GGs all. / seemed to dominate everyone's attention. Understandable, given that it's the brand new hawt thing.

Steve - Good job figuring me out toward the end of the night. I'll adapt next time. DONT YOU WORRY, SHIT

Goh's improving, too. Don't get so caught up in trying to out-space -- you've gotta play the small range game a lot more. That's the main reason Jeff and even Pai were going nuts against Goh. The tech catch is nice once in a while, but don't expect it to work consistently. I was really autopiloting after you did that setup after catchthrow and it hit me like, way too many times. People can struggle out of shrm stagger, so mix it up between catch and a mid or something (not really sure).

Nate - Let me know if you want to get some Evo in sometime, since it's a lot more convienient for me to get out to your place than anyone else's basically.

Mo and Greg - You guys really gotta do some quest mode in Evo to start grasping the basics of the game. Once a week isn't going to be enough to catch up. Everything's there on the disc -- combo list, an extensive tutorial, defensive technique practice, CPU that actually punishes correctly and uses logical tactics, etc. Don't be afraid to ask anything, either.

Greg, good job mashing my head in with Faust and Slayer, too.

    Re: Goh talk

Hi, STL. Nice to see the scene going strong. Props!

Since I've been working on Goh recently, I will add some info to help my fellow VFer, Steve.

    GOH

Strength: a great throw game, good sabakies, sweeps, decent low throws

Weakness: Range Range Range. Very vernerable against backdash setups and outfighting(long distance poking game). Options in +14 or obove are very limited, meaning opponent won't be afraid of using launchers. (same goes for Van)

    Useful Moves

    [P],[P]

High, Mid. -5, -1,+3( guard, normal hit, counter hit)

Safer than Akira's P,P, but nobody really just frame throws after blocking Akira's P,P so it's basically the same.

On a normal hit, which happens a lot against who uses fuzzy guard after blocking a high P, [1][1][6][P]+[K] is great to beat a LP. This is one situation where your opponent goes for a LP out of reflex a lot. You can also make a use of [4][3][P]+[K] to sabaki it.

Once you discourage them from using a LP after hitting them with P,P. You can safely use your LP since it's only -1, and you know they won't use LP which is the only thing that will MC your LP. You can also simply [1][1][G] out of it.

P,P on counter hit, you have +3, so it's a basic nitaku situation. People do attack(LP) alot in this situation unless they've learned not to. Your first option in this situation can be [3][P] or a throw.

    [6][P],[P]

:[6][P] with Goh is basically a 1 frame slower elbow. The follow up makes up for it although due to the follow up, [6][P] on normal hit leaves you at -4. When it gets blocked, throw out the follow up P wisely to discourage them from going for a nitaku. Once you condition your opponent to wait, you can [1][1][G] out of it in the future or even keep attacking.

On counter hit, you get +5. It forces crouch, so you have nitaku with high or low throw. You can use knee against someone who mashes low throw escapes.

    [6][6][P], [4][P]+[G]
: A 16 frame move that works as a launcher for Goh.
Use it after [3][P] on counter(+4) or stagger, K stagger, Shouder ram stagger.

Use this move, a throw, and a delayed shrm for a three way guessing game(Santaku).

    [K]
: A 16 frame move with a decent range. Useful in defensive flow(when you block a move that's -4 frames on block). In an offenisve flow, use [6][6][P] instead.

    [2_][6][P]+[K]

One of the best moves Goh has. Beats punches regardless of frames. It creates a heavy stagger on hit. Your options include a dash in throw, a dash in low throw for someone who struggles and duck, [3][3][6][P]+[K] for someone attacks out of stagger, [6][6][P]+[G] for someone stuggles and uses fuzzy guard, or SPOD for someone tries to RN with a big attack.

    [4][3][P]

-2 on a normal hit and +2 on a counter hit. In both situation Shrm will beat punches. Use it wisely as the flowchart is very well known.

This move is great for a wall combo. Use this move when your opponent's back is against a wall and do

[4][3][P], [6][P]+[K],[P],[8][P] or a ground throw for about a half life. You can mix this up with [K] to really maximize the potential of it. You can do the same combo above on a wall stagger by [K].

