I intend to check it out at some point. It isn't easy for me to get there, as I live out in Marina Del Rey, and I don't drive (in LA, yeah I know /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif)

Do they have T5 there by any chance?

    MG,

yeah, no T5 there, they seem to mainly be into the 2-d games at AI, no SC2 either. They do have all the newest 2-d stuff if u like that, Samurai Showdown, Rumble Fish, whatever KOF and SF stuff is new this week.

if you ever do want to go, you might be able to catch a ride with Andy or I, if you'll PM me your phone #, we can make it happen. Take care

Thanks a lot for the media. /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That Feng player had some nice, Minami Akira -style stepping going on there, shaping up to be a nice "fun" game to play as it were. Best of all, there's a card system in place in the UK!!! Should make the wait for FT go slightly quicker now.

Re: Tekken 5=Tekken 3 Final tuned

I finally got to play T5 tonight. My first impressions on T5 is T3 with wall. Game play wise, it felt really simliar to that of Tekken3 to me with removal of push throw in T4.

    Tekken5=Tekken3 Final Tuned.
Graphics are nice but not in a mind blowing way. I can go into detail in game play compared to VF4, but I will just say Tekken is still Tekken.

It's good that Namco fixed a lot of BS that T4 had. T5 should of been T4 ver.B in my opinion. To me, there are not much refreshing things about it in T5 compared to T3 or T4 but I'd say T5 is the best Tekken so far.

hehe cool intro. Hei gets owned, lol.

So now we see the "in-betweens" that we didn't see in the arcade version. Was it me, or did the that move that Hei and Kaz do feel a bit DOA-ish? lol

Also, Heard that the PS2 version of the game will also have a re-done version of Tekken 1! See the news on the magicbox /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Damage scaling, wall damage and general riskiness makes it quite a bit different to T3. Alot of those high damgage moves are unsafe now, so in that sense it's moving towards VF but without the defensive techniques to allow you to make them safer.

I don't want to sound like a dumba$$, but are there any reversals in T5? You know like Akira's reversals.

I don't see why not? Reversals have been in every game of Tekken that I know of but I can't honestly say because I haven't played T5 yet. Paul, Nina and Jin for sure would have them. Craig Marduk in T4 had reversals that would put people in his Vale Tudo mount. Bryan and Heihaci I believe had move specific counters. Also Tekken has counters that only work against reversals, I think they're called chickens.

of course T5 has reversals, just not every character has them like DOA. Off the top of my head I believe these have reversals:

    - Nina, Paul, Asuka (I think)
    - Murduk and King have Kick reversals (I think)
    - Heihachi has a catch counter type move
    - Jin hasn't got a reversal (dunno about T5) but he does have high punch parry move

Everyone does have a low sweep parry. And yes countering a reversal is called a "chicken". Then again, there might be some new suprises in T5, I haven't gone in depth with T5 as of yet. I'm waiting for the console version.

Re: Tekken 5=Tekken 3 Final tuned

Oy! I kept an open mind for my introduction to Tekken 5 and was left wondering why I did. I wanted to like it, I really did, card system and all that. Tekken 3.5 with improved graphics, more characters and a VF net style system pretty much sums it up.

As with all the previous Tekkens there is that definite element of scrubbishness. This is not like VF in the sense that in VF it can take years and years to master one character let alone the entire game. In a way, comparing Tekken to VF is like comparing Sorry! to Chess. Perhaps I'm being too unfair and I'm viewing the game through VF tinted glasses but I had heightened hopes about the game; hopes that, for me, were considerably dashed after just watching let alone playing. Srider found the perfect adjective to describe aspects of Tekken 5: "shallow"

On a positive note, the soundtrack for Tekken 5 is a step up from VF4-Evo but that isn't terribly hard to accomplish.

and the tragedy of it is that T5 will be far more successful than any VF will ever be... /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

    Tekken 5

I personally REALLY like T5. I'll freely admit I've played the tekken series for a long time (since Tekken 3) and Tekken definetley has a much stronger scene in the UK than VF.

I personally prefer VF to Tekken (I actually play both as their far and away my favourite fighting game series) but still see tekken as a 'popcorn' style game which is all about eye candy (i.e. a disgustingly overpowered combo system for one thing). The card system is a new addition to UK fighting games (the only other game that spring's to mind in relation to a card system is Initial D) but for me personally, Tekken is all about the combo's. This isn't to say VF DOESN'T have flashy combo's (i.e. I've seen some COOL AS HELL Kage TFT combo's for an example) but I guess that's the point. VF is a much more serious game and will always offer (at least for me) a much more rewarding experience. I still play VF much more than Tekken, even with my local Namco Station having card's for a £1 and 3 credit's for a 1! If FT was next to T5, I know which game I'd be playing!

Tekken fan since tekken 2. I loved 3 and tag and hated 4, but I'm not gonna judge until I play a console version of the game.

Couple questions for the Tekken home version. Is there a quest / build a character mode for items and suits and if so is it for all the charries?

How does raven play? Much like the normal ninja charries (kage / Hyabusa etc etc) or does he have amore unique ninja move list?

    Raven

There's a Raven player at my local arcade and I actually asked the same question to him last weekend (i.e. Are Kage and Raven similar?). He told me Raven feels differently to the Kage, even though of the BK specific moves.

I guess I'll check further into this when I get the Jap import at the end of next month.
