There's life left in VF5!

I agree with a lot of things said by SuperPanda and TWP. Contrary to what some elitists say, American gamers love challenges. They just don't love challenges without rewards along the way. But then whoTF does? RPG makers understand this. FPS makers understand this. Even Namco understands this. Let me discuss some things I believe Namco does with Tekken/SC to illustrate this (Know thy enemy, remember? Although I believe as of now Tekken is the least of VF's problems, as it may actually be the last hope to even keep 3D fighting genre just alive.)

    1. All levels of rewarding challenges from beginners to frame nerds:

Newbs can still pick Eddy and Baek and mash their way and win half the matches they have against other newbs. I don't know about Eddy but I think Baek mashers eventually evolve into "spammers" who learn to intentionally mix up high and mid strings. Once they learn to apply that to okizeme, they are on their way to intermediate competition.

Once you decide to become a frame nerd, you would never run out of things to learn in Tekken.

    2. "Intentional imbalances" to give chances to newbs/noobs.
This ties up with #1 but some characters are just intentionally easier to use than others. I noticed a certain pattern in Namco's introducing of new characters. If they introduce two new characters, one would be a top tier that's also very easy to use, whereas the other would be a little harder to use but rewarding for intermediate players. Sometimes they would be just downright broken (Feng in original TK5, Bob in the original TK6, just to be fixed in the later version.)

TKers themselves complain about this but I honestly believe it's intentional. Those chars give newbs a fighting chance against the vets who have been playing Tekken for ten years. Namco doesn't worry too much about the latter since they probably take it as a challenge anyway.

Many Tekkeners, and Namco themselves, understand that Tekken is STILL becoming a game that's not easy for beginners to pick up as there are so many characters and technicalities to learn. I fully believe that's why Namco makes the SC series to serve high-low concept mix--the game is an antithesis of Tekken. No complex juggles, wall combos, or complex oki-zeme to speak of. Frames are still useful but can be overruled by universal guard impact mind game. A perfect 3D fighter for people who hate "studying."

Nobody said making money making a video game is easy.

You know nothing about me. I'm not looking at the elitist train of thought, but you must have rose colored sunglasses if you think it's not there, cause every community has elitists.

I didn't make it sound like a chore to play. I made it sound like the game is best when you're playing someone in or around your skill level.

Why do you think the game has a ranking system? It's supposed to allow you to play people who are "supposed" to be at your same skill level, because of the same rank. The game rewards you as such too, cause that's where you get the most ranking points.

Of course it does, but as far as fighting games go, I don't think it fits as strongly for other games as it does VF. Just because the layers of game that's in it.

Someone that knows about the layers of gameplay from another game can come to VF and get to those layers and still be fresh at the game too. But for someone that's never explored a single fighting game to any point, it's best for them to play against someone that's on the same wavelength. The lack of players and variety hurts this.

In 17 pages only this man has made the most sense. I think it's time to lock this thread. Everyone needs to just shut the fuck up... fire up their Xbox360 and play more VF.

There is life after VF and as much as I wanted to deny that I now know it after reading the Fudo interview! It's call turn on your Xbox and send a friend invite to someone else who is online playing. And if they are playing something else then tell them to leave that bullshit game they are playing and come play some VF.

Really we need to stop talking about how to save it because it doesn't need saving. It needs fucking players! So shut the help up, accept the fact that VF5R is not coming (believe me I want it just as bad as anyone else) and make the most of VF5, Vanilla 5, Shit Fighter 5, Virtua Lag-Fighter 5, what ever the hell you have to call it, package it so your soul will accept it.

    Like the Xbox slogan...

    life is short... Play!

Wait... is that actually an xbox slogan? Because it's the most awesome reference to red rings and the limited life span of the xbox, ever.

Yes it is there slogan and can be found on one of these as well as a few other MS related things. I used to have one of these bracelets a few years ago and wore it everyday for like 1 year.

TBH, the reason Virtua Fighter has no players online, is cause its on the 360 whos online usership is dominated by FPSs. The game didn't have that many people on it when it 1st came out anyway. Secondly the netcode is awful, its laggy like Every fighter ever put online, yet still SF4, BB, KoF, SC, and T6 would rob even more players from 3 year old VF5. Not to mention MW2. Really tho for SF4 that sold 2 mill, there aren't many playing it online either (I play it on PS3). So for people to judge VF5 onlines player base and feel that its "dead", well yea, it is "dead" online, it was never alive. I was waiting for matches since its launch. Fighters are not meant to be played online and to feel like this is a dieing game is old news and common to any online games with dwindling populations, SOCOM, GOW2, Halo2, BB, even SF4 has have had a lack of players online. Capcom is smart enuff to update, revision and releases to keep intrest up.

Until SEGA, releases a new game weather it be VF5r or VF6, it will continue to die. Add the fact that SEGA crushes most of its franchises in to the ground anyway and you shouldn't be at all too surprised.

I guess my experience with VF when it was released is much different than yours. I had constant competition all day and even at night. I'd say VF has some of the best netcode I've seen.

Also despite the game supposedly being "unplayable" online I've played people offline and utilized the same strategies...and fuck ALL they worked.

    Go fig.

VF has no players online? yes it does, and you can also come here and ask around for games, like we always do.

VF didn't have many people on it? yes it did, I played a stupid amount of games when it first came out.

Netcode is awful? no it isnt.

SF, BB, KOF AND SC robbed us of players? Maybe you will find that many of us kept playing this game after checking out the competition.

You were waiting for matches since launch? who are you, whats your GT? Phallicfanboy? where have you been until now?

This is for all of you who have moved on from VF5:

"We must not cease from exploration and at the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we began and to know the place for the first time."
    T.S. Eliot

There's still much to learn and apply. For those of you who have leveled up, go back and watch VF fights that you have already seen (such as the replays one the VF5 disc) and you will see them differently and see new things that you didn't see before or at the very least be reminded of things that you meant to apply to your game but haven't.

its been awhile since we had full 8 players in our xbox live VF PARTY, probably took a hit from tekken, modern warfare but recently been noticing more players lately, friends list with more ppl playing VF. last couple of nights ive noticed full xbox live party chats all playing VF. Alot of ppl who left VF for awhile that went over to tekken, are now coming back to play vf. I too, was hooked on tekken for like 1-3 weeks.. then i came back to VF again. I tried to get some pretty good tekken players to come over to VF, and the 6 ppl i asked all said..
" the game is too hard.. and too much commitment "

That's to be expected. Remember what people on this site tend to pride themselves for, other people find it as a waste of time. If VF really isn't that hard to play, sorry damage is already done by the oommunities slogan and in my opinion the game design itself.
