Back to questions about the game. Has anyone played with Lee, Bruce or Julia enough to know if they actually got really reworked or are they still the same characters withe like one or two new moves? I really liked bruce and lee, I just thought their move list was shallow. I got high hopes!

Lee: Not as good as in 4, but there is a Lee player in my team and he has some insanely high damage wall combo's, so he IS still worth using, plus he has F+LK,LK,LK,LK,RK (If the first hit connects, it's all guaranteed!).

Bruce: IMO It's the first time Bryan has outclassed Bruce in a tekken game. Bruce still has some good damaging combo's (UF+4, 3,3, B+4,3,4 as an example). His 3,2,1 is a lot slower, as is his knees and the free opportunities he has for knee combos on CH (1+2 knees, BB+4 knees etc) are gone are toned down. He's even got Jacky's Lightning kicks. Namco might as well have made him say 'Yaaaaah!' after them LOL.

Julia: IMO Julia is not as good as she was in Tag, but better than she was in 4. She seem's to be the most effected by the new system in 5, her juggling feel's very curtailed IMO (I.E. Elbow's seem slower in Juggling to me, plus there's no wonder juggle for her anymore /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif. She does have high damage combo's and is still worth using, so it's not too bad. I guess as long as she has 1,1,1 and 1,2,1 for CH opportunities, she'll always be a threat in my book.

I am a newbie at VF and used to hate it. I just started to understand some of the basics though. Since my first try at 3d fighters was Tekken I really enjoy it, and am at least decent.
T5 is the game that I wanted when T4 came out, and now I'm not as enthused as I was.
On comparisons between both games I have to say that I enjoy them both, but am far more into Tekken because it what I know. I do see the great potential that lies in learning VF and will put even more time into it (when I get a working PS2). The only problem is that there's no competition here in Las Vegas (that I know of) and none of my friends play...

I myself like both Tekken and VF. Truely both are great games. Tekken is a lot more complex than most VF players think. I've been using Ling Xiaoyu is Tekken for 2 years now and I'm still practicing. Still learning strategies to this day. VF is also more fun than most Tekken players think. I'd say any real gamer who's into fighting is truely blessed to have two such amazing games to choose from to hit them off. The only reason I play Tekken more is because the machine is at my local arcade and an easy 16 serious players play it day after day. You have may have a 10% chance of finding the machine empty. VF machines are nonexistant here and it's also almost impossible to even find a VF PS2 game..

My first impressions on Tekken 5 were "wow". Never really liking Tag that much it felt good to see Tekken back on track. Sure nothing really that fancy was added gameplay wise, but hey the game is as fun as it's ever been and that's what counts.

I just got the PS2 game today and IMO it's a great conversion. It looks almost arcade perfect and the extra modes are what I expected.

picked my copy up tonight. Great looking game, the art book that came with is nice.

Namco has done a great job on this. I look forward to cursing out the A.I.

Same here, I tried to get into VF4 when it game out, but no one plays so there no comp like there is for Tekken. Tekken 5 may seem like an offensive game now but thats until people actually learn how to be defensive. On, Tekken 3 I didn't even play defense or use side stepping until I was forced to when I played people who were better at being offensive...Just give it time. I don't think any fighting game is better than another, they all have their strong points, with the exception of DOA, if they get rid of those crazy ass counters they might get somewhere...If it weren't for outdated graphics I'd still play DOA1.

woo I am having a lot of fun with Tekken 5 . My fav so far is Lee, but my mains are Nina and Heihachi . oh yeah , WTF!

    Heihachi Mashima is dead.... PSYCH!

Those mf'ers at Namco and their gimmicks.

Anyways the game is good but all these safe combo strings make me hate some of the characters. Bryan comes to mind. There are definitely some hard matchups in the game

Having been playing the game all day sunday I'd have to say I quite like T5 (makes up for the crap sticks and blurred screen at the local arcade!) and the graphics are far sharper than I thought they would be.

Nice bonus that you get arcade perfect T1-3 too!!!

Musics quite dramatic/trancey (couldn't even hear it in our arcade), only thing that frustrates me about it is being launched into a wall and being trapped in the air against the wall (almost stood up against it sometimes) but besides that I think the game goes on to make up for Tekken 4 by miles.

Oh and there's the odd combo here and there that seems a little too broken for its own good...most players have commented that it's very easy to get good at the game.

But will it have Tag's lifespan I wonder?...

The full interview has him laffing at Death By Degrees Nina game (comparing it to NG which imo, is another over-rated pos) boasting abt his DOAX ( in reference to the bonus game in TK3 I think) and so on n on n on.

I don't have any particular preference for any company...but his rudeness....

this is pretty funny coming from a guy whose been using the same characters / movesets for 3 games, with the only minimal differences in the graphics and the stages. Lets take a look at the massive differneces between Tekken 3,4, and 5 then take a look at the differences between DOA 2 - Ultimate. Its like VF4 - FT , but at least am2 didnt have the balls to call it a completely different game.

While I am slightly unimpressed with tekken's customization feature (after playing VF's quest mode who wouldnt be) I must say Itagaki's smugness makes him come off as, dare I say, jealous. I would be two if some rival comapny's game was better than mine in every possible way... well except maybe the girls. Yeah, Itagaki will always have the hot cg babes. props. bitch.

Its true, tekken 5's customization is really weak compared to VF, I just bought tekken 5 LE, and its a fun game to play.

I got the ps2 port a few days ago...

    It's all fine n dandy...but

    a)training is......
    b)customization mode is.....

    best left unspoken.

When I saw the last stage on ps2...I thought I was seeing a different game...jeepers!

Still, fun blast while it lasts

I just wish that Tekken 5 has some online play. Since they have Tekken.Net in japan

Training and Customize modes are indeed lacking in the game. The customize idea was still a cool idea, even though they are missing a great deal of items...maybe for Tekken 6 or Tekken 5 Ver.B? =p

i picked up a copy myself. It's pretty good imho. But like everybody is saying, it's most definitely not a 1p game. The customization, training, AI- pure garbage.

yeah, yeah, it's a fighter, and hence 2p is all that really matters- but then, it should at least have online capability.

but i still wish VF had the overall flash of Tekken.
