There's life left in VF5!

Nice post, Hyunster. It's about time that we stop promoting this game as "the most difficult fighter to learn" or "the fighter with the toughest learning curve" and all that other stuff that does more to push players away rather than pull them in.

I never thought about it before even though I have been guilty of doing this negative promoting. Now that I think about it, I had a tougher time learning Street Fighter than I did learning VF. There weren't any fireballs, shoryukens or charge moves in VF back then. I never played competitively until VF4Evo and even though it wasn't as intuitive as Tekken's button-for-each-limb setup or Tekken's automatic guarding (stick on neutral) I had an easier time understanding what to do and not do in VF2 than in Tekken 3.

Not making a case for either game bc I've learned that it's useless to try. Hardly anybody (nobody?) changes their mind about what game is better bc of a point of view presented here or anywhere else for that matter. I like what I like... and you like what you like... that's it.
It's silly to keep trying to convince or present your case on why one game is "superior" than the other.
If somebody prefers and thinks that Smash Brothers is a deeper and better fighter than VF/Tekken/SF and all other fighters out there... so what? That's how THEY feel, that's THEIR point of view. You could talk to them about how "wrong they are" but that's like arguing about what color is better...

A: "I like blue, I think blue looks better than red."
B: "What are you stupid??? Hell no, red looks better. Here, let me tell you why..."

A: "I like chicken better than beef. It tastes better."
B: "What are you stupid??? Beef tastes waaaay better than chicken. Here, let me tell you why..."

Pretty silly, right? Hell, I think that the game of chess pwns all other games out there and that's the way it is and that's the way it's going to stay. Closed minded? No, for different tastes, different flavors were made.

I say we all stop trying to "correct" each other on our personal "preferences" on fighting games. It leads nowhere and it solves nothing.

On topic: Nice thread, Llanfair, I think that you (along with the Fuudo interview thread) have helped revive the VF scene, thanks [IMG]

This thread sounds like the CEO telling employees there's life left in ENRON [IMG]

There's been a couple of posts from lurking french players (salut GFA & zakkapa [IMG] ) on VFdc though, things don't look that glum for our local scene.

VFDC is not very representative of the number of active french players, IMO.

We are not many here and we lurk cause we don't are too much good at English, me think.

Completely, 100% agree Hyun. Tekken is a bitch to learn when it comes to defense...all those damn moves, strings, there's just so much more to memorize in this game.

Tekken is hard as hell. If you can't defend then you will get raped, especially online. I usually come back to Virtua Fighter so I can feel good about myself.

My current win rate in Tekken 6 ranking matches are about 50% with Law and 60+% with Lili (an obvious newb choice to be honest). And I do not feel too bad about it. Sure I had higher win ratio in VF5 online, but I have to accept that I am a newb/noob in this game. Even if another newb beats me online with some scrubby tactics, I have to accept that I am a newb too.

I say that because I believe a lot of "I hate game XX and the game XX sucks" stems from certain entitlement mentality. Just because you are a good player in VF doesn't mean you are entitled to not suck at Tekken without efforts, and vice versa. And frankly, you will have to be a game genius, or a lifeless dork/addict, or both, if you are experts at multiple of these kinds of games that require tons of learning. So there is really nothing to be ashamed about sucking at one of these games or another.

However, many people have this mentality from FPS/2D Fighting games where being good at one game sort of meant you should be decent at another as well. A lot of 2D fighter players hate Tekken also because they can't fireball their way through the game and there are just so many things to learn. Many who are in this mental trap rationalize their own suckiness by saying "XX sucks."

In case of VF, in addition to those who claimed VF sucked, there were those who also rationalized by saying "VF is too complex and deep." Make no mistakes. . . these people were not praising VF at all, or even knew anything about VF. They were simply rationalizing themselves on why they don't play VF.

Tekken is easy as fuck to learn.. any game with a neutrual block should'nt be taken too seriously lol!!! Nah just kidding Tekken is a game of who can keep who in the air the longest. Its fun though. probably more balanced than VF believe it or not. I say this because no character is limited during certain situations because of the nature of the combat system IMHO. fuck chess Tekken is a Paintball. Even behind cover just keep shooting you'll eventually hit something.

I dunno, back TTT I made nationals and got top 3 in a tournament filled with the "Tekken Gods" from ATL when I didn't really play the game in Tekken 5 was it?

Then again, sadly besides VF2, TTT was my second most played game ever. I'm pretty used to all the strings and such so that part doesn't phase me. You know what game I find hard to play at a high level? SC2. No lie. *Ducks stones
