Hi guys,

I'm actually leaving Scotland for California tomorrow on a 12 day business trip. We're going to be based 5 nights in San Fran and 5 nights Milpitas. How far is it to Plague's from Milpitas? I'll have access to hire car.

Even though I'm a self-proclaimed dunce at VF4 and haven't played for many months I still enjoy playing the game immensely. Would be a very cool to meet up for some VF while I'm over there as the trip will be very boring I think.

Oh, and I've met Shag before in NY back in VF3 days.....would be cool meeting you again dude if this works out!!

 

Ugh...I just Google earth'ed the journey from Milpitas to Riverside......403 miles......a 5 hour car journey!!

Ouch.....is there a bullet train service between hubs in California. Otherwise, how much would a domestic flight be roughly?

The info from <font color="blue">PhoenixDth</font> is excellent. Also, if you want to do the train thing, I found the direct link to schedule with Amtrak here. I recommend starting from a San Francisco station.

<font color="blue">Srider</font> made the drive from SF a few months ago for the last VF night. Here are easy driving directions from Milpitas for you...

680 North through Pleasanton, 580 East, 5 South for a LONG time, 210 East, 15 South, 60 East, Exit Pedley, turn right, left on Mission, right on Agate, left on Wild Pony Drive. Probably a seven hour drive.

If you fly to Ontario, I can pick you up. I thnk I'll be there to get Shag at around 10am on December 18th (I haven't seen his itinerary yet). You are welcome to sleep at my house, however, I have no couch space left for sleeping nor do I own a sleeping bag. There are motels (Motel 6) very near my house as well.

You know, I think I'll definately try and make this. After our spell in San Fran we're going to be stuck in Milpitas for 7 days and my other workmate has already toyed with the idea of flying to LA on that weekend. If that;s the case I can just hire a car and burn over to Riverside.

Best part is I should be able to claim back any train/air fares on our corporate credit card. A little creative accounting is all that's required /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi all, I'm now almost 100% certain I'll be coming. Situation is either myself and workmate will drive down Saturday and make a weekend of it, in which case I'll head over to Riverside from our hotel Sunday evening (my workmate dosen't play VF unfortunately so he won't be coming ) OR I'll head down myself on the Sunday, crash over, and return Monday.

Been speaking to some local folk from Milbrae at our conference and they're saying you can do San Fran -> LA in 5 hours on highway 5 if you drop the hammer. I've hired a nice big half truck for transport.....had it out on 101 and it seems really comfortable to drive. Looking forward to this little excursion actually - it's going to be a boring last few days so this will be a perfect distraction.

Plague, do you have a mobile or something I could contact you on in case I get lost? Also, what time should I aim to arrive at yours Sunday?

Also wanted to say, what an great place California is. Had a blast so far in San Fran and surroundings and the people are very friendly. Very impressed by the female talent in San Fran too, one of the highest concentrations of attractive females of any city i've been to i think /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Regarding driving: I'm 60 miles inland of Los Angeles. Depending what freeways you take, it could be 400 to 500 miles. This is the most direct route (the start is just Milpitas, CA - no specific address). The directions I posted before were simpler but they take you a little out of the way at first. I'd say to give yourself six to seven hours. You could do it faster (I would try to do it faster /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif* ) - the 5 freeway is a very straight shot and I also see people getting tickets since it's a perfect speed trap. Tough call.

*Once I drove 497 miles in 5 hours and 58 minutes (Reno, NV to Riverside). One solid hour of that was 100+ mph. I did it at night. It was exhilarating but very taxing.

 

Many thanks. PMs received and numbers noted. Cheers for those directions also, they seem the clearest yet. Don't worry, I'll be taking the drive at a reasonable pace and trying to enjoy it. Looking more likely I (or we) will travel Saturday and stay a night at hotel in LA - always wanted to see some of LA anyway. My gf's been before and has given me a good itinery of stuff to check out.

One more thing, please don't expect great or even good play from me. Hope there's a decent mixture of abilities at this gathering as I won't be keeping up with the pro players that's for sure.

I think Andy and I will attend for one night of gaming. With the baby, it's a stretch even for me to do that, so I'm thinking the night at AI will work better for me. That's monday right? I know I'd get to play more at Talis' house (and I've been dying to show him PGR3 /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) but I'd get sucked into a 5am all-nighter, and it's just not good for the family unit at this point.

Bryan: Thanks for checking in with news about you and Andy. You will both be missed on Sunday - remember you don't have to stay ALL night - tempting as it may be (Myke, Shag, MAXIMUM, all in one place - dude(s), I admire your fortitude).

MAXIMUM: No worrries about skills, abilities, being out of practice, etc. I've always appreciated everyone's attitude regarding different levels of play. I'd be VERY suprised if anything discouraging took place.

Here's hoping to see all of SoCal - Dre, Exile, Ken_I, KTallGuy, Type_tenchi, LPC73, Mike90210, Sol_Fizz, Weslyzm, Joon, Tomhilfiger, and everyone else - new players at AI included - on Sunday. This is going to be good.
