Not seen that much of Arona tbh, any links to that fight?

CroCop v Kongo will be interesting. Kongo looks like the Black Arnie, just his ground game that is weak apparently which hopefully won't come into play.

Anybody else watching the human weapon series on history channel? It is really well done. Ep 2 is about escrima, or whacking people with sticks!

anyone seen fight science on discovery channel? it's pretty awesome

I thought fight science was more or less retarded. How do you ignore a basic thing like weight when determining the power of a strike?

Fightscience was one of the dumbest shows i have ever watched.

There were countless moments when my bullshit detector was going off, but when you say that boxing is not a martial art, the shit just hits the fan.

i agree fight science is alright but human weapon is a pretty dope show if your into self defense. i wish i could travel to those countries and train with the locals

Yea I watched it and have the dailymotion links if anyone needs them. Anytime they start talking about the samurai or go into anything weapons oriented i immediately tune it out because it's just fairytale.

Also, the reason why judo is considered an inferior grappling art was highlighted in the episode. The one host (who legit trains at 10th planet jiujitsu) was setting up a triangle choke and had his legs figure 4'd with an arm in (wrong side so not seriously dangerous), but the judo guy stalled out and got a standup. in BJJ and real fighting... you can't stall your way out of a choke like that, you actually have to do something -- something that judo doesn't address since they just call matte.

the judo BB was legit though and that tai otoshi at the end was about as flawless as it gets.

you mean the bit about using jujitsu since punches and kicks were ineffective against a body armoured samurai?
The origins of the art, the history?...0_o

I like the history bits to be honest this series has been pretty good in showing a good mix of things.

Apparently I read that the fights at the end of the programme are works where the outcome and what happens is decided as it's best suited for t.v.
It did look like that mma dude was tapping out some Blackbelts earlier though, with the looks on their faces they must have wised up to the fact he was no grappling begginner.

    On the point of stalling,
In MMA and Bjj fights I've seen plenty of people stall through points and sub situations, since their operating under a sports system, guess there not real fighting either...

Who is Judo considered an inferior grappling art by? Source and quotes please?

Judo has better throws than Bjj period, Bjj overall has better ne waza/ground work, it's what they train in most that their obviously going to be better at. Both arts come from the same base more or less.

It's impossible for me to directly source something as subjective as that. In terms of MMA training though, wrestling and jiujitsu are the preferred grappling arts. This is simply evidenced by the fact that very few pro fighters have specific judo training (whereas the vast majority do have specific wrestling and jiujitsu training).

Judo is an excellent martial art and I'm absolutely dumbfounded by how some guys at the judo place i train at can completely ragdoll me.

well just the way you phrased it makes it sound as if it's commonly known I was just curious to see any quotes or sources to that effect.
If it's your own personal opinion then fair enough.

I'd say it's a problem in the Judo schools not teaching solid ground skills to be honest.
The way the scroing system works there probably isn't a need to focus as much on those techniques,
maybe they should revise the scoring system... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
I must admit seeing Karo Parisyan throw people about in Mma is sick, hopefully we'll see that soukojou (Spelling*) do some cool throws in the future too.
