You don't have to turtle to play chargers. There's alot of techniques to disguise your charge, the most basic ones would be while jumping and while a move of yours is already out.

I'm not saying you HAVE to turtle, but people do. Professional people do as well. Pro Balrog players do it all the time. Maybe it's only certain matchups but they definitely stand there and sit on a dash punch charge, simply because its dangerous.

This is why I enjoyed a3 the most, it was a more offensive sf game imo.

I sort of agree with Myke on the VF comparison and yea VF is much more exciting than any SF game but... I've lost a lot of motivation for VF for a couple of reasons. And while SF does seem a bit less engaging it's still rather new for me so I'm having fun. And what it lacks in gameplay is made up by the fact that dutch SF meets are pretty hype and tons of fun.

Part of this whole thing has always been the social aspect for me, which is why I travelled to NY for VF. And the dutch SF scene while not being huge is really cool. There will be plenty of tourneys in europe as well.

Fulan, I think most people are fortunate (or unfortunate? :)) enough to be surrounded by an abundance of 2D fighting competition, myself included.

So I will no doubt play this game, and if it appears at the next WCG, then I might even play it seriously just for that. I just hope that I find it challenging, and fun, for long enough!

And yeah, the social aspect is always a huge draw card when choosing a scene to associate with. I still maintain that the VFing crowd will always be #1 though /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Is there some UBBcode I could use to embed these directly so peoples can just watch them in the thread? Nick doesn't mind the direct links to his server.

Nope, sorry. And no offense, but the gameplay in this and the previous Dan video was pretty ordinary. And by ordinary, I mean painful to watch! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

This reminds me of early leaked VF4 vids from game media sites like (IGN, gamespot, etc) featuring versus videos being played by two newbs.

Since we're not exactly starved for quality SF4 videos (with quality gameplay), then might I suggest we only post videos with a decent level of gameplay?

Sorry for sounding ungrateful, but with a bazillion SF4 vids out there, and counting, then I think we can afford to pick and choose?

But... I think that is the case here! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif This is what the game will look like, on your TV, captured by ordinary means. Not beautified, upscaled, edited, whatever - this is the real console deal.

If that's the case, then I (and probably others) would appreciate it being announced as such.

And how do you know this is just a raw capture with no beautifying, editing applied? (I'm not suggesting the contrary btw) And how do you know what capture equipment was used to be able to say, with any confidence, that "this is what the game will look like, on your TV"? Is every capture device going to produce the same result? Note: these are rhetorical Qs, please don't answer them. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Personally, I've seen enough console footage already to satisfy myself that there won't be any graphical issues. If I'm going to watch another SF4 vid, then I'd rather it be showing some decent gameplay, or showing off console features not yet seen. Two newbs jumping constantly at eachother makes me cry.

Keep in mind, these are basically my roomie Nick testing out what he can do with his capture/editing software and his server. We've basically just been getting requests of "HAY SHOW US THIS CHARACTER IN A MATCH" and Nick screws around with said character for a bit while recording. He de-interlaces the video, but other than that, these are (primarily) recorded at 30fps, 480i so they should give a good idea of how the game really looks (I think the framerate got lowered in the Chun-Li exhibition by mistake though?). Our actual versus matches are far more amusing, especially with live commentary. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif (Though we've been stonewalled since the final 3 unlock requirements remain a mystery, and Nick's character of choice is among them.)

I dunno about that. I've watched videos recorded from a normal handheld video camera, of people standing in front of a tv playing sf4 on a console. And it looks 10x better than that. It's on a nice HDtv sure, but who doesn't have one of those these days?

What kind of unlock requirements are there? I've seen in some videos that you only start with the original 16 characters available, but I assumed that the others would be unlocked by finishing arcade mode with certain characters, but from what you're saying that doesn't seem to be the case.

Well... I will play cuz lot of people will. I mean, I could go to offline sessions/training/meetings, do tournaments, meet seome people etc... It'll be fun.
But in my PoV this game is nowhere near the level of Virtua Fighter :x

You really sound like a Biased VF player honest with all due respect Myke.Almost all Capcom games is like this if it took you till now to see this then you were never paying attention to anything. Now as far as Dhalsim goes he will be probably the only one who can play this kind of game annoyingly. You cannot anti-Air his limbs anymore and he's consider in air after his teleport?. In today gaming Safe-Moves are the norm now so that people can take chance to open up the ebb and Flow of the game but in 2-D with a character stretching limbs this was bound to happened (Thats why his Fireball goes halfway.). Before this was never the case in a SF game.I realized this after thorough playing HD and realize how much safe bullshit exists in Remix mode.

Did anybody notice that the Focus attacks is damn near useless now in all these videos?

Why do you say that? EDIT: In the second fight, Focus-> dash-cancel is the answer to his keep away style. Focus attack is going to be huge IMO... And doing it that way doesn't cost any super-meter. You can just absorb and dash in.

I thought Sagat could've charged it up more to beat some of Dhalsim's slower ranged attacks. Like he focused a Dhalsim jumping fierce but just absorbed it. I'm no expert, but if he had charged it up more I think he could've landed a big crumple combo. I think the game is still pretty new...

It took a long time to realize all of the nuances of ST or SF3, Street Fighter is like that. VF is just deep, straight up. I'd say SF is more nuanced. There's small things about the system that can be very important, yet may not be immediately noticeable. Like kara-cancels, kara-throw etc., game-play features are slowly found and integrated into gameplay.

Beyond that, some of the depth of SF is going to be the inputs and difficulty of big combos. Yes, VF has some tough combos and inputs, but some of this canceling and two-in-one stuff I'm seeing in SFIV is gonna take a long time to perfect. SF isn't about buffering so the timing is pretty different in both games.

I see VF as being more about getting attacks buffered to come out "as early as possible" i.e. the first frame after recovery. Doing an attack string in SF, each button has to be pressed with the right timing and then you're canceling some moves very quickly with a more difficult command input; there's some of that in VF but it is not as central to the game-play. Some of these chain combos involve a totally different set of skills and timing than VF. It will be separate skill to perfect.

I haven't played SFIV yet, I am talking out of my ass here, but I REALLY DO think it's going to be a fun game. I want VF5R as bad as anyone else but I'm sure NOT disappointed I'm getting SFIV and a TE stick next Tuesday.

Yes the Absorb but not the actual attack.
