The game is hot. The levels are amazingly huge and have a visual depth unlike any other FPS to date. They also have amazing verticality, like when you're looking at guys coming over a hill and down onto your position it looks very cool.

ONE HUGE ISSUE: WTF is up with EA servers?!? They seriously suck penis! There was at least an hour or two last night where I couldn't even get into multiplayer at all. On launch day that really sucks and makes EA look bad. Plus, I've had this same exact problem with other Battlefield titles like 1943 for example.

Why can they not learn from their mistakes? It's shameful.

Yeah, the game runs quite well on my year and a half old mid-range gaming machine too. 1920x1200 is taxing on radeon 4850 to an extent but yeah, it blows what I've seen of 1943 on console out of the water, both framerate and resolution-wise. Weird thing - I noticed HDAO really cut into the performance of the game by causing stuttering, but the framerate wouldn't chug like you'd imagine. Is that a CPU intensive feature, or something? I don't get it.

Well, DICE says they are now 'looking into' connectivity issues. Apparently they released a new version of the server yesterday. I tried playing this morning but I couldn't even get it to refresh without a connection error. Seriously, billing dedicated servers as a 'feature', taking digs at MW2 (the game deserves it but know your place EA) and not even being able to deliver on it is shameful to say the least.

Well I play on the XBOX 360 and was having serious issues trying to get into a game on release day. I would get dropped from a game and then get different error messages trying to connect after that.

HOWEVER...

Someone posted a workaround for this problem on 360 and it WORKS!!!

What to do when you can't get back into a game on 360:

• Hit the system menu button on the controller and press X to sign out of XBOX LIVE.
• When you do this you will get kicked back to the title screen. Then at the title screen press start and select your gamer tag when prompted.
• You will now log back into LIVE and EA servers.
• Go to multi-player and search for a game and you will get into a game where you couldn't before.

NOTE: You still have to do this even if you get the glitch where it drops you back to the dashboard. Just load the game back up and follow the sames steps and you will be fine again.

I don't know why this works but it definitely does.

EDIT: Anyone want to squad up on XBOX tonight??? pwetty pwease?

I got my copy yesterday limited edition, plus I pre-ordered it so I get a bonus AK-74. I'm in the process of getting my new computer and this is one of the first games I'm installing. When I get it up and running I'll let you guys know; VFDC squad is going to mow down everyone. [IMG]

My initial impression after several hours of play time:

OVERALL:

This game is really sick, addictive and enjoyable! It's just as good as MW2 in my opinion; a totally different type of game, but still just as good.

Here's a high level breakdown with a few details of what I like...

LEVELS/STAGES:

These multiplayer stages are huge and expansive, seriously they are really big. The stages are very open and the altitudes change by hundreds of feet in some levels. The verticality is truly amazing, the landscape makes the game feel very real and authentic. DICE managed to give to game engine/graphics a very realistic depth. Things that are far away look and feel far away. Graphically, they convey the distance and depth of the horizon(s) really well. The vegetation is very well done and it can really conceal you well if you stay still or move slow. If there's a sniper in a ghillie suit hiding beneath a tree, or in some bushes, he's going to be VERY hard to spot.

Possibly, they may have left the prone position out because allowing players to go prone might have been OP, they'd really be too hard to spot. Further, you can't just run around the whole time trying to flank the enemy. The maps are MUCH bigger and there's a lot of choke points on each level. You're actually better of trying to hold their line back than trying to run across open ground to flank them. You're probably not even going to be able to do it effectively without an ATV, and those are in limited supply. It feels A LOT more like a real battlefield where one army is trying to advance on another as opposed to a bunch of people running around, trying to flank, with very little organization. Also, the spawns don't switch around like they do in MW2 so if you manage do pin them down you have a better advantage. It's not like you kill the whole team and then they just spawn at the other side of the map all of the sudden, geography matters...

CUSTOMIZATIONS:

You have really good class customization as well. It's not a custom class type of thing though, you are limited to customizing the 4 classes, and it works very well for this game. Also, there are some other options which exhibit very neat balancing -- there are certain generic weapons that all classes can use. Therefore, you could equip your Assault class with a generic gun like the M1A1 assault rifle to allow you to carry some good old, armor-shredding C4 in your secondary slot. You give up some stopping power, using the slightly inferior gun, but you up your vehicle destroying power big time. Nothing like being able to take down a tank when you need to...

As I said above, there are 4 classes you can play as/customize:

-Assault: A somewhat general infantry class designed to engage enemies at mid-close range. Their main weapons are Assault Rifles which are equipped with different under-barrel attachments like a grenade launcher, smoke launcher or shotgun. He can also resupply team mates with ammunition boxes.

