I like all the ALT costumes, but it's gay as fuck that we are going to have to pay for them.

I recall seeing this vid a few weeks ago on SRK and if anyone wants to play dhalsim. The dhalsim player plays him about as well as any other dhalsim player have seen so far. I see SF4 vids all the time in SRK everyday after all.

I guess nuki, daigo ect got eliminated early in the tourney or did they even participate?

They haven't yet announced that the first alternate costumes will be purchasable. I would have thought they would have been free whereas further ones would be DLC.

Daigo got elimated early on by a Claw player.

As pretty as SF4 looks, I really can't shake the feeling that it's mutton dressed as lamb. This is coming from lots of SF4 videos I've watched, and it's further demonstrated in this Famitsu tourney final video.

Rounds can last for an eternity, and I didn't enjoy watching single round, let along a single match, last for so damn long! I wanted to gorge my eyes out after that Time Out for example! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

When a round basically consists of one player trying to get in, while the other tried to keep away, I utterly and completely lose interest. In fact, I've come to the realisation that I personally hate a "fighting" game where you can play a keep away strategy so effectively. Especially you can constantly poke from a far and safe distance, and easily retreat when in danger.

Dhalsim executed that kind of strategy perfectly. Yes, it requires skill. I'm just saying that gameplay of this ilk is not my cup of tea. I hate that a correct guess, and often a high risk one, against this kind of play usually yields zero reward. It seems that you need to string together a series of high risk guesses in order to close in and inflict some damage. To me that sounds more like work, and less like play.

In VF (yes, this comparison was inevitable), a correct guess usually rewards you with opportunity to damage, or take advantage so that you can dictate play. I like the ebb and flow of advantage and disadvantage that occurs in a fast paced VF match. I find that exciting.

So, I'm interested to find out from others what, if anything, excites you about SF4? Because, right now, apart from new ways to combo and the focus attacks, I'm at a loss.

p.s. I have the game on pre-order and will actually play it (probably a lot!) /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I'm in the same situation as you Myke, I don't find anything i've seen of it interesting it all. I have it on preorder too, shame on me /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I'm just hoping that SFIV will offer a broader audience to play online with, and that the online gameplay will have good netcode. It's not just the netcode itself; I hope the interface with online play will be smartly made. For instance, you should be able to do things like set up tournaments, choose characters/stages in between online matches, have more stats in between fights to read up on, and have some sort of match replay option (I think I remember reading somewhere that that is NOT in SFIV but they're looking into it).

Like you guys I can't help but shake the feeling that SFIV is a much, much simpler game and won't be something like VF in terms of requiring so much dedication and time-investment, but I'm still looking forward to it. I guess it can't be helped---Street Fighter II started me on the whole fighting game genre thing, and I guess I just want to see what happens with this sequel /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I agree with you man and even though I played alot of SF2 back in the day, I dont really enjoy jumping and blocking projectiles in order to inch forward only to have the guy I just chased down for the past 50 seconds jump to the other side and do it all over again. SF3 was a little bit better in that sense but that eventually turned into just fishing with a super as well.

If you guys like sf4, great, have fun playing it. For me, it's pretty much just OG sf with a couple extra bells and whistles and i've had enough of SF2. Also, for a game that was made in 2008, I think the overall quality of the character models and the animation could have been alot better.

So you don't like Shun in 5 or R? Minus I guess the far pokes lol.

I gotta disagree. Apparently so did Japan in that poll but that could be from hype. I gotta say, it probably has the best animations I've seen yet in a fighter. I can understand not liking the art style I guess, but the character models are rather tip top too. Especially when you consider how well they actually do animate.

Can't wait to check this thread in a month and see how much everyone ended up enjoying it lol. Wait till you play it. Like, truly play it.

The animation is definitely poor, I just watched that vid further up again and each attack looks like it has 3 frames of animation at the most.

If you're gona judge animation based off of a 30FPs video then well lol...

    Try watching it at 60FPS.
Check out any of the mac vids to see the difference.

I could go off on details too like this boat stage lol. Water splashing up, bottles swaying around, NPCs in the background reacting to slams and what not.

Im basing my opinion from playing the game for a week at an arcade here in LA as well as giving it a second try when I was in tokyo.

That's not all shun is about in 5 or any of the VFs but I can see how some people might think it is.

I animate 3d for a living and personally, some, not all, of the animation looks like a little kid animated it (zangief running anim/fuerte idle anim). I have no problem with the art style. Its about the character proportions (look how big hondas head is compared to his body) and hand animated quality.

Why do you assume I haven't played it? I actually helped ralph who owns family fun arcade set it up and play test it when they first got it.

I'm really not trying to piss on anyones parade. I know you guys really dig the game and can't wait to play it. I'm just stating my opinion which really doesnt mean all that much and i'm sorry if I offended anyone with it.

Nah I assumed you had, just questioned how familiar you were with the system based on your opinion. But it's all good, and don't question your ability as a player in any game or question judgment really.

I have nothing but the highest respect for both you and Myke. I think I'm just letting off steam here after reading random SF4 threads all day lol. So my apologies for how I worded my posts.

That looks a lot better than the earlier vid /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I still say the animation is poor though, just look at most of the normal attacks and specials, the jumping and walking animations... They look pretty bad and the only time I noticed the moves having more than a few frames was Honda's Orochi throw & the supers.

...and Guiles head is bigger than his hair now, wtf?!

I totally agree with Myke and L_A, and I've had this feeling ever since I learned and understood VF more and more. I don't want to sound elitist, but I've been joking called that from SF players/friends I don't play SF with anymore.

    I've played SF4 btw.

I definitely agree with SF4 being boring sometimes. That's not gonna stop me from playing the hell out of it though. It's really only matches with characters like Dhalsim and Sagat. Their keep away is too good. Especially Dhalsim who can seemingly just teleport away if you get a good guess and end up right in his face like Myke said.

All the other matches I find exciting though. The other thing I wouldn't dare mention on something like SRK is I think charge characters are lame. It just seems like a way of encouraging turtle play. I understand some of the charge characters wouldn't be balanced if they could execute their moves easier but I think they should come up with a better way of doing it.

    This.

Just wanted to clear up that I'm not saying SF4 is a bad game in any way. I can respect that for many this game will be exactly what they want in a fighting game, and I've no doubt it will be hugely popular and successful.

All I'm saying is that I'm not finding a whole lot to look forward to. But this is coming from someone who grew up playing the SF series, since SF1 hit the arcades with huge punch pads! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif For the newer generation I can appreciate that there's lots to discover in this game. For me it's a case of been there, done that.