    [6][6][K]
A great addtion in FT. Safe on block(-4). Use this move to beat opponent's backdash setups such as Kage's [K]+[G], back dash [3][P].

    [3][P]+[K]

Goh's elbow sabaki. Very useful against Jacky, Lau, Aoi, and useful against Akira and Kage, Goh and Brad. A buffered throw is guaranteed upon a successful sabaki. You can bait an elbow against above characters by doing [2][P] after a [2][P] guarded.

    [3][K]+[G]

Useful against Jacky, Lau, and Kage who like to rush on you with a PP string from a long range. Also useful to get a MC for huge damage against Lei, Aoi, Lion, and Van who like to use an elbow sabaki to get out of a disadvantaged situation.

    How to fight with Goh

Use those for Santaku(a three way guessing game)

[3][P] ( in adv less than +4) or [6][6][P]( in adv equal to or greater than +4)

Any throws, preferably 270 foward P+G or HCB P+G

and a delayed [2_][6_][P]+[K] or a delayed SPOD

You can use [K]+[G] to beat a dodge, but it only give you 1 frame adv which won't be enough for a forced guessing game situation.

Use SPOD as a RN. It's the only move aside from Shrm that can do some damage on a normal hit. Shrm is harder due to the buffering issue.

Make sure your opponent is aware of Shrm. Once you discouage them from using punches, you open up more opportunity to land the elbow sabaki([3][P]+[K]) or get out of a disadvantaged situation for free.

Use his powerful throws a lot. Encourge your opponent to break it in a midium disadvantage(+4-+6), and then use a delayed shrm or SPOD. His throws do enough damage to force your opponent to try breaking them. Don't choose the path of using a shitty throw when your opponent start using EDTEG. Make them pay by implicating a delayed SPOD or Shrm.

Feel free to leave comments or questions. I hope to see you guys in Ohio next month and play some FT+Evo.

    Cheers,

Steve- just wait till Vf5 Shun can get 5 drinks inbetween rounds instead of 2 or 3.

Tim- Lei Fei was sick as hell, never seen him used like that, but then again I haven't played Rob's Lei Fei as much as I've played his Brad.

Seth- We live so close yet we never play. Your right we should hook up sometime but right now my only real time is Saturday. I'm busy as hell lately, school everyday and working 24 hours a week leaves me with almost no free time. But only 4 more weeks of school and I will be free almost all the time. I'll let you next time i'm free but It probably won't be soon.

    Re: Goh talk

steve: a great thing to try against in close non freezing opponents would be backdash poke such as BD 3 K+G (goes under a lot of things), BD 66 K, or just work on your frame situation understanding, you will find yourself questioning your self understanding what to do in said situations a lot better because the frames will help you there. I'd prolly find Maddy's advice a bit more helpful since he is most betterer.

    Re: Goh talk

In VF, as you know most situations are forced nitaku ones, which means if dis adv +2 or above, fuzzy is not an option.

When your opponent keeps attacking in dis and not freezing up ever, you need to stop that madness with beating that RN with a fast enough attack. Like mentioned before, use 3P in any situation less than +4, and use 66P in any situation above +4. That will stop your opponent from attacking back, and then you will just have to choose between a throw or a delayed shrm or SPOD.

Beating fuzzy in neutral or +1 situation is not easy. There are not any set rules you can do to beat it. It takes some conditioning and a twisted mind game to beat a strong fuzzy guard in nuetral situation. Since your opponent is not forced to do things, it's just that much harder for you do to the correct thing.

    Re: Goh talk

Hey, Danny. My appology. Check your PM.

The strategy was for Evo+FT btw.

Against ARM, carefully get close to your opponent by crouch dashing forward. When your opponent is in the sidekick range, use a side kick or any long range attack to hit him out of ARM. ARM is weaker in FT, but this strategy works even in Evo. The key thing is you should be patiently approaching and never let your guard down. Some characters like Kage has a long range low attack from backturned.
