    Why ?

    Nashi said:
Honestly, I hate tekken for one simple reason: hit effects. Even Street fighter games have better hit effects. Virtua fighter has those flashes (but they are there for a reason...mcs, struggles, etc..), but what are those stupid "smoky-kind of" flashes for in Tekken?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Those hit effects are in the game to give a greater sense of power to certain moves, I couldn't imagine the Mishimas without the electricity effects or Paul's pheonix smasher without the fire. In some cases they can be useful for instance Paul's d+4 : 2 : 1+2. After the d+4 the fire effect tells you if you got the timing of the 2 right, and it also helps you with the timing of 1+2. Is that what you mean when you say ''smoky-kind of'' flashes ?

That's why I'm all into Dead or Alive now... I don't care about any other fighting game. Dead or Alive is more realistic than any other fighting game, even though that looks stupid.. Animations are awsome, graphics are awsome, gameplay is absolutly brilliant...

    [/ QUOTE ]
How da fuck you figure that DOA is more realistic than any other fighting game ? Is it the falling from a 10 story buliding part ? Snowboarding on the back of your opponent part ? Genfu throwing Bayman 500 feet in the air and catching him part ? Or maybe little Hitomi knocking Bass 200 feet across the room ? Lol You're joking right ?

I used to think (like everyone else) that DoA was the pervert-dude's fighting game. The truth is, DoA has the most amazing fighting engine I've ever seen. It's intuitive, but pros always win against button-mashers. It's true that you're able to do some funny shit while mashing, but against someone who's good with counters, you're dead in no time.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I would ask you to elaborate on the ''most amazing fighting engine'' crap, but what's the use. I have the game and already know the deal. The last thing I want to do is get into a DOA vs Tekken argument. *rolls eyes*

See you knew you were off topic but decided to post anyway and on top of that there's already a DOA thread. This tells me that you did this on purpose in order to get a reaction out of somebody (Me ?). Are you in a flaming mood or something ? If so, cut the bullshit and come out and flame whoever you wanna flame, if not then bounce.

This is starting to get very annoying.

    Re: Why ?

It would be cool if there were an option (like in VF) that allowed you to remove the hit sparks. Not that it bothers me but I think it would be a good idea.
Anyways I hope T5 lives up to the hype. I like Tekken and I think it is a great game but Tekken 4 left a lot to be desired.

    Re: Why ?

At this point, my hopes of all new characters has been smashed to smithereens. The only hope I have left is that they make the character movement more like TTT or T3 than the molasses that I felt like I was wading in in T4. Everyone I used to play TTT with said the same thing about T4 - characters move like they're stuck in a mousetrap.

As long as they do that, I'll be semi happy. I'd love a VF4 customization system, but I'm not holding my breath. Just fix things so they flow, rather than stutter, Namco.

    Re: Why ?

Totally agree, I don't really have any beef with ss and sw but they have to bring back the old backdashes (and backflips for certain characters). And judging from the vid : where Raven kicks Jack then backdashes, it seems like that's exactly what they did. *crosses fingers*

That was one of T4's main flaws. Didn't make sense that they weakened backdash when there was walls to avoid the endless use of it. Ppl got use to ss and sw but it still didn't feel like your typical Tekken game. And characters who needed spacing like Lei Wulong got pretty much screwed.

    Re: Nice video.

I'm sorry but DOA isn't the best fighting game out there. I've seen experts play the game and it's stil no way the level of Tekken or VF. Sure the game is prolly the best looking of the bunch but thats about all I see in it. IF anything the game would be better if the block button didn't count as a counter button too. Can win a whole match standing still and pressing back+block. Too Lame. Anyway this is off-topic.

I can't wait for T5 baby! it's gonna roxxors ur boxers!

    DoA Counters

Well, you're either a reversal-machine or your opponent(s) are not very good. DoA is better than its reputation. Just play what you enjoy, and all is good.

DOA probably is not the best fighting out there but I love the multiple costume feature. And I really hate when namco is doing this with Tekken and SC. Only 2 costumes for each fighter!! /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif

    Re: DoA Counters

no I am not a reversal machine on that game I'm just stating that u can stand still and reversal everything. I mean I play the game like a fair player with out having the urge to hit back+guard. I just hate how EVERY character can reverse. But I do still play the game for laughs and for the hell of it cos it's still a fun game. Jan Lee is funny, WATAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

oh and Jan Lee > Jackie > Law

    This just came from magicbox:
    - In the business forecast, Namco announced that Tekken 5 will be released exclusively on PlayStation 2, the arcade version is scheduled for a fall 2004 release, and home version is scheduled for a 2005 release.

    thats music to my ears!

    Re: DoA Counters

Kewl, I only have a Hori Stick for the PS2, so I welcome the news, too.

With regards to the reversals, though, to me that's what DoA is all about and that's what makes the games so dynamic and unpredictable (the tag feature and location specific damage is sweet, too).

In any case, VF, Tekken, DoA, just keep bringing 'em. I'll probably play them all.
    Life is good.

Looks like Bruce is back !

