I've recently finished the graphic novel but wasn't sure or not whether to see the movie. Based on what some people have said... it may be good to watch with girlfriend/lube.

That owl dude reminds me so much of Batman. I wonder if.... nah it can't happen. I'll say it anyway. If Batman would fight the Owl dude. That would be weird cause of the similarities between the two. I'll laugh to death if Batman gets beat. Huha!

    On the Comedian:
Did he see the squid? I never got that from the book. I always thought that he cracked because he realized that he agreed with Veidt that the only way to save the world was te declare war upon it. In fact, he always held that war was humanity's default state and the only way to bring peoples together (illustrated throughout the whole of his career). He never had the guts to take it to the extreme Veidt did though. He treated the whole thing like a big joke and crashed when someone made his joke a reality (the Pagliacci joke ref plays heavily on this).

I kinda agree with the Dr Manhattan being American. But New York and Los Angeles were also among the targets. It wouldn't take a lot of persuading to get people to realize that the states were hit just as hard as everyone else. Especially after that tv broadcast where he flipped and the news that he had vanished from the planet (the 'enemy' knew this as evidenced by the posturing of the tanks along the broder of some country of which I always forget the name).

I just saw the blu-ray version. I had never read the graphic novel. This was one of coolest movies I have ever seen. It looks and sounds amazing and is very entertaining. The reviews I read were all over the place, I think because the reviewers had no pigeonhole into which they could stuff WM.

The story is a complete evisceration of Post-JFK America and the idea of American exceptionalism as embodied by the American idea of the comic book super-hero, which was always a little weird and fascist to begin with. That scene where Dr. Manhattan obliterates those Vietnamese peasants or when the Comedian shoots that Vietnamese girl...

The writer and the director should be applauded for being able to tell a story that deals so deftly with that particular subject matter while still being really entertaining.

Best comic book movie of all time, though I feel that that does not do it justice.

Didn't Solid Snake write the screenplay for Watchmen?

I'm still so torn about this movie and it isn't just because I read the comic first. I think they handled a few things very clumsily and although that is likely due to the time budget versus the material I still have a hard time with it. That said, they did a very good job of bringing the comic book to life and while - at the end - I don't think I'm a fan of the movie I do appreciate that people seem to really dig the movie.

for my money, best comic book movie still belongs to Iron Man. I think that movie rocks.

It was an awesome movie but c'mon who suspected the twist as soon as the mr.fantastic guy killed the guy in the plaza lobby?

My favourite bit was when rorschach died, real heart renching. But he kinda deserved it because he was ginger.

aside from the fact that the gifted Rorschach with superhuman qualities (something he was lacking in the comic) he, and the actor who played him were standouts for this film.

as an aside, I'll never understand the hysteria you folk have with redheads.

They are freaks of nature! Mutants! From a recessive gene, but soon they will die out so we wil be free from thier pale complexions and soulless eyes.

watching it now - interesting to leave the comic behind and watch it with only a small amount of bias. It's better than I remembered although they cut some important scenes - that would make it a much better movie - and had fight scenes extended where it wouldn't make sense for a fight to be longer than a couple of seconds.

still going though and I'm glad you resurrected this thread because I likely wouldn't have given it a second viewing otherwise.

    I hear that.

I went to see it in the cinema and there was a point where I thought the movie was about to wrap up and to my suprise there was another 40 or so minutes of it.

I didn't hate the movie, I quite enjoyed it but it felt about a third too long.

I understand that they are trying to keep as much of the comic in it as they can (I even heard they cut parts out) but it really dragged.

I can't think of a point where the movie could be cut either, to make it into two movies so as to preserve the comic in its entirity and at the same time making it more managable for the viewing public. I don't normally care about the length of a movie but when it stops and starts like this one did it really makes it seem almost unbearable.

I loved the fact that it was long, I've watched it 3 times already! It's such a rich experience, I don't know how to describe it but it was just solid. Keep in mind that I've never read the comic so I don't know how well it was faithful to it, but maybe that just made the experience better I don't know.

I can't imagine how the movie would have turned out if they cut the length time, I thought it was perfect.
