Considering that some of the top VF players in Japan are trading in playing games of VF for some SFIV, I'd say, yes. Sega AM2 has nearly killed the VF series. This is just another nail in the coffin. SSFIV will take more playing time from VF5R in Japan.

And this is another game that Sega AM2 will piss their pants over rather than try to compete with on consoles.

Capcom has been listening to the fans (SFIV, HDR, MvC2 HD). What is left for VF fans other than WCG and some very small local gatherings to play an outdated game? Who is to say that SSFIV or T6BR won't replace VF5 at WCG?

The VF series is dead on consoles. [IMG]

I quit on Sega a long time ago, so I'm over being disappointed or let down. R is dead to me, and I still think VF5 is the greatest fighting game available.

So while the VF series may be dead on consoles for you, I'll keep playing it while I can, and I'm sure many others will. Look at how long SF3 ran for before it really became "mainstream" in the west, and players finally started to level up in skill. Maybe VF5 will run a similar course. So long as VF5 features in WCG, and the annual gatherings in the US and EU take place, that there is a lot to play for IMO.

Anyway, I apologise for the troll. I just can't get excited over 18 year old character designs being brought back. But if that's what the fans want, then...

If I see screens of Guy, I'd probably flip out a lil bit.

He's the only character that would ever bring me back to SF. Even if the game sucked, I'd play just because Guy is in it.

What if it was Guy in an alternate costume as Strider?

If I see Adon, I'll probably flip out as well.

Why does SEGA act like this? It's so fucking dumb it hurts me. I don't think they have even one game that would be better to bring to consoles than VF5R, not one.

I'm so sure people would not only buy it but it will pave them a nice path to continue the series with VF6. SEGA is just stupid with the games they put out.

I'll never get over us asking about VF5R on consoles to SEGA of America only to be told they are releasing Daisy Fuentes' Pilates... It's painful to watch.

VF5 is the best fighting game on consoles (aside from 4/EVO of course). But it's still dead. Blazblue, SFIV, Tekken 6, all of those games are getting console ports for their revisions. Every time those come out we get reminded how much of a failure Sega is.
The difference is that Third Strike was the latest installment to SFIII. VF5 version C is not even the latest version of VF5 and it's not even the next revision that is VF5R. Saying that 3S is played years later isn't a good comparison. Hardly anyone plays SFIII:NG or 2I aside from a few extremely hardcore gatherings in Japan.

Hell, the PS3 is still stuck with VF5 version B, offline as well. Not exactly the latest revision.

VF5R is closer to 3S because it's a major and latest revision. If Sega doesn't make VF6 then I wouldn't be surprised if VF5R is still popular in Japan years down the road like 3S is. But VF5 certainly won't be a WCG game a few years from now or maybe not even in a year.

And the U.S. isn't that leveled up in Third Strike. Hardly anyone plays characters out of the top tier while in Japan, Kuroda OCV'd three of the best teams in the world using Q, a low tier character. Most people on SRK peg Japan as two to three years ahead of the U.S. in terms of 3S skill. I don't think 3S ever went mainstream like a Tekken, Marvel, or even VF did.

And do the Japanese want to come over to the U.S. anymore to play VF5 when they have 5R? And word on the street is that WCG is looking to abandon VF5 anyways (not that Sega cares). If I could play 5R I certainly wouldn't want to fly across the world to play VF5 version C.

The next VF gathering should be in Japan. Arcades. 5R. Throw bricks through Sega's windows.
Please Myke you are way full of crap on this one. You probably got all excited when Taka-Arashi was announced for VF5R. "Oh my god they are bringing an old character back"! "Oh sweet a VF3 character returns to VF5"!

Oh...but when it's for Street Fighter? It's not acceptable. "It's lame when Street Fighter brings back old characters because the fans want it". Please. Taka-Arashi coming back was huge news for longtime VF fans. And T.Hawk, Dudley, Captain Crunch, or whoever from old SF games coming back for SFIV is big news for SF fans as well.

And so what if T.hawk and DeeJay are old? They are the same age as the original cast of VF and those characters still come back. Are you saying that T.Hawk is stale but Jacky and Kage get a free pass? Just because Sega AM2 is terrible doesn't mean you have to displace your frustration at SSFIV.

