anyway, im just curious, are there any VF player who are females. from my understanding, not a lot of female are into 3d fighter, if at all. i only know one girl who is playing 3d fighter and HOLDS HER OWN with the boys at my university. Though, she doesnt like VF, she is really good at "the other 3d fighter game".

Yeah, I know of at least two GIRLS in Japan who plays VF very well. You can see both of them in this video.

i was just curious thats all. as rare as there is for a female to play 3d fighter (tekken adn SoCal), i just cant imagine any girl would take to time to be good at VF.

This is such a funny thread... It is! I can't help myself... ^_^

And the Japanese don't seem intent on investing a lot in the Western market with VF5 as well. So this crew of ours will probably stay small.

y is that a funny thread...i was serius when i asked that question. i do know taht fighting genre appeal to a lot more male than female. but in my Street Fighter days (way back in teh days) there was numbers of girls taht plays 2d fighter.

anyway..its too bad taht sega doesnt want to expand VF5 to the western market as much as japan. have they already made more than enough money to not take the time to expand the VF franchise to the western audiauces? Rival company like Namco are suscessfully doing so with their 3d fighter. and tecmo is "trying" to be the next Namco in the western. why dont sega do so too? i believe that VF was the original 3d fighter.

    Hi. Welcome to the board.

One thing I'd like to contribute is that VF doesn't take as much time as you think it does. The learning curve of the game might be steeper than other fighting games out there, but what VF players love about is that the game becomes much more fun when you get better at the game.

As you get better, you will find yourself willing putting more time and effort to it. In the process,a lot of players find themselves dropping other fighting games they used to play to make time for VF. Believe it or not, it all happenes naturally as it is that much fun to learn and get a better understanding of VF.

I'd like to recommend you to find players near you and get a small group going. I don't know where you live, but most of people I know'd be happy to help a new player who's willing to give VF a try.

Hot chicks that play VF would increase it's appeal, at least I think it would.

P.S. Firefox can save embedded media off of a website.

Oh, I'm quite serious myself, it's just all the shouting in here...

I don't know, it's weird, and somehow funny...

So I really can't help myself when reading some of these posts.

    I'm just quirky that way...

And yes, VF was the first 3d fighter. Also the first game that pushed polygons into the market. The game's got a permanent display at the Smithsonian (and is the only fighting game there) for the influence it had in the entertainment industry since all later 3d models can, in one way or another, be reduced back to their original roots/influence from VF.

Tekken shot past it in speed of innovation in those early days with T2 being released way before VF2. And VF has never really recovered from the setbacks back then, I guess.

As for the marketing thing, Sega makes enough money in Japan alone but has yet to make great returns on its VF investments in the West. So they toss bits and pieces this way but their prime interests remains in the East.

It's not all about console or arcade even though that's where VF kicks ass in the East but also because Tekken took the spotlight from VF when it debuted it's first in the series almost a year after VF revolutionized the genre, with it's sharper than VF1's graphics, kid appeal (you could fight with a dinosaur, a devil, robot, bear, kangaroo, etc.), it was faster than VF and it had/has explosions and pretty colors, it quickly snatched up a fanbase that Sega's more mature fighter has never bothered to reach. Have you seen how big Pokemon is here? I know it's big in Japan too but over there is more acceptable to be a grown adult and be into video games than it is over here on the West, over here kids have a bigger effect on game sales and even game ideas than the East where it's actually cooler to be a gamer than it is here.
But as the years have passed I have noticed that VF has always outdone Tekken in graphics, playability, innovativeness, realism and authenticity and I'm not completely sure but I think speed too. Compare T2 to VF2, T3 to VF3, T4 to VF4 and now T5 and VF5. So why doesnt VF rule over here the way it does over there? I think is partly cuz that core audience that Tekken snatched up back then is still intact today (we all love the games we grew up with) and growing due mainly to the kid appeal of Tekken. Kids grow up playing Tekken and they become adult Tekken fans and then a new batch of kids (and adults) get hooked, but with VF it is so far advanced now that as somebody here said it makes it hard for noobs to get into. Like somebody on another board wrote "...I know you can't fight with characters & storylines. But sales are important to a game and so is popularity. And believe it or not, scrubs are important. Virtua Fighter lacks personality and thats why some non-intelligent masher will just pick up Tekken, because its cooler. This is why tekken is more popular." He's right, a lot of kids do think Tekken is "cooler", let's face it, none of the VF fighters can shoot lasers out of their eyes ;-)

P.S. That's the way we like it.

I dunno about that but all the games have been ported to a console so far. It feels better to play VF on the arcade stick than a pad. It's the 2nd fighting game that I feel comfy to play with with an arcade stick, the other game being Rival Schools. Any other fighting game, I gotta play with a pad.

Well, VF4 and VF4 Evo came to console pretty quickly after their releases, though FT didn't come out at all. Really, if all you have is console then VF4:Evo is fine. VF is an arcade game technically, but when it comes to actually playing there's not much to worry about.

I dont know anything about the "deepness" of VF but:

VF could be boring if you consider that many things you have to learn and practise to be good. Most people dont like that. You know, it's just errrrrrr game??? But sometimes, you want to something to maximize your reflex, "mindread"(strategical reasoning and hypothesis), and "mental toughness"(good attitude when you lose, you think the course of your lost instead of blaming ill luck or other's players' cheap play), VF is best to come as the game is really more balanced than other games, and it has many techiques require fast respond time/input.

VF4 is better than T5? If you want the things above? Yes! You just want simple fun and no hard work, VF is not for you. There is nothing wrong of simple fun, so it's just a personal preference.
