So about that Super Street Fighter IV, eh?

Dude you are coming from the perspective of a Virtua Fighter player. That means you probably have a deeper understanding than 99.9% of people who play SFIV. When I say that casual players don't understand how defensive SFIV is it's because they don't. The majority of SFIV and SSFIV players are not competitive in SSFIV let alone any other game. They have no frame of reference to judge SFIV/SSFIV by. They don't realize that most other games are way more fast paced than SFIV.

Even if Daigo says that SSFIV is awful, he's still playing it every week at the arcade, and that's all that casual players care about.

 

I'd rather play SSFIV than play VF, simply because of assholes like EmpNova.

 

Go ahead. Though I doubt that you'll play more SSFIV than VF5R/FS over the next year. You say you like VF more than any other FG but I'd love to see you play an inferior game like SSFIV to spite me lol.

 

The last 3 pages in this thread remind me how Jigohro and I were talking to someone in the shoutbox about the reasons for liking the game. Ultimately it all came down to a simple thing: Most people (Yes, I'm not saying "ALL", don't you dare quoting me on that), who don't like SSF4, think that if you like the game, you're either a scrub or a kid.
In other words, you can't be serious about SF4 when you're a fighting game fan, playing any other fighter on a reasonable level.

Isn't that kinda harsh man? A majority of the players I know understand the game well enough to play matchups correctly, practice, plink like nuts, utilize option selects that I couldn't even explain, and play sagat lol

 

When I say majority of players I mean literally the pool of everyone, the millions, who bought the game (or in Japan who play it at the arcade). Not the majority of people who are on SRK or VFDC. Not everyone who plays SFIV/SSFIV is registered to SRK and knows about EVO or SBO. Ono is talking about the vast majority of people who have played SFIV at any level not being able to understand how defensive SFIV is compared to ST or 3S. People who play to win or play to compete in tournaments obviously know SFIV in depth. But the average person who isn't registered on SRK who simply plays on XBL or against the CPU probably wouldn't have the previous FG experience to realize that SFIV is a defensive game compared to most other games in the genre.

Just because SSFIV isn't primarily designed to be competitive doesn't mean that it won't be and that people can't compete in it. MvC2 was basically thrown together randomly and out of it emerged a competitive, yet extremely imbalanced, fighter. SFIV is essentially a safer version, where Capcom didn't make such an insanely random system, and tried to be as safe as possible with SFIV to make it have mass appeal. In their effort to ensure that nothing ridiculously broken or unintentional like the dozens of things in MvC2 they played it too safe with SFIV in my opinion which is why the game seems so slow and dull at high levels. MvC2 was designed for mass appeal but the system was broken all over the place. SFIV was also designed for mass appeal and Capcom played it extremely safe with the system but it lead to a dull game.

When Daigo, Sanford, Tokido, Choi, or Justin aren't playing SFIV then I honestly am bored watching the game. And casually playing SFIV bored me as well. Will I follow the game? Absolutely. I look forward to seeing what the first year of SSFIV is like at EVO and what stuff LordAborigineSFIV uploads of the Japanese arcade release of the game. But I won't be investing huge amounts of time in SFIV like I do with VF, ST, 3S, and CvS2.

Empnova you'd do yourself and us a lot of good if you'd just pipe down about how you don't find SF4 all that interesting and implying that it's "ruining" fighting games for you. You really do come off as an elitist jerk. Fwiw, I do agree on that score (SF4 is boring), but it's not worth wasting so many words on it, or ranting about how people don't enjoy your 'deep' game(s).

If anything the eSports community taking notice of SRK and etc. is far worse than anything SF4 could do, but that's a whole different issue.

Me, Marly, Griever and someone where talking about SSF4 and SF4 in general on the shoutbox. I've already had the chance to play the game and was both unsurprised and unhappy that that the game is still just the same thing.


I explained that and wee all said what we wanted to say and just let it be. Some people here can't seem to let others enjoy what they want to enjoy.

And as for SF4 being inferior compared to VF? Fuck that. There are no objectively good games.


I won't be getting SSF4, I simply don't like it. It isn't my cup of tea.

In fact those dudes you mention makes the game look boring half the time with fucking pokes and Exploits and playing way too safe. I've watch matches that did'nt even involve any of those mention and they were probably the best i ever seen. While i Respect Daigo fuck the rest. Tell one of them other to win a tournament using Guile then i'll respect something on them.


SF4 is a good game. it has its moments but its only a place holder till VF5:FS drops.

Until then EmpNova get a Gamertag and go play a video game or something and stop typing like you speak for the masses all the time.

Well I preordered SSF4 . No question . I sat down and played SF4 all the way through arcaded mode on hard the other day, and it reminded me why I even play fighting games at all. Watching the credits and listening to the remix of that iconic SF2 theme really renewed my fighting spirit, that nostalgia reminded me why SF2 was so great. SF2 wasn't the reason I took up learning the martial arts , but it sure inspired me along the way. Is SF4 as technically advanced and balanced as VF5? Hell no, neither is Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm or Dragon Ball Z Raging Blast, but they are still fun games.

SF deserves respect, because it redefined the genre. There was Yeir Ar Kung Fu, there was Karate Champ, There was The Way of the Exploding Fist, but no fighting game took over the game industry like SF2 did. Obviously I love VF more than SF , but I look at it as an evolution from SF2's base. If it weren't for SF2 , there may never have been a Mortal Kombat or Virtua Fighter.

 

Sf4 is serious i don't know what the hell everybody else was thinking. Super will be great. From what i can see im not going to get the dream combos i want with certain character but hey it has a pretty cool roster minus Hakan lol!!! The new onlne features look robust to keep us held over and theres nothing wrong with that. The netcode was pretty good so the lobby can only be improved.


Respect SF4 period. It brought Fighters back to the front in 2009. Super will do the same thing.
