I just want to officially point out how sharply the number of Sagat users has dropped off now that he is about even (probably still a good amount better, but not S+ tier) VS the rest of the cast.

Why do people have to be such scrubs and ONLY pick the character that has a blatant advantage when there's 30+ other guys to use and have just as much fun with??? Mind you, all of this is on top of the fact that you're certainly not putting yourself at a disadvantage by using the others characters, just opting not to give yourself a clear advantage just so you can win scrub-a-ly.

(scrubally, scrub-a-ly, scrubilly... Not sure how to spell it but you get the idea...)

Am I the only person that has difficulty playing as Sagat? I respect the Sagat players. Im particularly all about using footsies and rushdown; Sagat isn't my type of character but it's still fun to mess around. I'm amazed at how good bip is this time around. Anyone see psycho crusher?? It's funny how that move went from unusable to abusable

Also ggs to Tsua, dude's fei-long is NASTY. Fei's c. mp is no joke

    @Shag

I don't see that as good ol' Sirlin's "play to win" cause you're not at a disadvantage by choosing a character that ISN'T S+ god tier, you're just even.

If you used to play Sagat in vanilla SF4 and now you've switched to Akuma in SUPER, I CANNOT respect you. Playing online isn't all about playing to win cause the game isn't even fully intact. It's a great way to learn and practice but it's not really the place to use a "crutch" character to help you win while you do your best to abuse lag on top of it....

That's all I'm saying. I don't subscribe to the "play to win" scrubitude... David Sirlin is nick named "low strong" for a very good reason... He had to write a book about it to make himself feel better about it.

    xx..sigh..xx

You asked a stupid question in my opinion, I gave you a simple answer.

Unlike you who are playing for "fun" (Hey, I don't take SSF4 seriously either. Ask anyone here and they will vouch that I pick random select most of the time. [IMG] ), there are players who wish to play the best game they possibly can; most likely preparing for an offline tournament. If they feel playing the best character will help achieve that goal why should they be judged?

They are PLAYING TO WIN THE GAME! They don't give a damn how you feel and they shouldn't. If you feel the need to hate, don't hate the player; hate the game.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Playing online isn't all about playing to win cause the game isn't even fully intact. If you are playing rank/team matches the whole purpose is to play to win. And if someone is playing in a lobby with over 6 people in Endless I'd think they would be playing to win also so they won't have to wait forever for their next match.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">That's all I'm saying. I don't subscribe to the "play to win" scrubitude... Do you even know what a scrub means? [IMG]

What is ironic is that you Gernburgs are the scrub! [IMG]

Here is a passage from David Sirlin's book "Playing to Win" (The full article can be found here. http://www.sirlin.net/ptw-book/intermediates-guide.html)

That is you to a T, Gernburgs. [IMG]

I sat and read you posting about how you try to main Fuerte and how hard it is to win with him, I'll give you that. But I'm not going to give you any cool points for keep playing him. I'm trying to play Hakan to a decent level but you don't see me griping about it.

I was just fine posting the video as a joke but when you post this drivel I had to call your bullshit and put you ON BLAST. [IMG]

I'm only going to make this one reply to this current subject to you Gernburgs.

Look, I don't mean to be malicious but I don't want to hear you whine and plead for sympathy how you feel the game should be played. If you keep crying I'm just going to ignore you while you STAY FREE. [IMG]

P.S. Sirlin got a lot of flack from HDR players saying he made Fei-Long weaker in the game designed by himself than the ST version who was always considered low-tier. He shut them up by getting to top 8 at Evo last year playing Fei-Long.

Re: SSF4 Good Games Thread/SSFIV Discussion Thread

Ha ha ha, you can't call me a scrub using David "low strong" Sirlin's definition of a scrub, which he created OUT OF THIN AIR to make himself feel better about being the biggest scrub of all time.

    I'm sorry, utter failure.

I love how people always use the word "whine" or "cry" in their lame, weak responses of this nature cause no one is whining. I simply made a statement reflecting the trend I see when I play. Whining about anything doesn't have one fucking thing to do with it.

I know you can play SF but don't give me regurgitated lines from Gayvid Sirlin... Just don't.

Please... That guy doesn't know shit...

For instance, let's say I'm playing VF5 with you online and I'm abusing lag and 2P-ing the shit out of you cause you don't have time to react, are you a scrub or am I??? Of course the dude abusing lag or DMPK is the scrub. So it's CERTAINLY the dude with NO HONOR that is scrub, the very same bitch ass guy who then goes, "hey, fuck you, I play to win you scrub."

That just doesn't make ANY sense to ANY other person than Scrub ass "Low Strong"...

