It looks good to me too I don't see any real downside to the game at all. The use of the Focus attack makes and all the other changes make for a unique experience. I won't compare it to other SF games because it would be like comparing apples to oranges it can't be done. The only issue I have is which system I will get it for when it comes out 360 or PS3, I am not certain yet.

game looks great and vids don't do it justice. I became a believer when I finally played it. However, I feel they went backwards by taking away the parry system. In my opinion even though characters were unbalanced somewhat the parry system made up for that.

It's going to be super turbo all over again once people learn how to play. The game will result to just spacing and a lot of fireball throwing traps. At least with the parry system people really had to think twice about there rinse repeat tactics and fireball traps.

And yes I know they have this sub par parry crap in place, but it looks silly to me. Your character stands there focusing his chi or whatever waiting for a punch. Who does he think he is Hamna Yujiro?

lol...yea my only real issue with it is still the graphics...not that its a bad looking game...I just wish they played more on the ink look of the first trailer....honestly I prefer hand drawn animation…

Ryu and Ken look shitty compared to the rest of the characters.

Im glad there's no parry system. The only thing im piss off about is why the fuck there is no chain combo's in any crapcom games anymore?

    After Darkstalker/NightWarriors/Vampire Savior and Alpha.

Capcom saves chain combo's for Marvel Vs games.

I too prefer hand drawn animation. I also like, from what I've seen, the new parry system, called focus attack? In SF3 you could just spam 6 when you were expecting an attack from your opponent, while now when you're going to parry if you do so when your opponent isn't throwing a fireball you're F'd because you're wide open. I like that fireballs won't be totally useless like they were in 3s.

If this actual leads to better gameplay still remains to be seen as I haven't sat down with the game. I am very optimistic though.

I dunno if parry really made up for the lack of character balance . . . Evo 3rd strike finals: chunyunchunyunyunyunyunyunchunyunkenyunyunyunyun

Its a little early to tell, but so far the game seems pretty well balanced in terms of characters, especially for a capcom game.

I think the game will result in a lot of spacing (isn't that what 2d games are supposed to be about?) but mindless fireball traps don't seem to work as well; afaik everyone has different ways to get out. Worst case scenario, focus attack means everyone can absorb fireballs to build ultra meter, so there's always risk/reward involved with tossing projectiles.

Game came out about August, so far they say Sagat is up there and Claw is at the bottom. Here's the character rankings in arcade so far. I recommend reading on Gooteck's site, got some interesting stuff about the game. He also released a free E-book for 3S players getting into SF4. Link's here

I'd be more inclined to look at this as an indication of how the character balance is:

    http://curryallergy.blogspot.com/2008/11/street-fighter-4-international.html

People are winning tournaments with claw, in fact if you take use percentages into account, he's winning slightly more often than he "should". Only characters that are winning more than twice as often as one would expect based on usage are rufus, dhalsim, boxer, and sagat. Only character thats winning less than half as often as one would expect is ken.

Id say yeah the game is real balanced over all. Id say Sagat and Bison have an advantage when played well and of course some characters do better than others in certain match ups but over all its pretty balanced.

Ryu is actually really good in this game in my opinion. He has all the tools to do a lot of damage and he can connect his Ultra in a lot of different situations. I think Ken is decent but not as good as Ryu for sure. I wish his Strong -> Fierce target combo was better. :\

I know what you're saying but in practice the parry system just makes the broken characters that much more broken. Fact is it rewards players for guessing, gives them instant advantage over their opponent with no real repercussions for it. There has been many topics on how to revise the parry system, like make it add more stun to stun bar, have it use meter etc etc but 3s is over and done with and SFIV is the new hotness.

The focus attack isnt crap. It's actually a much better and deeper system than parries. You dont have to sit there and let it charge, you can tap forward or back twice to cancel it which leads to a lot of wake up mind games. You can use it to cancel specials to gain advantage on your opponent. But its not without consequence in that it takes a chunk of recoverable life if you absorb a hit with it or uses 2 bars of meter if you use it to cancel a special move. The actual attack you are tlaking about is good to use within poke strings and also to incercept mindless poking which leads to a crumple -> combo.

Its a cool system but it does take sometime to get used to. Overall it will play like its own game, not like SFII or SF3 or whatever.

ps: I wasnt flaming you anything just want to make sure people give this game a second chance cause its really good even w/o parries. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

The focus attacks actually seem to have a lot of implications beyond being able to absorb a single hit. It has 3 different levels, It can cancel certain moves and specials (allowing for super cancels at the cost of meter) and can itself be canceled with a dash. Combining those would lead to big combos and I think there's more you can do with them as well.

EX moves have been retained from SF3 as well some of which have new properties. some EX moves can make specials go through a single attack.

It does look like there's more ways to deal with fireball spam than before. It would have been even better if they'd replaced Sagat with Adon.

    My favourite match so far

To me, it's more balanced than any sf game so far. Why add an older system like parries over something new that you can learn?

I always hated Adon, Sagat's tigershot pisses me off but god I hated Adon so much more. His overall character was just annoying.

I like Adon. I think he is a great character.

I also think they should use R.Mika again.
