I don't mind Critical Edge, though I could do with learn how to defend against a lot of them better (outside of combo's).

I've been playing a bit of online and the online really is great, the lobbies, spectating, being able to text chat in the lobbies ...everything about online is immense. I've probably said VF doesn't need features like this in the past, well after playing a bit of SC online i've realised I was wrong there.

Quality of the players seems a bit off in Ranked matches, i've got 100% win ratio so far, only 10 wins but everyone I meet seems pretty clueless. I'm pretty terrible at the game, hopefully i'll get more of a challenge when I move higher up the ranks.

Because if someone was playing Sophitia, Xianghua, Kilik or Taki, then he still has dopplegangers... but if someone was maining Zasalamel, Talim, Yun Seong or Cassandra, then he's SOL and Namco doesn't care?

It's quite hard for me to find characters that would fit me perfectly - I couldn't get a proper "main" in Street Fighter until Viper came along, and in VF until Goh (I play since VF1Remix on Sega Saturn). Losing my perfect main in Soul Calibur sucks, and I'm sure many people are in the same boat. The suckiest thing is, it wouldn't take them a lot to implement those "missing" characters, just render them with most old moves (as characters have less moves in V than IV - not exactly a creative process) and the players would be happy. But no, they had to go and cut them out for "story reasons".

How would you feel if you got Virtua Fighter 6 with no Sarah, Goh and Wolf, for example? "Dear Goh players, we appreciate you staying with us for years. May we interest you with any of the remaining characters, after we've made most of the skills you got over the years obsolete?"... Especially since the justification for that would be "we had to move the STORY forward" (which is exactly what the devs said in the interview)?

What if they killed off Lau because "too old", and replaced him with a spunky Hong Kong kid, Chau, with exactly the same moveset but... less Lau? The point is, what's the bloody point?

It would be bad if people didn't complain, and just rolled over and took it.

    Hate mail!

I got about ten more from this guy, the messages and insults were just as colourful as a certain well known members here [IMG]

I really like SC's features for dealing with players like this. You can report & mute them in game for text communication, or even offensive character creation. I've no idea if he'll be banned from online or anything if he recieves too many reports but it's nice that it has features like that in game.

I uploaded a replay if any of you want to view the n00b battle.

A lot of the serious SC players I know, are not even messin with rank mode right now, everyone is doing player matches and colesseo (tournaments) just to get the feel of the characters and the new changes. Yeah I don't think there is much interest in leader boards this week...

There are legit good players in the higher ranks. That said, will have to trudge through a lot of scrubs to get there.

I think i'm D3 now, quality of matches is getting slightly better and i've run into a few decent players. I doubt i'll do too well when I get to the higher ranks, my Mitsurugi is only capable of hitchecking 66B and 2k strings, I spam that stuff like crazy.

There are legit players in the lower ranks. You have to go through E5-E1, D5-D1 etc before you get to A ranks. The game just came out on 1/31/2012. Unless a player just went straight to ranking matches and sat there for the last 3 days....

That term "scrubs" is relative you know. Have you ever played Kayane? How do you think you would measure up [IMG]

If you're truly looking for Competition

Again, there are some people playing the ranking game, but many of the intermedia to advanced players have set up rooms in player matches and are trying out all of the new CE, BE, GI, stuff. If you want some serious competition
then in player match under search feature select serious for game type.

I'm sure in those rooms you'll get exactly what you deserve or at least find what you're looking for.

@Feck just curious: have you taken all of the titles from the
    A5-A1 in single battle yet?

Have you beat legendary souls yet? What was you clear time?
Did your clear time make the leader boards?

I found there is some pretty nasty AI in this game..

You mean the Quick Battle mode? I've been playing that a little, I just use it when I want to practice up with a new character.

Yeah I beat Legendary Souls, took me about 28 minutes which I thought was poor but it doesn't look too bad going on the leaderboards.

You're right about the AI, the A5-A1 rank characters in Quick Battle and the opponents in Legendary Souls are just plain silly. They throw escape like crazy, and Guard Impact everything, I ate Guard Impact > Critical Edge so much that I almost cried [IMG]

EDIT: Game looks so silly when you've got your opponent low on health in a close match, then they throw escape and KO theirself [IMG]

I have the game on PS3 if anyone wants to play! I mainly use Alpha Patroklos and Viola as a secondary. Still learning her though XP

I'm sure some shennanigans will be used heavily in major tournaments involving this... This honestly was one of the dumbest features in the game...

Happened to me in a ranked match during the last round, felt so sorry for the guy.

I could see if they added that to prevent mashing of some sorts, but things like that have a j/f version that hopefully wouldn't take away damage. If anything, shouldn't the person trying to throw take damage (albeit a very small amount)??? If not, this is the dumbest thing thrown in the SC system...

Seems like they put it in because throws are so easy to mash out of, still makes no sense to me though. It'd been better if they revised how throw escapes work.

How are throws easy to mash out of when:

    1. Throws beat attacks

    2. Throws track fully

    3. You have to guess your way out of a throw?

And yes, the chip damage off throws is fucking stupid.

  17. Jigohro

    Jigohro Well-Known Member

Umm... did they completely revamp the throwing system in SC5? Because if not, then...

BZZZZZT. You don't have to guess squat in SC series. You have to guess in VF, unless you just happened to throw at the same time as the opponent and escaped by accident.

In Soul Calibur/Tekken you escape most throws with a single button, so if someone is being thrown in the middle of a BBBBBB string, then he has roughly 50% chance of escaping without even noticing what just happened.

That doesn't change the fact that the throw animation for both A and B escapable throws are the exact same animation.

So yes, you have to guess your way out, even if it is 50/50.

Tekken doesn't have this problem because 1, 2, and 1+2 throws have different throw animations.

Master po finally got a game he can go online with and now he speaks normally... Foh!!! This fucking game is trash... The battles still feel the same...no matter wht bullshit they added.

Your question wasn't whether they have to be guessed or not, but "how are they easy to mash out".

The answer: you escape by single button, which are being pressed all the time in normal play, enabling escape without any knowledge of a throw incoming by simply attemtping a combo at the same time - precisely, just by mashing. Thus, they are.

You don't "have to" guess anything, just play normally, heck, close your eyes and you still have 50% chance of escaping a throw every time you press a weapon attack button. That's the very definition of "easy to mash out of". Compared to, say, VF5 or SF4's 0% (barring chosen unthrowable attacks), where you have to anticipate a throw or you leave yourself open - that's a lot.
