Tekken fan since tekken 2. I loved 3 and tag and hated 4, but I'm not gonna judge until I play a console version of the game.

Couple questions for the Tekken home version. Is there a quest / build a character mode for items and suits and if so is it for all the charries?

How does raven play? Much like the normal ninja charries (kage / Hyabusa etc etc) or does he have amore unique ninja move list?

    [/ QUOTE ]

From what I've seen, he has a unique movelist and has good low/mid mixups. He has some good floats also.

There are a few good Raven vids here:

First off: Slim Adey, I don't want to sound mean, but that avatar of yours is really freakin' me out every time I see it. It reminds me of one of those creatures in Silent Hill 2. I just had to say this 'cause it's been itching at me. Again, I'm not insulting or disrespecting, I'm just saying that it freaks me out every time I see it.

As for T5, I think they have really improved it. It is actually very good and I dare not say it, but it comes close to being VF good(I mean it's an incredible improvement from T4 since T4 totally sucked a$$ for me). I played it at the arcades and I have to say it was fun. Of course the combo system is similar to VF, but it just was to easy compared to the VF system. The handling was nice and the graphics are quite good in my opinion. Of course, even after all these great improvements T5 still cannot beat the love I have for VF.

I will summarise everyone's comments in one sentence:

"Tekken 5 is a good warm-up for VF Final Tuned"

There you go... Heh, and we're not even on VF5 yet.

Hey, do you see tekken series is better than vf series? Here in Philippines tekken(especially tekken tag) is the most known game. few arcades here play vf. /versus/images/graemlins/mad.gif

yea so tekken is more popular then VF, dont matter that mutch, the way i see it its like how mortal kombat 2 and 3 was sooo popular with the scrubs but only the selected sick kept on playing super turbo!

if you meet a fan of tekken, so what...

if you meet a VF fan, you know they must be good in games in genral!

im not hating on tekken, hell i still love t3 and tag, but its not liek its the end of VF!

on another note as Tekken 5 runs on a hyped ps2 board (system 258) thats means the conversion (which is coming out a bit fast) wont be as good as the T4 and soul calibur 2 conversions that ran on a fairly normal ps2 board (system 246)

but then again T3 was converted 95%:)

I'm curious as to what put's people off VF, or is it just the complexity /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Complexity, and the seemingly unresponsive controls at first glance.

One of the main arguments people make is that tekken's character designs are more interesting compared to VF's bland ones lacking in personality. I tend to agree with this, but I think the general gaming public likes tekken more because of the emphasis on offense. Part of this has to do with the okizime system. Several standing moves will hit grounded opponents, and this causes the action to continue even when there is no techrolling going on. There is no "invincible" status where only certain moves will connect like in VF. Also, the strings are less punishable due to the blockstun/pushback (no serious strike/throw guessing games like VF), so option select isn't as much of a factor as fuzzy guard is. It's also more flashy in terms of the impact of attacks (sparks, etc), and it has about twice as many characters as VF.

People don't seem to mind that it's not balanced at all. T5 seems more balanced than previous tekkens because of the new crush system, but "crush system" is just a fancy term for logic.

The main thing I don't like is the way wall combos drastically change the game. Good players can float an opponent into the wall from almost anywhere in the stage, and I think it's pretty boring when people just sit back and wait to use their safe launcher (STEVE).

Overall, I still think it's a fun game despite the inconsistency of sidesteps, no block button, spamming moves (STEVE), etc.

I agree with what Dre said. The funny thing is that the wall combos have actually been toned down from T4... but yeah, characters like Steve, Raven, etc. can launch you with a completely safe launcher from almost anywhere in a walled stage and get a half life combo......

One other thing to note.... the crush system, while it's a nice addition of logic, still doesn't work consistently..... I've still been hit numerous times by low attacks while i'm in the air. These kinds of things are simply frustrating.

I agree with both of you, Dre and Srider. One of our local gaming crew put it this way.

"There's no cool characters in VF like there are in Tekken. I'd play Goh because he's cool, but that's about it"

A lot of people here relate a fighting game too much to anime in my view. It seems like some people put more emphasis on what they SEE compared to what they DO in fighting games.

VF's unpopularity has a lot to do with its complexity and depth. The system itself is pretty complicated; moreover, the difficulty of various defenisive techniques and existence of stances in the combo system don't encourage a new player either.

With Japan being an exceptional case, VF players around of the world tend to be manias and dedicated
players. Although learning the system and techniques takes more time and efforts than any other fighting game out there, once you do it and get to understand how VF works, VF becomes unbelievably fun and addictive.

I feel lucky about being introduced in VF at my local Blockbuster about 3 years ago. Even though Tekken's popularity always beats that of VF in the U.S., with knowing how good VF is, there's no way back but going forward.

Tekken should stop copying VF! =)

    This actually makes me sad.

Tekken players must feel bummed about this but, didn't everyone kinda know that something like this will be discovered sooner or later in Tekken5.........no?

    [ QUOTE ]

LOL. This is worse than any problem in T4 (JFLS).
This is like, depths of brokenness no tekken game has ever seen.
Steve is definitely going to bantown for the remainder of the T5 tourneys...

Dre has a good point. New players often get intimidated by VF's system. I've tried to teach my friends to learn VF but they quit because they just don't like how you actually have to think in terms of how you are going to fight your opponent if VF. Most of the time when my friends play VF they just pick a button masher character and just mash. I think that's the reason people like Tekken, because it has the opportunity to mash. Plus with all of the flashy effects it just ads on. I played T5 at the arcade and I have to agree that it's really flashy in terms of comparing it to VF. Plus the possibility to do half life combos as was stated, just makes Tekken more popular with fighting gamers in the U.S. Gamers in U.S. don't really care much about using their brains when they are playing a game. They just want to mash and just do things that look cool and produce cool colors. In my opinion that's just sad because that attitude just adds on to what most adults say about gamers. I'm not saying that games shouldn't be fun, I'm just stating the obvious truth about most gamers. If VF were just a bit flashy and more colorful on the special effects then more people would be in it. As for character popularity, I think that the VF character look good even without purchasing items through quest. Sometimes I find myself playing with Akira without the items and colors that I had put on him.

    Raven, Steve, Kaz, Asuka.....

It's as if nobody beta tested the game at all. This is T4 all over again.

Thinking back on it, I really can't see what drew me into playing VF. All I know is that nothing will ever compare to it, ever.

Has anyone see the PS2 screenshots of T5?

I just saw them on gamespot and they look pretty crappy. Even T4 looks better. The textures and color on both the charcters and background seem washed out. And I know it's not the PS2's fault because T4 and VF4 look better.

I'm also a bit sad over the infinite news at the TZ forum. I knew Steve overall was stronger in T5 then he was in T4 but now the infinite plus wall rapage is a lot worse then T4 Jin JFLS. I already sent Namco an email about it and hopefully the console version will be patched.

Despite the fact that Steve, Nina, Raven, Kazuya, and Feng are very much the top characters in Tekken5. I'll still be using Anna.
