me playing Street Fighter 4 anymore. It has nothing to do with the game being wank.

Not always the case. I've worked in QA before. Even the best dudes can miss shit because they're so focused on the game at hand. They won't do "dumb random shit" that can cause bugs. QA is a delicate process, it does help if your engine is solid though.

Seth is a joker. I think i'll be giving this a miss. Just a few mismatches, but it's pretty balanced? Riiiighhht.

Oh, but according to this data here, he's pretty much right (linking it again in this thread but w/e):

    http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2008/oct/17/street-fighter-4-tiers-character-rankings/

Some characters have a slight advantage, but until bottom of D-tier it's all 4-6, 5-5 and 6-4, so deffinitely winnable with some skill - and now they are knocking Sagat, Ryu and Rufus down a peg or two as well.

It's almost as balanced as VF to me. I've seen players dominating arcades with Guile in Japan, and C.Viper players sweeping tournaments all over Sagat and Rufus backs. Sure, character differences exist, but I doubt there are many more "fair" games around.

SF4 is a textbook example of why balance isn't everything.

Eventhub's tier lists are so wrong it's hilarious.

Gen/Honda is not that low, Balrog/Blanka/Chun are not that high.

There's not that much of a discrepancy in the higher tiers (Though I agree with you on Gen after playing AsianTom). But Gen is missing too much + too bad he's losing his invincibility on his wall dive in Super. Poor guy [IMG] The matchup points they give seem pretty right to me though.
