    VF5 Needs This

    [ QUOTE ]
Players will obtain money used for customization by playing the single player mode, or by winning or losing in a versus match. Winning a versus match will earn you the highest amount of money, followed by losing a versus match. Playing through the single player arcade mode will get you the least amount of money. The more you play, the more money you'll earn, and the more items you can buy to customize your character.

Since this system is geared more toward versus play, Namco has made sure that you won't be waiting around while someone is customizing their character. There will be an option from the main screen to either go into the customization mode, or play single or versus mode. This is the only way to access the customization mode as players will not be able to challenge someone already on the machine, and customize their character before the fight. There is also no way to retrieve card data if you lose or misplace your card. You can backup your data to a second card, but it may be best to make sure you don't lose track of it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

VF5 should make sure there's a way to customize characters without VF.net. In fact, FT should've had this...

''Arguably the best innovation to hit US arcades in some time, the Tekken 5 cabinet will feature PlayStation 2 controller ports. This will allow players to bring their Dual Shock 2 pads from home to use in arcades. No longer will arcade goers have to complain that they would play better on a pad, or that the sticks need to be adjusted. Now you can bring your own PS2 pad, or any PS2 compatible arcade stick to your arcade for Tekken 5 action that feels just like you're at home.''

    No more excuses.

    Simply awesome.

Exactly, they should've done that for Ver. C from the get go but maybe I guess they figured the investment wasn't worth it. If FT makes it outside Japan I hope they do exactly the same thing with the card system and also the PS2 controller ports. But who am I kidding !? Maybe, hopefully for VF5.

Well, I think the motivation is $$$. If you can configure items without VF.net, not as many people would bother getting a VF.net account and Sega would be deprived of its monthly income.

With a monopoly on the concept and far and away the leader in Japan, Sega can get away with this. Now that Namco is making configuration of characters possible without Tekken.net, maybe this will force Sega to follow suit...

    Go competition!

you must admit though, if you have only one T5 arcade machine in your arcade (which, and let's be honest, will be pretty much everyone in the west) then it will be properly annoying to watch some random bum messing about dressing his character when you want to play. /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Why do I have a feeling that Tekken 5 is going to very very big.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Cause you're wearing a Jin avatar using a Jin nick at a Virtuafighter forum.

Btw: Did anybody play Tekken 5 at Evo? Some impressions on that from someone?

*Pictures the scene* 2O ppl waiting to play while lil' Billy decides on which pair of shoes he'll put on his 2nd Kyu Eddy lol. I'm pretty sure there will be an unwritten rule : If you see someone waiting in line, you gotta use common sense and dress up your character later. Of course there might be a couple of idiots once in awhile who might not care about who's behind them but hopefully they'll be a minority. I'd hate to have to tell someone to hurry up or bounce everytime I want to play.

Some Naomi1 cabinets(yes in the west) already had DC/ps1 control ports so nothing new here.

That's insane. I never saw one single cabinet with a controller port. Good old sega: Innovation without comittment. Namco is taking steps with Tekken 5 that should have Sega taking notes.

good news for me, I can't play Tekken on the Stick for some reason to save my life, lol.

They should do the same for VF, so I can use my stick and not the crappy busted up ones we have at our local.

That's weird - of all the Naomi cabinets we have in the Toronto Area (about 5), none of them have peripheral ports that I've seen...one of them had Powerstone even...

Perhaps the Western distribution for these special cabinets was limited...

KiWe, there's a few big threads about impressions of T5 from the two japan playtests and the evo playtest at http://www.tekkenzaibatsu.com/forums/index.php in the Tekken 5 general forum. If you don't want to read them, summary below of what I've read.

General consensus from the people there is that it plays more like TTT than T4.

    TTT juggling mechanics are back.

Just Frame moves are gone - no more unblockable mid launcher for Jin.

3 new characters - Asuka, Blade..er..Raven, and Feng Wei.

Asuka plays like a more powerful Jun - big surprise there.

Feng Wei is compared to an older version of Paul a lot in terms of being fairly straight forward and overall hitting power.

Raven I haven't seen compared to anyone much - "Tricksey hobbitses!" is pretty much what you hear about him.

No time releases hard confirmed yet (no one has had the game over 3 days, so no time locks undone, and I haven't seen anyone post who the final boss is either).

Biggest alteration to an existing character - supposedly Kazuya plays like a whole different character, as lots of his moves were radically changed and it sounds like he's more of a hard hitter now than the fast poking powerhouse he was in TTT - strong, but punishable moves added, some other moves taken away.

Anti-high/anti-low properties added to moves, so sweeps will go under EWGF even if the hit box goes through the character, and aerial style attacks are more useful.

Low punch slowed down as well.

Throws can be buffered into attack chains, which helps King out a lot.

    Universal low parry still in.

Lots of character specific information up, but it's still beta, so things will probably change. Pauls DF does 40% + on counter hit according to a couple posters, for example.

8w walk toned down, from what I can gather - some posters that mentioned it said they couldn't tell the difference between sidestepping and side walking.

    Wall pushes are gone.

Wall juggles still in, but people fall faster from walls, and wall bounces do no damage in and of themselves. No wall tech rolling yet.

Some air juggles I've heard of seem insane ( a certain Kazuya juggle comes to mind), as well, but no hard footage to back them up yet.

Dashing is back to TTT style distances.

Long-distance throws implemented to help counter this, where a character steps forward and then grabs.

Tiering altered a lot because of the changes in the dashing game - as an example, many say Steve lost a lot in the rankings because it's possible to avoid being locked down by his jabs. Bear in mind that it's in beta, and a lot of T4 people don't know how to compensate for the changes in movement yet, so all tier talk is pretty much vaporware at the moment.

Ling lost more than she gained - some flows into AoP nerfed by recovery time, new sidestep sweep move slower than Bryan's df+3 sweep.

Yoshi gained a new (flying) stance with lots of options which might boost him a lot.

Jin and Lee also have new stances.

Lei is more powerful than T4, in terms of hitting power.

Hwoarang has long legs again, instead of being the stumpy dwarf he was in T4 - added reach helps him a lot.

Marduk improved as well, and has an air throw which some people are complaining (whining) about being used in juggles.

My overall impression from the posts: right now it seems more like T3 in terms of balance, where nearly everyone can dish out hellacious damage. Marduk has 60% airthrow juggles, Paul's half life on counter hit deathfist, 40% from Asuka 1+2 escape throw into juggle, someone listing a ridiculous Kazuya juggle. We'll have to wait and see what the next iteration of beta looks like to determine if they want characters this powerful or if they are going to tone down the power across the board.

Maybe in some european arcades but I've never seen controller ports at any arcades I've been to. Never seen someone bring a dc or ps1 pad to an arcade. But whether it's a Sega, Namco, Capcom.... innovation is irrelevant to me. It's probably old news to some and like I said earlier that's cool but to me this is new.

I know of a SC2 cabinet in New Jersey with PS2 ports. People plug in their pads and sticks all the time. I think its a built in feature for SC2 (Namco) boards, not exactly sure.

I guess most arcade operators would frown upon people using the ports all the time if they knew.

    Re: Pad players !

Actually, if I were an arcade operator, I'd like it better if players used the ports. Much easier to repair a controller port than mess with the tangle maze that is a joystick and cherry switches. If you're smart, you have block connectors going to the port, so replacing the port is about a one minute job even if you have to replace the whole thing. The controls are what require the most upkeep on video games, and what players bitch about the most. Our local TTT operator was replacing cherry switches at least once a week and replaced the joysticks themselves 3 times over a 9 month period, because of the abuse they got.
