Great idea, even though I'm not good at Tekken. It feels like a mess to me. My Tekken Federation Name is the same as my PSN ID: Spiros_1978. I don't know if the game lets you change it.

Does the Tekken Federation thing work cross platform? Can the team be made of players on PSN and XBL?

It is not cross platform. You need a different team for the PSN group since mine is only for the xbox.

I hate the defensive options (or lack thereof in this game).

So you can get combo'd from a low move, but you also have to deal with some quick low to mid string or just some crazy strings in general, yet you can't just rely on blocking low, because if you do, you're going to get raped. But if you don't stop them hitting their low attacks on you consistently you're going to get raped. Wow @ sweeps that juggle you and result in big damage and Tag Assault combos.

Is this game trolling me right now?

Like I mentioned, the game is based on 50/50s of mid/low mixups instead of VF-esque mid/throw mixups, there wouldn't be a reason to duck otherwise. Strings, for the most part, are even more useless than VF once you get used to them; it's only a matter of time and familiarity. Lows leading to KND/small combos are high risk in general, they don't track and can also be WS launched for a full combo on block. Just like Cozby mentioned, knowledge of both standing and WS punishment (and low-parry/stepping) is extremely important to progress in this game. Of course, then you have other defensive options like reversals, parries, evasive attacks, sabakis, tech-jumping and tech-crouching (crush) attacks to play around once you get yourself familiar with the system and are fairly comfortable with basics. I would even say that pokes, guaranteed damage on the ground and oki are a lot more dangerous than juggle combos in TTT2, especially with netsu/rage.

In other new, World Tekken Federation is fully functional now and match statistics are quite nice to analyse your weaknesses and play-style. I just registered and looked at my yesterday's matches with Gutti/Sozos, it gave me a nice little summary of the damage allocation, throws, throw-breaks, lows, low-parries, counter-hits and tag related mechanics for every single match. This is an amazing service as a start and I sincerely hope they extended it to include more categories in the future.

I can't believe I forgot to add these amazing videos in my original post, keep checking www.levelupyourgame.com or their YouTube channel for updates:

Started playing this on Launch day...with the online mode actually working for Tekken I just found out how much of a world of difference there exists between this game and VF. The thing that's most difficult in this game IMHO is the movement/spacing. Play against someone who knows how to move around the map very quickly, and you stand no chance of winning at all. He just has to hit you once, and there goes 50%+ of your life in the first few seconds. In VF i suppose that can also happen but you'd have to face someone really really skilled...I wouldn't call myself very good at VF but I still have some wins and it doesn't feel like I won with just blind luck or because my character is overpowered. With TTT2 I'm not so sure.

Right now I'm maining Lars and have Christie as my secondary....Lars' problem IMHO is his lack of a good set of attacks that end with a low, or have some low attack integrated into them. He does have some low attacks but they're painfully slow! I guess that's why I put Christie in there....

In VF most characters have a good set of moves so everyone has a good chance of dealing damage but in TTT2, if you don't know how to dance around like a cockroach... you cannot win!

I do admire Namco's work in terms of getting online working and the WTF website. All that stuff is really amazing. And having so many characters and costumes and all those stages for free is really great of them. They've beaten Sega and Capcom in terms of catering to what gamers want. But the core game IMHO is hard; really, really hard. There were a lot of people saying VF is hard to learn before but after trying TTT2 I realized VF is a lot more friendly at teaching you how to play and even at a low level of skill it can be fun for all involved. With TTT2 it just isn't the case. The most skilled ones have the most fun here, and it's really easy to get discouraged after just a few games.

I have a hard time hating tekken tag 2, but I can't quite love it either. Will keep playing and maybe I'll learn how to dance around the stage like everyone else, but the uphill climb for learning this game is just incredible. I recall complaining about FADC's in Street Fighter...those are just easy now compared to what Tekken asks of players to do.

Maybe I'll just stick to fighting Ghosts just exclusively for this fighting game....

I agree 100% with your post man. I know combos, i know basics about TTT2 but the movement and spacing are the most important and difficult things in the game. Always love tekken and i would like to get into more seriously but you need infinite time to do that. Tbh i prefer to dedication my time to VF.

Lars is defnitely a dirty dude. He has some of the best punishers in the game, with f24 at -12 and fb21 at -14. His uf3 seems to be an answer for any situation, uf4 goes over lows, db4 under highs. His b2 strings and if used right theyre deadly. Overall hes just grimey.

In this game you have to kind of play your character's game more so than I feel in VF. Like with Askua she's a defensive girl and dosen't have the tools to bulldog someone. So I have to play defensively. Sure I can pressure offensively, but I don't have the mishima wavedash to put fear into the opponent of a mid high low mixup. I only have the mid mixup so I gotta work on just punishment through spacing.

Movement is for sure hard, it's different than VF but once you get it in your fingers it's second nature. I still get frustrated though.

I can move alright in the game now, after watching some videos and practicing it for hours in Practice Mode, but my defense is just ass in the game. Until I learn the cast and the strings, I'll continue to be lose.

And I agree, but hope that is the last of the inactivity for the genre. At least there is some interest now for two titles as an acceptable occasion to me.

You play Tekken with a Mindset of a 2-D game.... this is the only video game i can stay away from for months.. turn it on and be right back where i started from. I cannot do that for VF or DOA. I found Stepping in this game easier than VF4 to VF5 vanilla.. This game is mainly bait, whiff punish. The main key to a successful evade.. you must evade before the attack lol!! not during the active frames like VF. In other words... you can't just evade as a bailout you must forgo whatever idea you were thinking.. does'nt take long to learn the characters because you can do pretty good using a limited moveset long as you know the strongest situational combo. Good game could be better but Namco is the new capcom.... After T5DR.. game took a step back a bit.

I have this on both xbl and psn. Fantastic netcode. Honestly the best I've ever seen in any game, quite surprised.

I have a lot of really really high level players I know from around my area that all have it on ps3 so I decided to pick it up for that as well.

In my opinion Tekken is without a doubt the hardest fighting game I've ever played. There's just so much bullshit in this game that you have to memorize and I don't know if my brain can take all of it that quickly.

I fee l like a lot of the difficulties from the game are kind of unnecessary/artificial, but they still don't take away from the over all difficulty. For example, how difficult the throw breaking system is, how hard it is to wake up on oki, how difficult it is to side step/walk, how messed up the axis can be in this game.

Tekken is one of those games where even if I gave it my complete all, I think i'd still get destroyed by the guys I know. Experience is such a huge factor. It is the most noob unfriendly fighting game that probably exists.

Not sure if anybody caught the article that SRK posted about Tekken (it was later taken down) but I'll copy and paste it in case you missed it when it was originally posted.

I'm guessing the site caught some flack for putting the article up, but I think the writer was spot on with it, but the Tekken fans were pissed about it and SRK eventually took it down. It's an interesting read though...

I bolded some of the controversial stuff the guy was saying as well.
