TGS 2009 VF5R Last Stand (maybe).

    Someone (maybe, Reno?), time ago, spoken about the possibility to have the next VF version "Final Tuned" on console, on 2010. According to his speech, Sega is waiting for VF5 FT to release the most complete VF version on console.
    I just hope he was right...

    I'm not arguing that you can't be upset, please don't misunderstand what I wrote - and apologies if it came across that way. I completely agree that it's your prerogative to feel whatever you want. What I do take offense to, as I put in my post, is someone who chooses to advocate on my behalf to Sega.

    Additionally, I also find it frustrating to continuously see people posting mechanisms in hopes that Sega will "hear our message". It's naive and completely a grand waste of time and energy. This last point we can agree to disagree on - I will stand by my opinion that anything we write/petition/whatever to SoJ, as North American VFers, will NEVER influence their business decisions on VF releases of any kind.

    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">As for Final Tuned, it only added new stages, items, and tweaks. They didn't totally overhaul the system with new characters and moves like they did with 5R. They also didn't make it impossible to import the arcade version of 5R either. And they had already released an updated version of VF4 on consoles when FT came out, so most people conceded it was unreasonable to expect them to do a third. Don't compare the two situations like they're the same thing.</div></div>

    Introducing new characters, agreed, is far more aligned with the way VF4:Evo was made. However, VF4:FT also contained A and B choices for moves for each character. It was quite a different game than VF4:Evo and what makes it most relevant to VF5R is that it was/is the latest arcade revision of the game.

    It is not impossible to bring VF5 or VF5R overseas. It just costs a lot more than VF4:FT. It can be done, but it's more complicated than before. Trust me, if it was financially feasible (or if I was independently wealthy), VF5R would be next to the existing VF4:FT in my garage.

    First and foremost, please don't speak for me. I have no issue speaking for myself. There are very few people here that have been truly part of the loyal fanbase for 14+ yrs, and I don't know who you are, but I'm not sure you're part of that - at least not the online VF community. So, yeah, please speak for yourself and yourself only.

    Lastly, your feeling of entitlement is full of fail. These threads continously refer to a fictitious sense of "Sega owes us". Sega doesn't owe you shit. They're a business, they're not a charity, they're not a daycare. Stop thinking that what you say, do, think, feel, has an inkling of influence. Because you're simply deluding yourself, and the naive masses of novelty VF fans that browse these forums.

    VF4:FT did not come to console. And guess what? The community didn't whine about it; we accepted it and moved on. Please take note and do the same. </div></div>

    First of all I don't care about you knowing that I am one of those stupid gamers who spent their last 14 playing an outstanding game from a shitty company .And I am sure that you know that VFDC was not founded in 1994 and there are alot of other fans who did not join /stop posting because of people like you .

    Yeah SEGA owes me nothing rather than a straight answer ""No it won't be released on console "" Instead of putting me on the edge of jumping the ship or stay in it .

    Anyway , I don't care about VF anymore not until Sega knows how to deal with me .

    Ok, you don't care who I am, I'm with you so far...

    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">And I am sure that you know that VFDC was not founded in 1994...</div></div>

    Just a small hint for you, in a nutshell, it went like this: rec.games.video.arcade --> VFhome (the website, not the iRC channel) --> ACPC --> VFDC.

    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">...and there are alot of other fans who did not join /stop posting because of people like you .</div></div>

    Whoa. What? So, you were an avid reader of the above iterations of the VF community, but did not join or post because of people like me? Hmm. Ok. But you played VF avidly and met up with people to play it in the arcades, right? Or you played avidly on the Dreamcast and met up with people at gatherings? Or...I guess what I'm trying to figure out here is that you are *that guy*: the avid VFer who's been playing all this time and apparently read the FAQs, the posts, etc., but never chimed in until registering in 2009 on VFDC? I'm impressed, that's some serious stamina for never getting involved until now.

    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Yeah SEGA owes me nothing rather than a straight answer ""No it won't be released on console "" Instead of putting me on the edge of jumping the ship or stay in it. Anyway , I don't care about VF anymore not until Sega knows how to deal with me . </div></div>

    I lose sleep all the time over it too. :p

    My advice to you: Play VF if you enjoy it. And keep playing it if you enjoy it. Stop worrying about what Sega's next move is.

    eh this reminds me of how boyfriends try to beg for there GFs back after getting dumped...
    whining and ultimatums dont really work, you gotta make it worthwhile for THEM they dont care what your getting out of it they wanna know what they can get.
    clearly SEGA doesn't think its financially sound to send us VF5R, or they would have done it by now. HOWEVER it is pretty dick of them to not give us ANY CLOSURE WHAT SO EVER. CMON, JUST TELL US ITS NOT COMING SO WE CAN MOVE ON :*(

    Actually, you're probably right that appealing to Sega of Japan is not the best option right now. Sega of America and Sega of Europe have just undergone a major restructuring into Sega West, with a new President to top it off. Maybe we need to try to "convince" him that he has the vision to bring VF5R to the west in a profitable way. [IMG]

    At this point of time Llainfiar it is impossible to bring VF5R overseas.

