    Fedor whupped ass as expected.
For me, the story of the night was Belfort showing signs of greatness again. I am so happy for him. Carlson is smiling up in heaven.

I wasn't sure what I found more funny: The commentators saying that Alrlovksi has a "suspect chin" or the "he was winning until he lost" exclamations. I guess you gotta say *something*. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Arlovski was controlling the fight, too bad he was stupid and got overconfident. His boxing and speed was doing well, why the hell would he do a flying knee.

Wow, anti-air homing punch ftw. Fedor is too good. He saw the flying knee coming and he put his left arm across his body to defend it and still threw mean hook (MC, lol) at a moving opponent that landed with pinpoint accuracy /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif Freaking beast!

Sick KO by Belfort. It looked like Lindland took that hard punch on the chin instead of on the temple so he'll be better off in the long run than Arlovski who looked like he took it right on the temple /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

Btw, I liked the fight between Lyttle and The Irish Hand Grenade (forgot his name, lol) in the last UFC but Lyttle shouldn't have played his game, he shoulda took it to the ground.

Arlovski can control the fight as much as he wanted, but was fedor in trouble? Not really :p

I bought the M-1 on PPV and it was just as good as ~99% of UFCs I've seen, and I usually buy 3 out of 4 UFCs on PPV. I like to watch them on Saturday nights as something to do and my fiance enjoys them just as much as me, so it's all good.

M-1 nailed it with all the heavy-weight bouts; they showed off what UFC does not have enough of. Brock Lesnar is definitely a compelling fighter, no doubt about it; maybe the UFCs bread and butter for the future. I know many people don't care about the weight class, Uriah Faber is as fun to watch as anyone, but the n00bish MMA masses don't understand.

I have a friend at work who always wants to try to talk about MMA with me. I told him to watch a WEC fight, Charlie Valencia VS Ian McCall (one of the best fights I've ever seen, so hot!), and the first thing he says is, "how big are they???"

It doesn't really mean anything but these are the same people whose first video-game system ever is a Wii (btw, the aggregate score for ALL games is <65%, which is really fucking bad considering most reviewers never give less than a 50%!!!) The XBOX 360 and PS3 have 2-3 times more games rated 85% and over, yet people still buy the Wii like it's going out of style.

Lesnar and Fedor (or really any other really freakishly powerful heavy weight) have the Mike Tyson "most dangerous man in the world" factor. GSP is a great fighter but Fedor will make mince-meat of him in a matter of seconds; Fedor is a freak of nature... Lesnar the same. These huge heavy weights are just way more marketable than 150 lb shit-talking-machines like BJ Penn. In reality, BJ Penn would probably die if he fought Fedor or Lesnar...

My point being, M1 has a chance to eclipse UFC just because their whole card is heavily tilted towards larger weight classes. I'm pretty sure there was no one under light heavy weight even on the card. All of the fights were between some HUGE brawlers and it makes for good television... I don't know what else to say.

If your MMA league has the fighter that people agree is, "the BEST, most dangerous fighter in the world" you have a great chance at being the most popular too, your guy is the one that the "bar" is measured by.

    no,
it was a very good event but production was lacking in certain areas,
higher weight divisions on a whole = less skill,
as mma is a sport you want to see skills showcased, having stacked division of all different weight classes is the way to do this.
p.s I would hardly call Fedor or Arlovski huge brawlers..
p.p.s first fight was under light heavyweight as was the fight post fedor bout which wasn't' aired

No... Fedor and Arlovski aren't skilled???? That doesn't make any sense bro.

I meant "brawlers" as a synonym for "fighters"... Not so literally as to say they're just in there swinging away like Bob Sapp.

@Opti, the vid you posted below... Is that what you thought M-1 looked like last night? Not even close. That's fucking stupid.

I wasn't saying that Arlovski was winning, nor would he have won, but at least he was giving himself a good chance with his initial game plan.

He gave that chance away by taking a huge risk with the flying knee.

brawlers, how do you define that word?
Arlovski hardly "brawled" and neither did Fedor, am I missing something here?
To clarify confusion I said Heavy weights on a WHOLE are less skilled.
    huge brawler: <object width="480" height="295"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5o7lrNQZ8K8&"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5o7lrNQZ8K8&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="480" height="295"></embed></object>

I wasn't to know how you intend to use certain words, I prefer to use the intended meaning of words especially on the internet as it avoids confusion.
You call a boxer or someone that refines their technique in a similar manner a brawler it's a straight up insult, in my humble opinion.
I thought last nights event was great where did I say that was a comparison vid? I was posting it as an example of a huge brawler, Bobb Sapp. What's fucking stupid is to assume things /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
Anyways this is getting off topic I'm out.

???Fedor is not a "huge heavyweight" by any means....
And who cares if BJ would lose to fedor and lesnar, talk about irrelevant.

I like the way he can go from seemingly being in a backed up situation to instant offence in the blink of an eye. He's been in alot more trouble before, Randlman, Fujita, Hunt, Hong Man Choi, Lindland (with the cut) but then he always pulls out the magiks /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Ah unlucky dude thanks for posting nice fights, how come you were giving up so much weight advantage? Was that an arm triangle he caught at the end couldn't see it clearly?

  18. Shadowdean

    Shadowdean Well-Known Member

Yeah, it was an arm triangle that I got caught on. To be honest, I probably could of escaped, I just kind of gave up which is a-typical of me. Was a bunch of fun though! I almost always have to give up a ton of weight being that I walk around 114

Does anyone else here prefer the ring to the cage? I feel like the "cage" is pretty damn gimmicky. I always preferred PRIDE to UFC, not just cause I thought the fighters were better but I feel that the cage plays too big a role in the fight. Part of the strategy of UFC has become using the cage correctly and I just wish it wasn't like that. Especially in TUF, the coaches are always yelling, "push him against the cage!"

I just don't feel that the particular barrier around the ring should make any difference in the fight. If they get too close to the edge you just reset them, getting pinned against the fence of the cage is making the ring play too big a part in the fight.

    Just my humble opinion...

Why not just have a cage made of ice over a giant lava pit? Would that be gimmicky enough???

@Shadowdean - that's not my idea of a good time but I respect you for loving your sport enough to fight heavier dudes cause that's what's out there for you. That's just awesome and very courageous of you man! MUCH props!

Yeah, I like how DREAM and Affliction use the ring personally.

ShadowDean: Despite him getting the better of you in the standup, you looked like you were constantly working for a sub on the ground. Good Fight.