While Street Fighter IV is a mostly garbage fighting game (ultra!), Capcom is a terrific company, and they've done a great job with SFIV all around. VF5R is the best fighting game, maybe ever, but Sega AM2 is a pathetic company, and they've nearly killed VF as a series (rental arcade only, no console ports).

He was the character that actually made me want to play fighting games past the button mashing(and find places like SRK), and I wanted to see how strong I could make him. My Guy was raw, no videos, no xcopying, just always losing until I stopped losing(so much).

I eventually got some serious props and respect for my Guy too, offline(some srk tournaments and gatherings) and even online(on that laggy place called kaillera)

Video of T.Hawk and the new female character screwing around including both of their Ultra attacks.

That must be a mistranslation? No arcade release? Capcom is like the anti-Sega.

ARGH! Still no Q?! I thought Capcom listened to their fans!!1!1!
If rumor is true then I may be happy with the addition of the 3S chars. Dudley would be my reason to consider this one. Though I don't see why they are hyping up all these characters when we already know the only characters we'll see online is Ken, Ryu and Sagat.

In that video it looks like you could possibly choose what ultra to have on character selection.

Hawk had one 'pin' and Juni had two, hoping that's an indication of what ultra was chosen, kind of 3rd strike style.

Edit: Oh yeah, Hawk is awesome the damage off ultra! [IMG] (Zangief Part 2 lol)

    And Deejay's looking great too

Pretty sure this was an issue of translating and trying to be as safe in the conversation as possible. Example of this having already kinda occurred, can be found here, in this nterview at 1up.

"First interview of Ono for SF4:

1UP: One of the points that has come up many times in a lot of the Capcom interviews we've done over the last year or so is how viable it is from a financial standpoint. So my two part question is how important is the arcade release in terms of the financial aspect -- does Capcom want to try to make money off this in the arcade so that they make it really appealing to arcade-goers even though that would basically be a Japan-only concern at this point -- and how important is an arcade release in terms of balancing it like as a beta period before it moves to consoles?

YO: The first thing I should say -- and I mean this in all sincerity -- is that we haven't decided for sure what platforms this is going to end up on...if there even will be an arcade version, for instance. The version you guys played was indeed in an arcade machine but if you actually rip it open and look in there, it's just a PC running Capcom's development software. So please don't draw the conclusion that that's an actual arcade game you're touching. We're not looking to release it on a certain platform first and use that to collect data and tune the game as a beta test or anything like that. We're going to take the opposite approach and look at each platform, look at the strengths and weaknesses, and evaluate that to make a version that would suit each platform as necessary. I can't tell you right now what versions there will be. There might be an arcade version. There might be a PC version. If we would make something like a PS2 or DS version or something like that, we would look very closely at the market and the kind of users that use that hardware to make something that really suits their needs and that platform."

It'd be incredibly stupid to not update the arcades. Old cabinets would stop bringing in revenue, and they could make more cash by releasing the update.

Will Kuroda play this game? Just wondering...

I like Guy too Tony and Slide. I also like Sodom. Only character I like that is partially a "grappler" character. If he is considered a grappler?

Kokujin and a few other 3S hardcore players started picking up SFIV a few months ago. Some of the best VF5R players have been adding in some SFIV time lately as well (Koedo plays a nasty Sagat).

Personally after what Kuroda did at SBO this year I'd rather see him focus on 3S still.

Right now I've been hired by an academic publishing company to write and edit sections of psychology and neuroscience textbooks for undergraduate courses. It's rigorous work but I love it. Unfortunately it's not like a normal job. I work tons of hours every day of the week but I only work for a few months out of the year.

I spend my free time, when I play video games, mostly playing Quest Mode from VF4:EVO and VF5 version C on the 360 if I play fighting games. Sometimes I hit up Super Turbo or Hyper Fighting on GGPO.

When SSFIV comes out I might get really into the game depending on how it turns out. I certainly know that it'll be a big game at EVO. But for SFIV Vanilla, I don't really like the game as it is right now, and I'm bored by playing it and watching matches of it.
