My CaS characters in Soul Calibur 4 are Xiangfeng(Soul of Xianghua) and Marisa(Soul of Talim). /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbs_up.gif

Re: Soul Calibur for PS3 or 360?

    Problems I have with SCIV:

    Single Player

    1. Quick time events in story mode are no more.

    2. Story mode is short and linear.

    3. The A.I (even when set to edge master) is incredibly dumb.

    4. No alternate endings.

    5. Chronicles of the sword was removed.

    Multiplayer

    1. Everyone uses Kilik, Misturugi and The Apprentice.

    2. I can win by repeating three moves. (this will sort itself when people get better and/or idiots move on)

    3. There are more people playing Special Vs online than standard vs.

    4. The vast majority of people online don't sidestep. Ever.

    5. Yoda vs Yoda is just fucking stupid.

    6. People don't block low. Ever. (Raphael's 2A+B wins)

    7. People don't repel, parry or ukemi.

    8. The game is still terribly unbalanced. (I didn't expect much to be honest)

As you can see, the majority of my problems are with the community rather than the game.

I'm sure most of my problems will disperse with time. However I don't doubt that they will surely give rise to new problems when people get more serious and character balance becomes a bigger issue.

So with that said I'm going to go learn how to play as Triple H.

    No wait, I mean Rock.

Fellow Raph Player Seid? Heh, people don't know how to deal with poking or getting stabbed in the ankles. Hilarity ensues.

    Raphael owns gnomes.

Online you can win with 6BBB and 2A+B alone.

I've rarely been able to utilise preperation mixups due to people spamming attacks like nobodies business. It annoys me a little because when I do come across a good player I need a few games to get into the zone.

How do you think Raph is compared to his 2 and 3 incarnations?

Although Soul Calibur 3 wasn't as good as 2 I liked Raphael in 3 so much more.

His ability to launch fools has been practically destroyed in SC4 which bugs me.

Yeah, I've decided the game is fun and the online is pretty good (not too laggy at all.) I had a BUNCH of great games last night in ranked mode. Being a VF'er starts you off a million miles ahead of all the other players out there who are just mashing buttons. The game is mashy but a good player can beat a masher no problem (a la VF.)

My <span style='font-size: 14pt'>Lizardman[/size]</span> skills are second to none! As soon as I got the hang of the game and his moves I ripped off a 10 in a row win streak. Now that I am more familiar with the game, I definitely recommend Soul Calibur IV pretty highly. I've had a lot of fun with it so far...

I finally ran into a couple douches today.

1 was a Yoda player in ranked that more or less used the saber dive every other moved, talked a lot of shit, and then told me I was cheap.

The 2nd was some 14 year old kid whose Yoshi I beat using the same flowchart and couple moves with Raph over and over cause, hell, it was the best way to beat what he was doing and he wasn't figuring it out anytime soon. Kid talks shit, says I'm cheap, and says I think I'm good because that's all I can do. When I mutter on the mic that it's people like him that'll ruin this game for people, he says I'M the reason the game's ruined. Kid doesn't understand that if he's good, he should be able to deal with cheap BS.

Oh, to be back on a Namco property. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Re: Soul Calibur for PS3 or 360?

I was using Astaroth today (who, by the way, owns) and I got me some abuse!

To begin with, the guy said he would smash my face in, in real life for using the same moves. So I sent him a message saying: <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">GG. Just so you know there is a block button, it's the green one, with the letter 'A' on it. No need to thank me for my advice, I enjoy helping out new players! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif</div></div>

Obviously I was being a dick towards him for his words over xbox live.

    He replied with:

    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">kid im better than u lmfao ur a joke</div></div>

I retorted with something along the lines of "But I beat you"

    Him:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">u used the same move like 6 times. and u cant blok that attack when its used multiple times lol. like i said ur a joke</div></div>

I went on to explain that the move I was using could easily be beaten by anyone who had a shred of talent. 1A(B) with Astaroth is not a hard move to beat, right? Not to mention he was using Starkiller and done nothing but mash forward and B the whole time.

    Anyway, he came back with:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">ur trashy and i guarantee ur horrible at everything BUT button mashing..like all the rest of em lol</div></div>

    And then:

    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">like cod4 or h3. ur a fake. u have no skill</div></div>

Then he chose to respond to my question of how I managed to beat him, although he was apparantly better than me:

    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">bcuz i was fuckn u up n u got scared to lose n used the same move 6 times...button spamming isnt hard genius</div></div>

I, once again, said how easy the move was to beat to which he confusingly replied:

    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">ur trash..go check out the movelist u joke</div></div>

When he sent this message I was in the middle of typing one saying that I had never played cod4 and was confident I could beat him in Halo 3, given that I've been playing the game competetively since Halo 1.

    His reply:

    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">so 1v1 me im positive ur awful</div></div>

So, somehow we ended up fighting over Halo. Which is obviously his game of choice given the Bungie avatar and everyone on his list playing Halo (who are all crap btw).

He re-challenged me to a game of SC4 which I declined owing to him not being good enough to polish my axe. I haven't blocked his messages but I'll make sure to kick his ass again at some point.

On a more unrelated note, Astaroth beast the CPU with ease.

Re: Soul Calibur for PS3 or 360?

Most of the people that play SC don't defend regardless and even if they are good they will base their game on their offense just like VF. That problem will exist with any fighting game regarding the vast majority of games in general. I would rather sidestep as my primary defense mainly and I quickly find myself beating most people using basic sidestepping attacks and throws unless they show the ability to break this strategy. I have all but fell in love with Xianghua and improved faking abilities over what she had in SC3, I now know she will be my main from now on in SC4.

How are Xianghua players online anyway for the most part anyway. I don't have online access so I can't see it for myself.

Are you serious? VF5 is my favorite fighter and I think that VF is the best fighting series out, but VF5's online is lacking to say the least. The fact that there aren't any lobbies holds it back from being a special online experience. SC4's online set up is better. TekkenDR set up is better. (even though it's not very stable). If they do infact bring VF5r to consoles it BETTER have lobbies so a group of friends can play instead of just 1 on 1's. That's so lame.

SC4&DOA4's lobby system sucks balls. If wanna play some games online I want to play NOW. Not spend most of my time WATCHING other people play or having to spend time on looking for a lobby with a decent connection.

    VF5 online >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SC4&DOA4.
    1vs1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lobby.

Hmm I was considering developing a strat for Taki or a few other chars and putting it on GameFAQS, but I think these SC4 players dont deserve it.

The lobby system is just an option for player match.
Ranked Match is much better IMHO. It is always 1 on 1 and you can choose an opponent from the list (if you don't choose quick match).
The competition is very good. If somebody has lvl60 or higher it means he is really good.
    Lvl70 = dan10/Master/Defender from VF5 IMHO

Re: Soul Calibur for PS3 or 360?

so far the game has been fun for me its imo a nice change of pace from playing vf, even though its the same bs everyone picking the same characters!! however i havent played a ton of vaders or the aprentass as i thought i would thank god 4 that.

does anyone have the ps3 version? it would be nice to play my vf peeps also considering SC has been a playstation game up until recently is it possible that the true die hard SC players would be on the playstation so far the people ive been playing online have been really good at mixing it up with thier combos and the games havent been laggy despite the fear that because PSN is free u get what u pay 4! hope 2 play some of u soon