''Tensaikun has once again tapped his trusty sources in Japan and was able to confirm the return of Bruce Irvin and Anna Williams to the Tekken arena! Also heard through the grapevine is that Heihachi isn't really dead... big surprise.

The upcoming issue of Arcadia magazine has an interview with some of the Tekken 5 developers and they were pretty liberal with the spoilers and hints. A big thanks to Vindicator for providing the translation.

    Infinite fields are back again
    * Kuma is a time release character
    * Raven uses Ninjitsu as we speculated
    * They are adding stuff like lasers & fire (Devil & True Ogre coming back?)
    * There will be many breakable objects on stage but they do not affect gameplay
    * Position change has been removed and left/right throws are back
    * A Soul Calibur II conquest mode is being considered
    * Juggling system is going back to how it was in Tekken Tag
    * The low parry is being adjusted (hopefully this means no more universal parry!)
    * Lots of new arts are being added, especially for some particular characters
    * The wall system is being changed to be more fun

Well... we'd hate to judge the game before having a chance of playing it but if all this is true Tekken 5 is shaping up very nicely indeed.''

So far so good, old man MIshima isn't dead afterall.

Re: Looks like Bruce is back !

They just don't make ninja assassins who use armies of giant exploding robots launched from huge airships which blot out the whole sky like they used to... Everyone knows you need to equip them with nuclear weapons, not standard explosives. Those Mishimas get thrown through Mayan temple walls, pitched off of cliffs, and fall into volcanos. A little military grade explosive isn't going to do much when they're fighting a person who breaks man sized boulders so he can keep riding his motorcycle along the road.

    Brief serious note:
Infinite fields, and walls. Sounds like they're trying to please everyone at once. If they're keeping walls around, then scrapping position change throws is kind of dumb. Maybe they're just going to limit them to certain characters.

Now, back to the silliness factor...

Kuma... this has to be like the great great great grandson of the original Kuma who was guarding Heihachi back in Tekken 2.

And Bruce... I thought Bruce got killed by Ogre in the T3 storyline, along with Wang and Jun and Baak and ...sigh. Armor King was killed by Marduk, but I thought Ogre killed him as well. Kazuya's been killed by Heihachi, too, now that I think of it. Anyone want to bet we see them all in T5? Mishima Genetic Reconstruction Corporation at your service. Jin and Kazuya may have the Devil gene, but it seems like every fighter in the Tekken series has the Cockroach gene, since we can't get rid of them. Just when you thought they were gone, they pop back up out of the woodwork, no matter if they're missing a head - they can fight for a week without it.

Re: Looks like Bruce is back !

Actually it never said in the storyline that Bruce was killed by Ogre. They thought he died in a plane crash but never found his body. Lei was looking for him in T3 but came up empty handed. The only (storyline) characters that Ogre killed were Jun and Baek. Why does he have Ak's, Lee's, Wang's, Anna's... moves ? I don't know but they're not the only martial artists in the world who practice their fighting styles so Ogre had to get those moves from some none storyline related dudes.

But anyway I say Bruce is back and all you wanna talk about is the storyline ?

I hope he stays nasty, even though they'll have to tone down the knees for all the none Bruce players sake. Hope they leave 1,2,1,2 alone and totally change him from Bryan.

Re: Looks like Bruce is back !

Sigh. I'm just sulking because Bruce was one of the more imbalanced characters in the game, and I don't think his return bodes well for 'balancing' in T5. I just hope Bruce looks like Fred Sanford now - he should be about 50 now, shouldn't he? Hopefully they'll get rid of the ridiculous low risk high reward launcher and knee juggles. If they bring Bruce back, I want Ogre back with his 30% of your life on a counter hit normal right round house, which was great for picking Bruce off when he'd try to poke from long range, or Julia's T3/TTT elbow juggles of doom.

The more info they release, the more and more it sounds like it's going to be a single player TTT, which would have been fine two years ago when T4 was released, but people have been playing TTT for quite a while now, and I don't think I'm the only one who was hoping for something besides a one player TTT rerun. Only three new characters and TWENTY SEVEN or more old ones which are mostly likely going to have 95% recycled framework animations with new polygon frames strapped to them. Well, at least a step backwards off of the wrong path is a step in the right direction, even if it leaves you behind the rest of the pack. I'll go sulk somewhere else, I guess. *hops off sulking and grumbling*

As far as Ogre killing only two storyline people, I'm pretty sure he also killed the original King (not AK). Ogre wasn't just lurking around during the years Jin trained with Heihachi. He was cleaning house. Martial artists of exceptional caliber were disappearing all over the world, according to the T3 storyline. Did you see Bruce, Lee, Wang, Kunimitsu, or AK in T3? Nope. I am not completely certain, but I don't even think Anna was in the arcade version of T3. Why weren't they there? Because Ogre turned them into fertilizer. Poof. Toastie. Gone. No more, deceased. EX-Tournament contenders. If not for TTT, they'd be pushing up DAISIES right now. They should be waiting in some pixel crypt for the 'Tekken All Star Mega Rumble Battle' home release title, not for arcade T5.
*really goes off to sulk some more*