    SOJ does not sell VF5R. They currently lease the game to arcade operators on a monthly basis I believe. Coin-op distributors do not have access to the game. Even if you were to get your hands on a Lindbergh kit with the game you won't be able to boot it because the game must have an active link to a VF.net server

    LA_Akira actually spoke to SOJ reps in a visit to Japan to buy VF5R and they turned him down basically saying the game is not for sale.

    I'm not going claim to know what the relationship between SoJ, SoA, and SoE is like. I really have no idea. However, in the past, it has seemed like SoA is very limited in its business decisions regarding games like VF.

    Supposedly Yakuza 4 is going to be there in some form, despite not being on the official site . . . so keep hope alive for another 3 weeks that there will be more unannounced games.

    until that hope is cruelly and inevitably crushed by sega[/size]

    Sega Reveals Tokyo Game Show Lineup

    [Source: Kotaku]

    Can you believe that the Tokyo Game Show is mere weeks away? Sega's ready, laying out its plans for the show, offering a list of games that will be on display at the Makuhari Messe.

    The list includes a list of titles we expect to be playable, like Bayonetta and The House of the Dead: Overkill, plus some we're not expecting to be playable. That includes games like Yakuza 4—it's highlighted on the official site, but not listed under Sega's lineup, curiously—and End of Eternity (aka Resonance of Fate), but you never know.

    * Yakuza 4 (PS3)
    * Bayonetta (PS3, 360)
    * End of Eternity (PS3, 360)
    * Puyo Puyo 7 (Wii, DS, PSP)
    * Chin Sports (aka Wacky World of Sports) (Wii)
    * The House of the Dead: Overkill (Wii)
    * Phantasy Star Portable 2 (PSP)
    * Valkyria Chronicles 2 (PSP)
    * J-League Pro Soccer Club o Tsukurou! 6: Pride of J

    I'm pretty sure the game will get a release over here.

    They're still working out the kinks of the current build of R though right? I've seen enough videos of silly things happening to decide it's definitely not a final build.

    The game is still playable in Japan either way you look at it. A number of people on these boards make visits to Japan for whatever reason.

    Yeh, the game looks immense and I wish I have it infront of me right now too but until then I'm perfectly content with just playing VF5. (It would make it easier to enjoy VF5 instead of grieving over R if you guys would start playing/talking about VF5 more on these boards too)

    Hm. Well, I already sent an email a long time ago, and I suspect that it wouldn't matter if I sent another.

    So I'm just gearing up for Tekken 6 (although I haven't been a Tekken fan since 3, and don't even really like how 6 looks)... maybe I'll fire the 360 back up and try to catch back up with all you new Brad-ists.

    Anyway, it seems to me that if console R was going to happen, it would have happened by now. Hope I'm wrong, but I've got a bad feeling we won't be hearing anything VF-related for another year or two. Maybe.

    Re: TGS 2009 VF5R Last Stand

    part of the reason i think sega wont release the game over here is because it would be a total waste of money, the gaming scene as a whole in america rejected vf too hard, not enough characters oh and my favorite "it doesnt look like the hits hurt" etc etc. none of these complaints have anything to do with the core aspects of the game but people are just ignorant and do know a good game when they see one. i think sega knows that they cant compete with tekken 6 when it releases over here. so in the end its technicaly we killed vf in america not sega

    WE didn't do anything. SEGA cannot promote for shit. It really isn't to hard.

    * Create a killer Training Mode in the game
    * Hold a National Tournament with HUGE stakes
    * Have a presence at BIG tournaments... ala EVO
    * Have more than one commercial that is only shown on release week. Maybe character specific commercials. Add the SEGA yell.
    * Don't hold back things from the arcade version....aka have the same items and features.
    * Integrate the arcade version with the home version. It can't be that hard have 2 extra ports for a Memory Card for PS3 and XB360. this could help push the game in Japan (Arcade and Console)
    * Expand on the good netcode with more lobby features... but DON'T bring in more lag.
    * Go crazy on the DLC... Items Items Items and able to upgrade to the newest version (Version A, Version B, etc...)
    * Ask your fans from all over the world on what they would like to see in a console game.
    * PROMOTE PROMOTE PROMOTE
    * If VF5FT is coming. Wait to release the newest and LAST version of VF5... I can wait for that.

    Re: TGS 2009 VF5R Last Stand

    This is what I would do if I were Sega...

    - Strip out all the items, prizes, etc. out of VF5R console (you'll see why in a minute)

    - Release a retail version of VF5R at the lowest price possible without losing money on production and distribution, maybe $9.99

    - Release a download version of VF5R for FREE. That's right. FREE

    - Charge for virtual goods. I.e., you want Costume E? Pay 50 cents. Want that cool win pose? Pay 20 cents. Etc.

    Result?

    - A shit load of players, because the game is free. We're happy. The ecosystem thrives. VF gets picked up by every tournament out there

    - As hardcore players, we spend so much money on this game anyway, what's a few bucks to get extra items?

    - There are also going to be a lot of geeks who just want to deck out their characters

    - Sega can keep churning out items to keep the game fresh -- and they'll have a financial incentive to do so

    - Sega will hopefully actually make money from VF