If I'm Addy Paddy and I just do Wolfs DMPK over and over hoping to win and I get lucky and pull off a win, can I then go claim that I'm the man cause I play to win? Of course not!

In reality, that's the dude who wants to find a cheap, easy way to win without learning the game. So I ask, what's the point of playing a game you don't even care to get better at cause all you want to do is one move (*cough* like doing low strong over and over cause Sirlin himself even admitted he can't play the game with any attempt skill and have any hope of winning) and hope to win a few games??? That my friend is the definition of a SCRUB.

Why? What do these SCRUBS get out of that other than a totally false sense of skill?

Sometimes, when I'm playing ranked, I can tell the other guy had to get the door or answer the phone. I stand back and wait till he's ready cause I just don't care to win by beating him up when he's not even playing. If that's being scrubby, cause I don't want a cheap win I didn't earn, then I'm 100% happy and proud to be a scrub. Please, please try to tell me otherwise.

    Gernburgs,

I think Sirlin is right. You may not like to play that way (or face someone who does). That's your right. Sirlin's book describes the key to winning as often as possible as far as I am concerned.

    Good luck.

    Again:

Sometimes, when I'm playing ranked, I can tell the other guy had to get the door or answer the phone. I stand back and wait till he's ready cause I just don't care to win by beating him up when he's not even playing. If that's being scrubby, cause I don't want a cheap win I didn't earn, then I'm 100% happy and proud to be a scrub. Please, please try to tell me otherwise.

So because I don't care to "win" against someone that isn't even playing, that is scrubby? Ha! I'm not "playing to win", I guess, cause I don't think beating someone who's not even playing at all IS winning.

I'm sorry, that's just dumb. I think counter-picking in SF is some scrub shit too. They make you pick blind because they agree with that. Counter-picking is cheap AND scrubby, but it IS playing to win... So I guess the counter-picker is the fuckin man and the other poor bastard is "staying free"...

Terrorists think we are weak cause they're willing to kill civilians and women and children and we aren't. It's basically the same thing that you guys are saying.

Terrorist: "Yo, America won't come ethnic cleanse us... Scrubs... They won't just drop one of their thousands of nukes on my wife and kids those scrubs; they don't even play to win."

Other terrorist: "I know right!?! Yo America, stay free bitches."

You lose fellas, I'm arguing this point TO WIN!!! [IMG]

Funny you bring up America vs. Terrorists. As far as fixing it with the military...

    Back on topic...

Play how you want. Stop whining about how other people play (at least on VFDC, please). If you lose, it's your fault. Hate all you want. It's still your fault.

Its really does'nt matter which character anyone of you motherfuckers pick. This game is easy as hell to keep up with people depending which character is used. Lately i found Adon to be a very strong character to face online (His weak attack recovery is good.). I got caught offguard fighting him the other day. I was using Guy and Cody and when i switched back to Guile my movements were pretty robotic-like and i got trounced. Luckily i played a nice long set against a good Adon player and learn the nuances of his trickiness. Spacing and Elusive-ness stopped a lot of the shenanigans.

Long story short.... Take your ass whuppings like a man and learn from it without complaining. ADAPT BITCHES!!!!

Tiers and counterpicking definitely exist, in any game. You can take all the time to understand why matchups are the way they are, and how to exploit. Against good players, there's certain things against characters you SHOULD NEVER DO!!!... in theory, but anything can happen, and anyone can win.

It honestly is all about the player. In SF, the strongest players I know are the ones that stick to one character and learn how to fight every character with their main. I know I've seen every individual character place well in tournaments (even dan)

You gotta find a character that fits your train of thought the best so you can perform at maximum effenciency. And then you have to be confident you can perform with your skill set. This is why I don't wear high heels.

I try to think of every game I play, as if i'm paying to play or there's money to be earned. There's no point in complaining about lost money but I can always try to earn that money back.
I know that sounds pretty cold cut but that's pretty much what it boils down to. I choose to work and learn the hard way.

I used to think that way when it costs me money to fight against competition. Free play has made people weak, including me.

I went to CTF the other day, granted the SFIV setup is kind of odd since you're on a timer but I played SOOO much better because I didn't want the prick next to me to win.

Also it's final I need to get my stick back; for an old
arcade head like me there's not substitute.

I never mentioned one character being cheaper than another, I'm simply referring to the type of player that always picks the best character in the game, regardless of which game it is.

Counter-picking is kind of doing something outside of the game itself to give yourself a better chance to win, AKA a crutch.

I don't really care at all who someone picks, it's the attitude behind it that I was critical of. I'm just saying, if EVERYONE one chose to do that, the game would be ruined in a week cause you'd only be playing one or two characters ever. I'm thankful that not everyone is like that, but I don't feel any need to compliment or respect those that are.

    Nuff said.
