Of course it's difficult to deal with. It blocks everything. You're not supposed to be able to do that. I haven't seriously played SC since SCII, so I can't say for sure exactly how bad this is to deal with, but it seems hard for me to believe that it wouldn't more or less break the game. I've been sort of reading the feedback on this game for a while now, trying to decide if Namco made something worth investing my time into. Right now, it's not looking good. I'm at least holding off until this nonsense is patched.

I couldn't get it to work. I'm either doing it wrong or it was patched out? More testing is required, but for the moment it's easier for me to just jump those pesky lows (Natsu [IMG]) the normal way.

I'm seeing some amazing customs online. What's up with the whole naked dude with erect penis thing though?

I think you listed some of the things that make me like the game actually.

Im just a noob messing with the game I bought couple days ago (Im a pretty casual player in all fighting games these days), but so far SC5 feels like it has somehow moved towards virtua fighter 5 im terms of gameplay. I don't know if its about reduced movelists, throws being made stronger, changes to sidestep or what, I cannot put my finger on it.

One aspect of it could be that they have made guard impact use this.. whatever they call it I call it 'super-meter'. I know old calibur-fans must be mad about it, but I was annoyed at the abundant g-impacting in previous caliburs. Now SC5 feels like I can concentrate on the basics more and have easier time learning the game while playing other players in VF-style.

I told Marly that namco decided to introduce capcom-supers into the game, with most of the same aspects. Invulnerability, freeze frame when they start, comboability, and even their inputs are reminisccent of Capcom. Ive already eaten quite a few 'random supers' at wakeup. Quite blatant rip-off but its quite understandable since theres only two fighting game developers in the world these days. I think these new critical edges actually fit nicely into the game. Im having a good time trying to utilize mine.

EDIT: Oh and they introduced what is essentially "Ex-moves" too. The brave edges.

In any case, so far soul calibur 5 has felt very enjoyable to play to me. The gameplay feels 'faster' and 'sharper', I feel like sidestep works roughly like I expect it to which is rare in a namco game. There is still the usual namco bullshit in the game (Natsu cough), but I dont feel overwhelmed by it at the moment. Maybe they have reduced that along with the reduced movelists.

The online code seems very good. Ive so far only played ranked within europe, but lag hasnt bothered me too much. I know I dont have enough knowledge of the game to notice small amounts of lag/latency, but still. The online mode has lobbies in player matches, ranked mode and everything.

This really feels like a fighting game I can spend time with. Im just a noob in SC5, but I like the game so far.

The thing is, just guard seems like it will be even better than guard impact. Once people get the timing down perfectly, anything other than a handful of safe moves may be a massive risk.

@Marlyjay: Yeah, I guess it will [IMG]

    Aris' just guard tutorial

Im not sure there are 'safe moves' in this regard. Aris shows how you can punish a standing A with just guard..

Is anybody really good at JG yet? Ive seenpeople use the jump OS, but i havent seen anyone abuse JG yet. looks like its best for really slow, drawn out attacks. like astaroth 4A charged? mitsu or yoshi 66A+B?

I played a Nightmare player who used JG every time I would use Natsu's 2A+B an I was shocked each time. I just couldn't believe he could constantly do it so I kept it up, partly just so I could watch him JG it again. Luckily I have a mix-up where I cancel it 2A+G,6.

Oh you're the one who sent me the message asking if vfdc was for virtuafighter.com! It was 7am over here on the east coast. In SC I regularly play people from Germany, Russia, Western Europe, and some Japan. It's that magical netcode.

I can do it pretty decent in training mode against CPU counter attempts, but Im far from utilizing it in online or real matches. [IMG]

I would instead attempt to use it after one of my fast close-range pokes is blocked, in case they try something equally fast to catch me, the timing should be easier to get down imo. Of course, once you get the hang of it, I guess JG'ing slow drawn out attacks should get easy too.

Do note that you can just guard unblockables. Thats something to remember.

How does teching (quick rise from the ground) work in this game? I notice that if opponent tries to hit me on the ground with something thats not guaranteed, I can just hold block and my character teleports to blocking position. However, Im interested in how to deal with Natsus lowhitting unblockable in okizeme? Is it possible to just guard it from the ground?
You cant roll away from it since it hits low everywhere around her. Marly mentioned something about teching and jumping, but how do I tech? Also I think that it doesnt do much damage at all if you jsut let it hit.. You take shitton of damage if you try to roll.

If theres one thing wrong in SC5, its that the basics arent explained anywhere in the game and/or the mini-guide that comes with it.

that's right, it has the worst manual ever, I think they wanted to push sales of the book, but the book is hard to find, although worth it if you're going to spend time with this game

teching is just G + the direction you wanna use, 2 4 6 or 8. Maybe roll back? I'm sure there's a way out without having to JG. Also remember that if you're face up/head towards or face down/feet towards, you're going to get up back towards if you're hit while getting up. I usually roll, not tech to avoid ground stuff...

Some things that seem ridiculous at first are actually un avoidable, like Cervantes' full meter B+G -> CE -> CE

Just tech roll backwards away from the opponent.

whats up with the SC5 scene in Colesseo mode?

I've noticed for USA everybody's usually in the New York, or LA lobby,
what's up Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, Cleveland, hell what about St Louis?

Is the only serious concentration of SC5 folks in New York and LA, or are those just the default?

I guess the problem is that nobody wants to hang around in an empty lobby, in other words, start one. Instead people go to a colosseum that already has people. Same seems to apply to personal lobbies and ranked mode as well. I find that ranked mode in Europe seems to be mostly deserted now, even though I had good fun in there couple days ago.

In Europe people mainly go to the Paris colosseum, which is 80-100% during primetime and theres people in there even in the middle of the day. The only other colosseum seems to be London one that has something like 35% people during primetime. I havent seen any other colosseo in use, even though theres a colosseo for Helsinki as well [IMG]

ITs annoying when a colosseum is full and you cant join it, but overall I think online could still use more players.

The colosseo system is pretty decent anyway, as it should give people a reason to go to a lobby near you, instead of assigning opponents automatically from across the world like VF5 online. People just need to learn to use it.

Ive seen people from places like Malaysia, Colombia, Brazil and USA in the Paris lobby ..
