What's the biggest question I have of VF5? It's gotta be the hardware used. VF used to showcase the best arcade boards of the time- ie: the model boards by Lockheed Marietta.

But then VF4 broke the tradition by being on a "economy" boards, ie: DC variant Naomi.

What will Sega, specifically AM2 use this time around? With Sega consistently in the red, it's almost a guarantee that the Model boards are things of the past, and not a financial option. Also, with Sega out of the hardware business, it won't be on any of their hardware. Or will they continue r&d on arcade specific hardware. More realistically, I think Sega will make it on next generation (PS3, XBox board variants). Think about it- quick & cheap translation to home. Who will Sega sign the deal with? VF is a commodity in Japan that could sway the purchases next generation.

When it's all said and done though, I hope they address the VF3 undulation issue, and incorporate some of it again in VF5. Maybe not the undulations, but something other than a square ring. Playing VF3 again, I miss fighting on Jeff's island, and seeing the tide coming and going.

And one other thing. I wish they'd have more costumes. Maybe bring back the 2P costumes of the past games. Sarah in her leopard top is a good thing. Or her low waisted jeans. And yeah, seeing Pai in a more updated upscale Hong Kong business look, or in jeans would freshen her up.
