I actually care a lot about SC's story. I find it is one of the few well thought stories a fighting game has. SC1 just set up the cannon so well along with SC2.

The story in Soul Blade was amazing. And you could change the endings. Was a great idea.

Story in SC1 and 2 were very good as well, along with the Mission/weapon master modes in each game, they really kept me coming back for more.

Lack of this stuff is one of the reasons so few people play VF.

I really don't know, Namco didn't do such a great job with SCIII and SCIV, so I'm not too optimistic about this. I'd love a good new SoulCalibur game, but somehow I feel like we'd be much better off with a SoulCalibur II remake that has an online mode.

I met him before he was part of the development team, actually. He's not super well known but he was a regular SC1/2 player in Tokyo that was above-average. I got to know him a little bit through the other Japanese players that I knew via message boards so that's how I know him. I only found out recently he became part of the dev team, but with someone like that handling the direction of the game I think it will turn out to be at the very least a decent title. He doesn't particularly like SC3 or 4's movement so I'm expecting something that matches the feel of SC1/2.

Also, I'm better at SC than VF [IMG] SC1/2 was the first game I was considered really good at, and those games helped me start my career in the game industry, so I can't shy away from any entry!

I used to know someone who translated parts of the manual for VF4. No idea what he's up to now.

After the last one, I don't know what to think of this game. My two biggest complaints were the gameplay was slower, and he character models were HIDEOUS. You really know you done wrong when models on your previous, last gen game looked better.

If they addressed these issues, I might give it a shot.

Man, their skin textures were great imo... The backgrounds weren't as bad as I thought they would be... My only complaint was that you couldn't hit the dodo birds [IMG]

The actual level designs looked good, but the characters themselves looked like freaky porcelain dolls. It just bothered me to have to look at them all the time. Just seeing pics of SC3, the designs looked WAY better in that game. It was also hilarious how some of the females cup sizes grew exponentially, lol.

Having come from a background of SC, this news excites me. Having been let down with SCIII and SCIV (and as a Mina/Raph player), this also saddens me.

I hope they won't fuck it up, again, but that is not likely. They'll probably waste too much development time on an extra game mode that is catered to the mashers and fans of the "story," instead of balancing it and giving at least some of the characters the options that were available in SCII.

With that said, fuck Yoshimitsu and Mitsurugi. Oh, and if Hilde/Amy comes back tone that shit down. And remove all the unnecessary just frames, and make guard breaks useful. And bring Mina back as an older woman and make her hit harder. And test the game a lot before release. And seriously, less time on create a character/extra modes and work on the main game.

They won't get it right, so I'll stop there. I mean:

    is a 100% accurate.

Bloody hell, so it IS happening exactly as I called it. They're making a meaningless timeskip pretty much nobody wanted and no-one is giving a shit about as an excuse to replace "old and tired" characters with "young and hip, and approachable and appealing to the new generation of gamers blahablaha blah".

Which of course is a double whammy of riskiness, because there's no guarantee people will like the new characters (I've seen three and I'm hating so far), and they're alienating the old fanbase as well.

Namco should really take some cues from Capcom here - Cap is rockin' the same roster for like 20 years now, and it's working because the system is solid. Nobody gives a shit that "this character has been here for ages", it's a fighting game not a TV drama. New generation will find Ryu or Siegfried as bland or appealing as the old one. The previous SC's flopped because of the system, not setting. It's characters' movelists being dumbed down, flash over substance, shitty just frames and borderline QTE's taking place of mindgames, broken characters, bad netcode that killed those games, not Sophitia and Taki being in every iteration. There's nothing with the tale being "eternally retold", it's even their catchphrase for cryin' out loud.

In short... if this game turns out AWESOME then I'm happy, I have a soft spot for SC. But what Namco is doing with this series at the moment seems retarded.

Just tell me that the old characters that have replacements now will still be in the game. Taki better not be completely replaced by this new wipper snapper.

My characters since SC2 were Cassandra (main) and Taki (trolltastic alt). It was bad enough that they kept changing them to "mash more, think less" types, but now we get this new character pic, and Sophitia's spawn in game clogging the sword and board eco-niche...

Things aren't looking good [IMG] . Here's betting that most of the chicks will be replaced because you can't have an older woman in a fighting game BY LAW, and developers know players don't care about their characters as long as there's t&a (riiight?), Amy won't age because she's pandering to the lolicon crowd a vampire thing, and all the main dudes will just get a beard. Joy.

Also, Ivy will magically look exactly like she did in old games, dress even sluttier, and have bigger tits.

    Joy joy
