A new trailer showing off the different all stars moves...and it seems even Jacky is so excitied he uses [6] [6] [+] [K] while driving. I hope one of his taunts is the Somersault.

I'm still such a noob with Akira, so i can't tell if thas his body throw or one of his 3 hit moves?

Either way it looks like this game is picking up.

    This.

Anyway, game surprisingly looks alright. But you can't help but think "why"? "Why not give us better Sonic games"? "Or port VF5R"?

I just don't get it. Count on Sega to always do stuff nobody asks for.

Because as long as it still sells good to kids, SEGA never needs a "better" Sonic game, just a marketable one. And don't let the new Sonic 4 fool ya, now they just wanna make a game for the "Big Kids" or "Kids at heart"...andk ids don't know any better. [IMG]

VF5R... well we're working on that [IMG]

tried the demo, played a little too much cause i cant seem to get to 1st place wtf! hehe. anyway, was very dissapointed with the gfx, cause...

this game is NOT running at 60fps (for console, yay PC!)! more like 30, sad. would look so awsome in 60...

Yeah Sal I couldn't figure out for the life of me what this game is not running at 60fps. Hopefully it's just a demo thing! Oh and I couldn't get first either [IMG]

It did...you just don't want to hear it.

I know it's sad that SEGA only uses Sonic as a way to fund their better games through mediocrity but it's true, and hey, while SEGA keeps giving crappy SOnic games, they use the money to make stuff like VF5R so there's that.

Game looks solid, but there are so many great games coming out at the same time I'm just not sure when I'll be able to pick this one up.

I played the full version today. First characters I had to unlock were Jacky and Akira of course!!!

Looking at Jacky's and Akira's stats they could potentially be the best characters in the game. They have poor acceleration and handling so hard to master(Kind of like VF characters) Good homage Sumo.
When you do a super star attack Akira body checks the car, while this is happening Akira's VF5 track plays. Too bad it wasn't his his VF2 track.
The game is good fun I haven't tried multi player yet.

Does anyone know if the released 360 version got the enhanced graphics of the ps3 version?

I played the release version on ps3 the other day in one player, two player and three player split screen and was really impressed with the detail in the graphics.

The two player split was slightly nicer than the single player of the 360 demo, gauging by the lighting and geometry on Sonic's car.

The 3 player split also looked very good; probably as good as Mario Kart Wii in single player and plenty of detail for proper local player gaming on a 200” projection screen (wall).

Hopefully the playability will hold up for a couple of months gaming; or at least until ModNation racers arrives, we've been looking for a true successor to Mario Kart Double Dash for too many years now.

The couple of hours I had with the game were fun and I'm now considering buying my own copy, but until a full road test is completed in 4 player split, I won't know if it is worth the money.

The main problems I can see with this game at the moment are the heavy loading times, particularly when switching courses in 4player, and the lack of menu design for selecting a map quickly (20 presses later, you reach the Monkey Target track).

Also, does anyone know if the 360 version allows installation to the hard disk? And if so, does this improve the loading times between maps?

  15. Re: Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing...staring Jack

i agree, the menue structure could have been done better. still, this remains to be a better game as i'd expected. it may be a mariokart rip off, but (for me) it's a good one.

installing it to hard disk does improve loading time, but not drastically. saving still takes the same time.

i love the time trial function in this game, as the drifting is just as smooth as in OutRun online arcade, but easyer to start by just holding the LT button down. you can release and re hold the trigger to boost trough long corners :-D. and bikes can do wheely's to boost on streight ways.

Re: Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing...staring Jack

Unfortunetly, our favorite fighters are kinda of a dissapointment in this racer IMO. Now while that is good homage by Sumo to let them be an advance car to master, they still wind up being significantly weaker than the others, especially Ryo and..ugh, Shadow [IMG] According to some win/loss ratios, Jacky and Akira are low-tier....that is something I never though hear ever.

The All-Star attack isn't as impressive as the trailer suggests: Sure, you get a great boost and you can ram people with it, but it is waaaayy too short so it barely makes differance. And of all the songs, why did they use the boring VF5 TEMPLE theme. They could have gone with his VF2 song, the VF3 or 4 intros, or how bout Akira's VF5R theme which is cooler. Ya know what would be much cooler: Using any of Jacky's theme, since HE IS THE DRIVER and his songs are suited for racing anyways. On a personal note, I understand why they use Akira, since he is the mascot, but he is boring, he doesn't even say anything during the races and the one thing he's useful at doesn't do well here. I wished they could have used some of the more outlandish characters and they could have more useful moves.

Kage - Kage does his dropkick and he acts like a Bullet Bill, mowing down everyone as only the first ninja to become an excecutive manager of a game company can do.

El Blaze - El Blaze acts like an Star Power and temporarily makes Jacky an invincible...................................weapon.

Lau - He just does his [8] [+] [P] to random stomp on anybody in the front. oh Yeah!

Venessa - She would act like Akira, only using her [6] [+] [P] [+] [G] to hit it 3 times so... it's better. And she's prettier than Akira.

Wolf - WOLF. GIANT SWING. WITH A CAR. [IMG] Think of the possibilities.

My only happiness I can say is that I enjoy hearing Jacky being Jacky throughout the race and the car is not that bad to handle. Hoping one of the DLC would switch Jacky's car with the Hornet and race through Daytona USA. ROOLLLLIIING STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRTT!!!

Re: Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing...staring Jack

I completely disagree on your assessment of the boys(Jacky & Akira) in the car, it has the fastest, or one of the fastest combinations of top speed and boost. It is more akin to the Bowser Bus or The Train in Mario Kart Double Dash (on cube); they were top tier and only bettered by the Parade kart.

Granted the bikes do have an annoying (trick on ground) advantage, but they shouldn't be in any karting game(imo) and neither should tricks; but even so, the game feels easy on many tracks, when racing with Jacky & Akira. The attempt at a two tone speckled paint effect on the car looks great on the PS3 version.

When it gets near to the finish line their three stage boost should out perform anyone else's. Yes the car is twitchy, but so was The Bowser Bus and The Train.

As for the All-star power up, it is to early for me to comment, I haven't seen it enough times, but moving up to the next set/s of Grand Prixs (by difficulty) will fix that.

The game is much better than reviews are giving it credit for; especial for how good the three, four player split screen experience is; and the ability to turn off catchup, the commentator, the AI and the All-star weapons.

Dodging and blocking attacks doesn't feel quite right yet; coming from Mario Kart, Blue shell(Spinney), Red shell or Green shell dodging background, but everything else is going to tide me over until ModNation Racers arrives, hopefully that will have the delayed impact preview, like double dash, to allow a boost dodge before the hit.

To overcome the tedium of waiting for loading, I try to think up some of my own less kind “Sonic Says...” statements; it helps, but the loading times would never have been approved by Nintendo's Mario Club.

I've been told you can't use the superstar attacks in online mode. What i'm mostly interested in is the TT times. Some of those monkey ball stages have tons of shortcuts. Where you skip corners to fall to the next level.

Actually its a nice touch to use the Ferrari(Outrun,VF = AM2). I've noticed another cool thing, when you drift it makes the old school turning sound from the original outrun game.
