Really, it is ok to play T6. Whatever anyone likes is fine as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.

There are plenty of reasons that people may not want to jump ship besides not wanting to lose at a game that they are unfamiliar with.

    Like...

    1) A person might think that the character design and art direction were conceived after Namco first conducted focus group interviews with 13 year old boys to discern what they consider "cool" and "tough"

    2) In order to be different, Namco has implemented inferior systems in the game that are overall less logical and elegant than VF's.

    3) The physics and movement are so cartoonish that it diminishes any sense of immersion.

Sure there are probably good things about T6, but for me I'd still be playing VF3 before I'd try mastering breakdancing guy, or kangaroo, or robot man, or effeminate winged demon guy...

But that's just me. If that is your thing, enjoy!

If you play a game you like that is all that matters. It is obvious people still like to play outdated games like VF5 version C or DOA4 as it was mentioned earlier, and these games still have a presence in the gaming world even if it is small when compared to the most popular games around . As long as a player has the urge to play any game do so right away don't let alot of minor issues get in the way of that simple as that.

w00t! Another knob jockey who hasn't bothered to read!

Virtually everyone is playing Tekken here, seems to be a lot more than we did with the other games you mentioned too.

    1) Virtua Fighter is a sport in its own right

    2) If ppl are playing fighting games anywhere there will
be ppl playing virtua fighter somewhere

    3) Virtua Fighter is the standard for 3D fighting games
and that is not likely to change anytime soon

    4) Virtua Fighter is never going to be the hottest,
most hyped fighter. It never has been, and never
will be. Just because there is no hype or no new
release, does not mean that the VF scene is dead or
even dying. There are more people playing VF now
than at any time in the past. So what if more ppl
are playing COD4, BB, Tekken BR, AC2,etc.

    5) When VF legends move on 4 whatever reason, there are
always new players to replace them. New legends
    waiting their turn.

    6) VF 5 version B on PS3 version C on Xbox are of such
high quality that they are good enough for the life
span of the PS3 and the XBox 360. So even if there
is no new release on the consoles, both versions
squeeze most of the power out of the PS3 and XBox 360
notice that vanilla VF5 graphics are still far
superior to Tekken 6BR. Tekken 6BR still has
edge detection and clipping problems [IMG]

    7) The game Virtua Fighter, VFDC, the players, the
VF tournaments, the VFDC community, are all part
of one of the greatest stories told and most important
genres in the invention of the video game. Every punch
thrown, and kick blocked is literally history in the
making. We should all just enjoy what we have, while we
have it. We should recognize that the people who excel
at fighting games (regardless of whether its VF,SC,
Tekken, SF, BB,etc) are some of the most talented gamers
on the planet because fighting games in general require
more skill, speed, dexterity, eye-hand-coord, and
cognitive preparation than just about any other kind
    of video game.

Its not about whether there is life in VF or not. Its about the place that the fighting game genre currently holds in the context of other genres of video game. The year 2009 is proof that the fighting game genre is alive and well with the release of so many fighting games that resulted in millions of units sold (millions!) and believe or not VF has gotten its share.

We should train often, we should train hard, we should be prepared at all times to represent the best fighting game system on the planet. Because, if ppl are playing fighting games anywhere, there's somebody playing VF somewhere and the last thing you want to have happen is to have your ass kicked by some young punk upstart 10 kyu who has visions of being
    the best. [IMG]

You said that people on VFDC are fine with people playing other games but not Tekken, I said that's not the case...

If that's me taking your post out of context then i'm mad crazy.

Nah man, every forum probably does this. Atleast I know SRK does this for sure though.

On srk it's pretty much worse, how people get if you're playing something else but SF. Especially when it comes to Brawl/Melee.

On SRK, VF almost doesn't even exist. That's how messed up it is. Sometimes instead of outright dissing a game, like what can happen here... on srk for VF's example they just don't even acknowledge the shit is there.

    ------

Thing about srk though is that the flame tolerance is different, so a discussion like this is tame, but on VFDC people think this is a discussion blown out of proportion.

Maybe there was a misunderstanding about what I was referring to, and I was going to write out a proper reply and quote the statements on this thread and a few other threads, but you know what? It's simply not worth my time.

    Carry on gentlemen.

Yes, the civility is refreshing. Furthermore, erstwhile VFers who are now maining the flying, sexually ambiguous eye-laser shooting demon are not guilty of heresy (just apostasy).

Say what you want about Devil Jin but his eye lasers make Scenario Mode a walk in the park. I could beat Scenario Mode using DJ with my eyes closed.

Strangely enough in person [i.e. while I was NEC] when I'd tell players in the SF tournies I was a VF5 player they had mad respect for the game. It's intresting how they all understand that it's a hard game to play and thought provoking, yet when pressed to play it they say it's just not fun or w/e. The most common response I got was "oh I wanted to pick that up but it's just too complex for me. I wish I could play it though".

Granted my little dog Foof-Viper might have been causing the gamers to lose all sense of mental facilities.

I think since there's respect for the game and series, it won't get outright dissed, instead just ignored.

Cause if someone disses VF, they'd probably think it would reflect upon them being a fighting game scrub or something.

I know I touched on this subject before but want to retouch again now that I am playing Tekken 6 as well.

From the dawn of VF1 we had this bullshit over and over. You will hear a crapload of people saying this: Yeah, VF is a deep game. VF is a complex game. VF is a trenscendental and enlightment inducing game. VF makes me proud of being a Sega fanboy and Yu Suzuki closet groupie. . . Except no one goddamn plays the game.

Obviously those non-VF playing Sega fanboys had no frigging idea what they were talking about. But what about the the VF players ourselves? Did we scare away potential players by overhyping (read: bullshitting) VF's complexity? Sure VF is hard to master and hard to become a world champion, but that's no more true for VF compared to any thing else including Tekken and basket weaving. I never understood the saying that VF is difficult to learn BECAUSE IT'S NOT! It's hard to master, but it's as easy as any other fighter to learn and start playing. There is a big difference.

Getting good at Tekken is just as hard as VF if not harder. It's just difficult in different ways as the focus of the games are different. At high level plays, in any game, it all boils down to defense, not offense that makes a difference. And in Tekken if you want to master defense there are mind boggling things to learn given there are roughly two million characters with four billion moves. And in Tekken game mechanics are more "analog" than the "discreet" VF. (A little more like the way VF3 used to be.) so there are just more variables. In VF4 defense is not more complex than Tekken, just difficult in a different way.

I say this not to argue Tekken is better or worse or whatever (to each his own) but I sincerely believe the haughty attitude of VFers have done far more harm to the popularity of VF than it ever helped. I don't think anybody picked up the books written by David Hume because s/he heard it was a difficult read. Nobody ever started playing a video game because they were told it was difficult to learn or complex.