-Engineer: This class rolls with silenced sub machine guns and rocket launchers as secondaries. Engineers are a hardy class and they are deadly in short range situations where their silenced guns help keep them off enemy radars. These guys can fire silently, repair vehicles with their drill tool and can also take enemy vehicles out quickly via rockets.

-Medic: Loaded out with LMGs and the ability to revive fallen players. The medic has serious fire-power and I would call them heavy infantry, they can help the team a lot. He also has heath boxes he can drop as well. I have to admit it is interesting to me that the medic is also such a good fighter.

-Recon: Snipers equipped ghillie suits and long-range scopes (great for "spotting" bad guys). BTW, long-range is looong range in this game, the Recon can engage from some serious distance! Can also unlock an attachment which "spots" enemies automatically just by looking at them down the scope. They can also attach 12x magnification to the sight rail of their weapon.

GAME PLAY:

I like the game play very much and teamwork is the way to go. You can't win with one or two good players on a team of 12. You have to work together and use your classes' special skills to support your fellow soldiers, you will be rewarded for it generously. For example, there is a mechanic called "spotting" which allows you to spot an enemy/enemies and alert your team mates. Enemies that have been spotted will be marked for several seconds with an orange beacon on the screen and mini-map for you AND all your team mates. Spotting can really help your team and prevent someone from getting snuck up on. When you spot someone and they are killed you get 20 points just for spotting them for your friends to kill. If you resupply your team mates or heal them you get points too. Just being in a vehicle that gets a kill will give you points as well. Team work is obviously the goal and the system rewards you for it...

Also, the squad system is back and is still pretty awesome. You get even higher rewards for assisting those in your squad so it's doubly encouraged to help your close boys out. If a regular resupply is worth 10 points (when you help resupply a regular team mate), it's worth 20 points if you resupply one of your squad mates. Then you get the squad respawns which help you hold the front line. If someone in your squad is alive you can respawn next to them. This gets you back into the fight and helping your team a lot faster than having to run or drive from your teams home base (initial spawn point...)

One more thing that is cool: When you stab someone with your combat knife, you take their dog tags as a permanent reminder of the kill. You can build up a huge collection of enemy dog tags if you're good with knife. Something about that little souvenir that is just awesome... What a cool idea!!!

Lars VFDC has struck again by the way... This game came out three days ago, THREE DAYS.

I am currently at level 8 for my rank. I have played a decent amount in the past couple of days, like at least 10 hours or so.

Lars VFDC (same dude who has 35,000 kills in MW2) is already at level 24!!!

Firstly, the difference in the amount of XP you need to gain a level from level 8 to level 24 (three times my level) goes up exponentially as you gain levels, so Lars must have an absolute shitload of XP already.

I feel like I have played a good amount but this guy is insane. How could he possibly be level 24 already??? Please tell me.

Here's a link to another Denkirson chart for BFBC2 weapons... Updated 09-Mar-10.

This data is taken straight from the game code...

http://denkirson.xanga.com/722757523/bad-company-2/

I'm not sure if you have to multiply all the damages by x1.25

The damage was increased between the Beta and the Retail release.

Is there an option to disable this weird dithering effect that I haven't seen in 10 years in computer games?

Yeah Leonard,

There's definitely some graphical glitches. They're pretty unpredictable too. I had one yesterday where there was a white cloud flickering in the background. It would appear and disappear really fast and was obviously a glitch of some type.

I am happy to say however that I did not have ANY server issues last night and was able to play uninterrupted all night. Seems like they've finally got that server-down/server-full/can't find a match crap ironed out...

I really think this game is pretty sweet. It's awesome that you get rewarded generously for helping your team and doing your specific job while trying to win.

I opened up the M14 semi automatic rifle last night and it's a pretty interesting weapon. It has 10 rounds in a clip, does huge damage and is pretty accurate. Plus, it's a general weapon so any class can use it. The M14 is designed for "marksman" duties and allows you to switch it up when you need some range and stopping power (helps engineers cause they're pretty short-range fighters) or you need to counter snipe without being a recon.

BTW, I literally scored 16,000+ points in one round last night, it was absurd. I had like 20 medals or more for that one round! You do NOT want to run into me when I'm on the stationary HMG. I will rock you and your whole squad! [IMG]

Those are some strong words coming from a game that doesn't even HAVE dedicated servers. [IMG]

Personally I have no issues with the graphics.
