SoCal VF Party July 21st, 2006!

As far as I know, I haven't done anything to Shang to merit the kind of written abuse I've been getting over the past couple years...joke or no. After a while, it is just not cool. Him backing out after I've made my own commitments is also not cool.

If anyone knows why he has a beef with me and wants to give me some indirect feedback, I am more than willing to listen. Send me a PM or let me know this weekend. Hell if Shang wants to give me some real, constructive feedback about my behavior that offends him, I will also listen. If I am in the wrong, I will definitely apologize.

But if this is all a joke...I think I've made it plain that I'm tired of it and that I want it to stop.

Exactly, and shang owes nobody other than ice-9 either, so i dont know whats your indirect beef with shang. I even wrote even with his VFDC reputation (IRL aside), you're heavily biased in a matter about an event that you are not even attending. The conflict belongs to them alone. All this external hype, people creating rules, dates, time, posts, frontpage - is nothing more than hype, by again people not directly involved. Either you bought into it, or you just want an another excuse to hate shang like so many other people on this board. Either way, I always figured you to be the more rationale type to not let these external sources influence you. Really what is the point in begrudging shang at a time like this? Also again, I dont see why shang owes anybody their guilty pleasure of a deathmatch if he continues to get badmouthed at every turn. Im glad he canceled, because this is just ugly.

I don't hate shang.

Shang stirs shit, creates mass noise, is openly antagonistic to others all the time. If people "hate on shang" its not undeserved even if (and here's the kicker) he--and others--believe it is all in good fun or a joke.

The conflict is between Ice and Shang but since Shang posts/asks others to post on a public board it becomes all access.

Money matches are a bad idea. conflict over a video game is a bad idea.

If Shang lost money because he purchased a ticket and then backed out then I wish it were otherwise. Jeff, also put up cash for a plane ticket. The situation sucks but was avoidable.

My beef with shang is not centered around this conflict, I don't like the way he tries to push peoples buttons. I choose to point out that to expect anyone to not mock someone who has made a practice of mockery is misguided.

my feelings on this whole thing can be summed up thusly: "too bad." That's as much emotion as I give it. text without tone is a bitch and I am ever at fault for choosing harsh words but I am satisfied with my initial post. I think your defense of shang was bullshit and I wanted to call you on it.

Honestly, if I'm in Boston...Shang, his girlfriend, me and my wife will have a blast. He and I have already agreed on this.

I agree with this 100%, and I am glad to find out that somebody on this website share this kind of mindset with me.



After all this "Shang vs ICE-9 money match thing" went down to the drain, as the one who felt negative about this thing from the get go, I will speak up what I felt about this thing.


Pho(Alex) just said that he's glad that Shang canceled the trip because now this is just ugly, but I thought it was very ugly from the get go.


About 4 or 5 pages before when I posted about how I feel about this money match, somene responsed that when Shang and ICE show up it will be all laughs and people will have a great time. Wrong. I didn't believe in that for couple of reasons.


There was a simliar situation in the past.I remember the Shang vs Shou at Evo 2k4 clearly. There had been even bitter than ICE vs Shang flames going back and forth on the internet before they met up at Evo2k4.


When Shang finally saw Shou, he gave him a bear hug right after he saw him.Knowing what has happened online and how much Shang seemed to hate Shou, the scene confused me to the no end.


And then, there was this popular belief of Shang's just like that online and there was not really a hatred towards Shou from Shang. I even started to believe the popular belief of "Shang's a super cool guy in IRL and just acts like a that online."



Time flew by, and I went to Boston about a month ago for a family trip. I met up with Jerky, Hyun, and Shang, and Shang and I briefly talked about how he hates ICE-9. I asked him why he says the things he does online towards ICE-9, and ,and he said that he hates ICE-9 because he's got too much ego. Then I thought to myself, "OK, that's fine if you think that way it's not like you will meet up with him in the near future."


That was the time when the talks of the money match hasn't been brought up yet, and I felt that Shang genuenly hates ICE-9.

Time passed by, and the talking about the money match got brought up with all the extraordinary hypes and the promotions. I believed that it was going to be ugly recalling the conversation I had with Shang
IRL. Some people believed otherwise, but I felt that it was not going to be all laughs, and I didn't want to see that ugliness to happen. I am glad Shang canceled his ticket.


On the flip side of this thing, I didn't want to hear that Shang hugged ICE-9 right at the moment just like he did to Shou. OK, maybe not to that extent again, but to find out everything was just fine between Shang and ICE-9 because it happened in IRL again and they were face to face. After hearing how Shang hates Ice-9, I'd feel befuddled if I hear that Shang went up and hugged ICE-9. But, I've seen it happening already at 2K4.



Alex and Freddie, I believe that friends backing up a friend is great, but being rude and practicing insanity towards people doesn't deserve much support . Shang's continuous misbehavior has gotten old long time ago, and honestly I didn't evenn feel comfortable around him this time when I met him IRL. He was being nice and cool, but the image he created online was in my mind, and for that I couldn't feel at ease around him.


Shang, if you are really a cool person, you should stop acting like a mad child online. On the other hand,if you really are the one you portrait yourself as online, just be like that IRL, too. I'd have less problem with it cause that would mean you be yourself both on and offline.

Maddy, ive never officially supported shang in this match, but rather disgusted at how people act towards shang in conflict they are not involved with. Two wrongs dont make a right.

Well, I think he badmouths Shang because he has beef with him. And even though the beef is not centered around the conflict - it could still include it.

Let's drop this Shang issue since there's no point talking about it anymore. We are all aware of what's going on and all of us have in our own minds our own perspective on this issue. Let's not publicize it since it only reflects negatively on all of us. We're all adults now and let's behave that way even on vfdc. Getting stired up yourself and badmouthing back just makes things worse. None of us are 100% innocent, so let's just keep these kinds of things to ourselves.

I think making negative assumptions about how people would behave IRL creates a bigger rift in the community, and even a bit distasteful in my opinion.

I don't buy the "it's ok to be an ass online if you are cool in real life" argument either. I don't like the idea that people can feel justified to make a fool out of the forum users just because it's on the internet. If we are giving you due respect by taking you seriously, it's only fair that we get back the same treatment. This idea also applies conversely. Just because someone doesn't want to behave doesn't mean you shouldn't. I think the fact that Myke and others has made it clear that Shang's behavior is not welcomed here is sufficient. We don't need anymore judgment on Shang because I think he has made it public enough for people to get an idea what kind of image he is projecting. It's his own problem, not ours.

 

i dont even know how this IRL got so blown out of proportion, i slightly mentioned it AND put that argument aside, because i know people cant be unbiased about this, and continued the arguement relative to VFDC only. I sometimes wonder if people really read the forums or just scan for just what they want to see.

anyways two wrongs dont make a right.

Exactly.

 

I don't mind the money matches, its just the fact that the bet was set so high. If there both rolling in the money then fine, but it sounds like both are pretty much average income. Smaller matches like $1.00 to $5.00 are ok with me. Unfortunately I will not be able to make it to this event due to circumstances but all who attend should enjoy Plague is a great host.
