baji? ba means 8, and ji means chicken, ahem, i mean pole. i only know there are south and north poles. 8 poles? man that's deep... i remember there are two sub types of baji, one is for exercise, the other one is for real fight. most ppl could only learn the exercise portion of baji, the fighting portion requires a hell lot of strength and exercises especial for doing the almighty body check.

anyway, how was the friday night gathering?

    NY Visit

    Hey New Yorkers!

I am thinking I may try to come up to NYC for some VF soon, maybe the weekend before the Super Bowl (1/27). If I come I will probably be driving and bringing Yosuke. Does anyone think they can put us up?

I finally got to play with Yosuke on Friday. He lives about 25 minutes away, so I picked him up and we played about 200 matches of Evo. I guess a lot of you guys played with him already, but if you haven't you have to check himout. I would imagine he is the best player in the U.S. right now.

I think I am better than most American players, but he completely destroyed my Lau.

    Yosuke Jacky vs. Dissmaster Lau:

    150-3

He beat me silly. His defense, offense, and knowledge of the game are way beyond me at this point. Once he gets an advantage, he usually does not lose it until I am on the ground or KOed.

He made me realize just how far I have to go VF-wise. It's funny to go from zero competition to playing the best guy in country.

But I had a lot of fun. I don't care if I lose. I just want to work on my weaknesses and have fun.

I did play my best match ever against him. It was the fifth round and there were ten seconds left. I had just been knocked down and had a sliver of life left. He had about forty percent of his life. I realized that if I were cautious, he would just end up low kicking me for the win, so I went berserker, attacking and evading and guessing the right moves. He had about thirty five points left and the timer was at like five seconds. He backed away and we were far apart from each other. I dash forward and backward, and crouchdash forward and back... I was scared shitless that he was going to uncerimoniously beat me again, but fuck it I was going to down fighting. Then Yosuke blinked (figuratively). He whiffed a high kick (or guard cancelled it, I can't remember) and I dashed in and caught him with [4][P]+[G]. I wasn't sure it would take all his energy so I was ecstatic when it did. I cheered for myself, (probably annoying Yosuke) and wanted to save the replay for posterity, but Yosuke hit Start too fast. He didn't do it on purpose; I am sure he just wanted to put that game behind him and kick my ass some more, which he did- I think like thirty straight.

But anyway, that was my highlight in a night of getting beaten early and often.

So anyway, Yosuke is good guy, fine as a houseguest, and has the most blazingly fast, meanest, Jacky Bryant I've ever seen. As long as you don't mind losing at VF, Yosuke is great guy to have around.

Back to the NY trip: if anyone has a floor or a couch for us to sleep on, we'd appreciate it.

    DissMaster has Feelings Too...

I do not see why proclaiming myself "better than most Americans" warranted a stinging rebuke in the form of an extended ellipses followed by the most hateful of emoticons- the deadpan. /versus/images/graemlins/tear.gif

    Har har.

Seriously though, when I say that I think I am better than most American players, I mean I have been able to get the better of all of the American players I have played against for any amount of time. This is one occasion where I am not trying to diss.

If any American wants to sit down and disabuse me of this notion, please do so. I don't care if I lose. I love the game to the point that I will lose 100 in a row and be happy. I just love to play.

I have never played FT because of where I live, but I feel that I am pretty good at Evo for an American. If any of the guys who have played Evo with me want to say that I am a below average American player, go ahead and make that case. I will not take it personally.

I was just trying to provide some context for heinous beating that Yosuke gave me by stating that I am pretty good (for an American) and that he mopped the floor with me.

    Yosuke is coming!

dissmaster, my suggestion is say nothing about the word "better," or "best" in this topic. if history taught me anything, i mean after reading the first 15 pages in this topic, you know saying u are actually better than anyone require some serious guts in here. just dont say anything, let the real match do the talking. And everyone will respect you without saying a word.

    Good, Bad, So-So?

I hear what you are saying TianYuan.

Saying that I think I am better than most Americans really only means that in terms of VF skills, I think I am in the 51st percentile or higher among people who play VF in the U.S. Is this an outrageous boast for a person to make?

Considering that my last post was about losing at VF, probably worse than most people here have ever lost, I don't think I can be called a big VF braggart or anything.

I live in America where I am good at VF. If I lived elsewhere, I would not be good. Who cares? If someone beats me handily, you won't hear me saying that they cheat or that my losing should be blamed on the weather or the game or my hemmorhoids. If I am good or not good, it doesn't matter. It is only a video game in the end.

150-3, he's got to be glazed after playing jacky with a spread like that.

Speaking/proclaiming for another player is bad form imo.

I believe that is what they are talking about, referring to only VF. I dont believe you had a bad or Newbbie intention with your comment, its just in the past , 'being better than most american players' is really relative and doesnt hold any weight. You could be a horrible player , like me, but can still evaluate good play without stating your status. I think many people would believe you or at least wait for a second opinion.
I think you were just trying to make your record against the guy not seem as bad or make him seem better and/or validate your opinion. very understandable.
Anyway, its just a comment that is taken a bit rude or brash on any board

    Boasting

I hear what you are saying Stino. I realize you are just explaining the thinking behind calling out a boaster.

I personally think it is one thing to go around saying "I am the VF King! Behold the trail of defeated bitches in my wake!"

It is another thing to say "I am better than most Americans."

I would say that the first statement is cocky and obnoxious while the second means literally "There are more American VF players with less skill than me than there are American VF players with more VF skill than me."

Maybe we should sticky some rules in Versus City.

    Rule #1:

Do not under any circumstances attempt to assess your relative Virtua Fighter skill. Violaters of this rule are subject to sanctions in the form of passive-aggressive emoticons.

Well, why don't you just wait till you've played some of the better players in NY, or elsewhere in the US, then maybe you'd see why some people reacted the way they did.

Incidentaly, I don't think my Jacky is good. However, if you have any question, I will answer you unless my weak point lol.
