Yup, would the added costs of having diffirent voice actors be offset by the number of people that were on the fence about buying VF5 due to the voices? I doubt it.

As for the other question, I make video games /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Srider, VF has had voice changes all throughout the series, one of my favorite changes was Brad. Not that the Evo voice was bad (some phrases were corny, though) but the new voice he's got on VF5 is way better.
I could have sworn I posted this already... hmmm.

So if VF had changed the voices....(the degree that you think constitutes a change) so why are people still complaining?

See, change isn't always for the better.

Lol, they are still complaining because the changes they made were rather small or in the wrong areas.

i.e. They improved Jacky's, Wolf's and Brad's voices which is great.

But (other than Jacky), did these characters really need these updates? Especially compared to Lion?

And then there are the quotes. I mean, they're still pretty damn bad. Sure they improved on some, but the majority are pretty shitty.

Then, the sound effects. They hardly really changed these.

So, while they improved some things, there is still a lot of work to be done (not to mention the extra animations needed for the new size differences). This is a good step in the right direction, a small step, but a good step nonetheless.

For better or worse the sound effects are different - noticeably different. Some will say they sound like VF3, but I don't think so as these sounds definitely have a more of a chewy thwack to them. They are especially exaggerated on poking characters, and attacks (Lion mainly).

Is there really something wrong with the SFX? I personally like them a lot. I like the shotgun sound when Akira hits someone with his single palm /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Do you want a more 'realistic' sound? Because honestly, the sounds of two people punching one another aren't really that loud or interesting to listen to. VF5's hit sounds are useful for confirming hits and stand out above the music, and they sound 'kungfooey' enough, IMO.

Unless you want like, the sound of an explosion every time you punch, in which case I recommend Tekken or something. (exaggeration, but semi true).

Ah the fabled "Gun" sound effect. This is very much a legacy sound effect I'm glad they brought back for Akira. I'm with you on this one.

my complaint isn't that Lion's voice annoys me, it makes me laugh, but that he and brad don't speak their native language, ie French and Italian, haven't heard Blaze yet, so can't comment on that, but he should speak Spanish. And while we're at it, give Jeffry a little Aussie twang

Are you serious? Is "change" really that scary to you (and whoever else may chime in)?
How is changing the voices NOT a good change?
And if everybody is complaining about Lion's and Jacky's voice and I point out how Brad's Shun's voices have changed, how has the change that we are complaining about already been addressed?
    It hasn't.
You said that the voices can not/should not change because VF is a franchise and it would not make sense, I brought up a point that proved your statement wrong, no offense.
Furthermore, the argument wasn't just about audio changes but visual and style changes that would draw in more consumers.

Changing cosmetics isn't a gauranteed sell. It may help, but it's just silly to over simplify this to:

    sytle + new voices = \o/

People will still have to learn the game and overcome whether they give a damn about getting better or not. When a new VF comes out sales spike with new players only to have them drop off like flies after they realize they don't want to put in the necessary commitment - this draw in curiousity is due to aforementioned changes to style, voices, etc.

What I'm trying to say is Sega has already tried this tactic folks. It's nothing new. I am in agreement with Srider about how far Sega can go before VF is no longer VF... you simply can't risk alienating the people who've supported you since day one.

So the point that you brought up..... is that VF's voice and sound have been changing since VF1? or is your point now saying that nothing has changed? If it has been changing, the complaints did not stop, and it shows that change doesn't change anything. If it hasn't been changing, then why do you think Brad and Shun's voices are now magically better?

Visual wise, VF has been changing obviously for the better. I think we are all too familiar with how far that has done for the number of players.

I'm not afraid of change btw, I'm just saying that you need to stop looking at things from the perspective of a few complaints and individual users. There are enough reasons that AM2 have aside from aesthetics why they make VF5 or any iterations the way it is. They are not necessarily right in the whole scheme of things, but what are you going to do about it? Even if I agree with you or disagree, the game is not going to change from the current form. I'm merely making it obvious that changing the voices is not going to impact how well the game sells.

I think blasting consumers with ads will boost sales much more than changing the voices. Who knows, maybe the game is memorable because the voices are the way they are......

I guess we will just agree to disagree on the subject of change.
VF2 was a big hit in JP (of course) but it was also a hit here in the US and I think that one of the reasons for this was the look feel and sound of VF2. It wasn't just graphics and gameplay that made that game such a success in the arcade scene (which I know is dying in the US) but VF2 had a very appealing style, the kind of style that appealed to serious and casual gamers alike.

I know that VF2 was way less complicated than all the other VF's after but it WAS visually captivating, it STILL has great music, the sound effects were awesome and the voices were NOT annoying. Even the character quotes were good.
I want VF6 to capture the eyes, ears and hearts of US gamers the way that VF2 did, and I know that SEGA can do it.

BTW this: "So the point that you brought up..... is that VF's voice and sound have been changing since VF1? or is your point now saying that nothing has changed? If it has been changing, the complaints did not stop, and it shows that change doesn't change anything. If it hasn't been changing, then why do you think Brad and Shun's voices are now magically better?"- Srider
is not going to confuse me.
    You said: voices havent changed.
    I said: voices have changed.
You said: If they have changed then changing voices does nothing.
I say: They havent changed the RIGHT voices.

Nobody complained about Brad's voice but they changed it anyway. Now if they had changed Lion's and Jacky's, that WOULD help lure in people who's ears bleed when they hear Lion's irritating, annoying voice.

They COULD try to get feedback from US VF players on quotes for VF6.
Just ask the "average" US gamer what sounds cool and what doesn't, what would you say at the end of a match?
You said: "I think blasting consumers with ads will boost sales much more than changing the voices. Who knows, maybe the game is memorable because the voices are the way they are......"-Srider

How many people here love the sound of Jacky's/Lion's voice? How many people here say "Now there's some voices that I always want to remember"?

Instead of quoting.. I'll just reiterate this old and tired argument.

Whether or not the sounds and visuals of any VF is appealing is subjective. Just because YOU think VF2 is appealing doesn't mean that other people think so. In fact, I bet that most people here would agree that subjectively, VF5 looks are appealing for the most part. So this argument of "most people hate lion and Jacky's voice" is not valid unless you really do poll the VF user base. Go ahead and do it, and then mail it to Sega.

Not just anybody at Sega, you have to submit your results in Japan and send it to AM2 specifically. Because Sega doesn't make VF, AM2 does. English won't cut it because people at AM2 doesn't live in the US, don't know English, and they only care about what Japanese players think about their game that they made for the Japanese players.

It's so laughable to say that "they can get feedback from US VF players...." Like I've said before, why should they only change Lion and Jacky's? I don't like Pai's, so should they change hers as well? Japanese players think the Japanese voices are stupid, so should they change them all to French or something? You thinking Lion and Jacky's voices are annoying is no big deal in the whole scheme of things.

I look forward to your poll results, I bet the overwhelming majority of people will simply say they don't give a shit about the voices.

Oh I wasn't trying to confuse you. Your statement makes it apparent that you believe that AM2 made changes to the voice, but they didn't change the right voices. Well, see what I mean? Any change that they do will most likely not be the kind of change that YOU want. I bet Lion and Jacky will sound even more annoying if they decided to change their voices.

Just got back from AM2 guys. Here are the new quotes slated to be released with PS3 VF5:

Lion: You knucklehead! You almost dislodged the vibrator out of my ass...
